Most of the Celestia data is stored, surprisingly uncompressed and unencrypted, in the program files, under folders depending on the data type. All of the textures, for example, are jpgs, gifs, pngs, or bmps under "Textures". I just open those with an image editor, create something I like, and save over.
@1RadicalOne Sorry radical can you show me how to install addons with texture files? On Celestia motherlode some files gots many levels like level1-2-3 qith textures that i don't know how to replace! The official guide on celestia's site can't help me, do you have something that show me the steps to follow for installation? thanks
There should be, in C:\Program Files\Celestia, a folder named "textures".
In that folder, there should be folders for textures of different resolutions. You need to change ALL of the relevant images in each folder to retexture the object. So, for example, to edit Iapetus, "iapetus.jpg" must be edited in all of its forms.
Hey i just found out how to do simple modding in Celestia like moving one station to another location and I'm have trouble with alt textures for worlds, I went to the site and use some other SSC's but i cant get it to work, I have the texture JEPG's and I rename them and no matter what as of yet I cant get it, you got any pointers for me? also i have a new respect for what you do my god its hard.

Addons? As in new bodies/models with their own textures? You need devoted .ssc files for that - they contain the actual data.
