  • I have the same guitar--Epiphone Les Paul Studio. I just read about these pickups and am thinking of getting them too. Do you think they're good? Are they much better than the stock pickups?

  • Hey Angus. They are quite good in the sense, you can have 3 pickups (humbucker, p-90, rail [single coil]) in one package but you'll need to invest in either switches, push-pull pots or the newer Seymour Duncan Triple Shots. They are definitely better than the stock pickups. My stock pickups sounded muddier with less clarity than the P-rails.

  • @BlackAngusYoung i got them on my epi lp

there great, much much better than the stock pickups

  • Great video, its pretty cool when you can changed pickups anytime you like when you do it yourself

  • Yeah, it's cool when it works out. But you'll need lots of patience cos it's not as straightforward as in the instructions.

  • It may not be the same chords but it sounds almost the same.

  • the second E you play in the verse should be a C#m

  • thanks erikfrusciante for the tip.

  • Fyi You're playing the chords in Under the Bridge wrong.

  • in most of the videos I hear the p-rails p-90's sound kind of bassy. I heard one guy use them with a slide for some hawaian/country sounds. very dan-electro P-90 kind of sound dont you think?

  • Yes, it doesn't have the heaviness of a humbucker but not as thin as the rail. It's quite good for blues, hawaiian and country. The beauty of the P-rails is that you have all these tones to play with.

  • could you use a normal mic so we can actually hear the quality of the pickups, this is a test run right?

  • Thanks for the advice, emilxt. Will work on that soon.

  • They suck in my opinion. I used to use seymour duncans back when I played a Fender strat, but they just couldn't handle heavy metal. Since then, Ive started using EMG pickups and I haven't been disappointed at all with them.

  • my 2 cents: the prails have a fatter tone than the JB, but equally tight. more muscular sounding, with chords and lead alike.

  • I have a solidbody neck-thru with JB bridge / SH-2 neck and I have to agree they are very clear musical pickups like the prs dragon II. you have to get your signature sound from the pedal or the amp. the pickups are clean. I wouldn't mind going to the Prails for more switching options. solid body's need all the help they can get to sound like the semi hollow les paul.

  • P-Rails decent? I went to your profile and saw that your were using a Fender G-DEC. Before you knock these pickups down, use a real tube amp.

  • Soundgardener75, don't get me wrong. I love these pickups and would not take it out for the world. No other pickup has the capability of having so many tones. What I meant by decent is comparing them to JBs cos those sound good in high gain. In any other situations, the P-rails beats them hands down.

  • What amp are you playing this through?

  • It sounds decent depending on which coil or humbucker you choose. You can hear the high and low notes. I still prefer the JBs though.
