  • INXS ROCKS!

  • Year I graduated high school,.the good ole days

  • May 1988... ✍✏...Finally! I did it! Graduation!

  • I remember I heard Rick Astley "Never gonna give you up" in the hospital after my mom gave birth to me.

  • @Jfoo111 lol

  • got my mind set on you was the number one song the day before i was born :) 1988 was one hell of a good year :)

  • Even George Harrison fell prey to the disease known as 80's music. The true beginning of the end for good music. Consider it the bad joke told by a drunk uncle at the funeral of a beloved family member.

The 90's were the long eulogies, and the 00's were the sudden rainstorm that sneaks up as the coffin is being lowered down into the ground.

This decade is the awful funeral home food that gets served after the wet, annoyed, and still bitterly sad mourners leave the cemetery.

  • fkcn hell thought i was getting Rick Rolled at 2:14

  • @sflachuck Pour some went to number 2. Love bites is def leppard only number 1 u.s. hit.

  • Alot of people don't know that it's spelled hutchence, but at least they are mentioning him and not fucking rick astley everytime.

  • Rick Astley actually looks respectable in that Together Forever video, instead of all creepy pedophile with the trenchcoat.

  • 1988 was not the year of Michael Jackson and George Michael, the whole 80s was their decade

  • 1988 and especially the start of the year continiued about a 2 2 1/2 year run of maybe the best music as a group of the 1980's. A lot of the early #1's in 1988 were released late in 1987 and continued a stunning run af great #1's. A lot of good music that never made #1 was also released in this era.

  • ha ha "Rickrolled in 1988"! In all seriousness, that was actually one of my favorite songs back then, and to see the rickroll phenomena (spelling) the past few years...is...weird, because this video and song actually holds alot of good memories for me, heh

  • I was there an adult in 1988 and I've never heard of any of these songs, and only 8 of the singers. I don't regret to have been unexposed to them. These folks are all outsiders -- outside of the Kingdom of Heaven. Though, those, of them, who still breathe have the opportunity to become insiders.

  • @acousticguitarfinger Lol. Are you being serious?

  • Wow, beautiful and gave me many great momeories of growing up.

  • i want to back in 80's

  • Best year of my young life back then...Being 18, free and unjaded? What a friggen awesome time it was~!!!! Thanks for this, and reminding me while it was a long while ago, life is short!

  • This is a great year for music!

  • My birth year!! Awesome music!! :)

  • @lenzino7383 i was born in 87 biaaatch lol

  • There are some awesome songs here. One point to note is the vocal quality. Most of these people are amazingly talented. What a privilege to hear them.

  • Grande 1988. Ano recheiado de grandes ídolos e músicas maravilhosas !! Saudadeeee !!

  • PANTERA!!!!!!!!!

  • Ahhh 13 and in 7th grade, where did childhood go?

  • So Emotional I was doing HVAC work for Kmart Corporation, Got My Mind Set on You I was running a smoke shop, Father Figure I was rear ended by a damned Chevy Corsica POS taxicab, Rick Astley I was living between New York, Baltimore, and DC, Get Out of My Dreams and Kokomo (is that Kenny G?) I was doing inventory type odd jobs for Safeway, Freebird I was running a hotel bar in Texas.

  • Is that Obama at 2:26?

  • @martin1b lmfao far from it that guy has a flat top dude lol

  • i was born that year :)

  • @MissTrinaBabe So was my first niece that almost wasn't born due to severe respiratory problems after birth .

  • 1988 was by far the worst year of my life. I was 42, and I was wiped out totally by betrayal and had to start all over again. Never have got it all back, but some things are much better now. Strange, some of the music that was so much part of my heartache that year is now, weirdly, extremely beautiful to me.

  • I was 17 during these great hits, and I remember every single word to every one of them, nice hearing them all again, but what was weird was listening to hits from the 70s when i was 17! i just love all music!

  • 88 is the year let us all heil hitler 88

  • Youth is a divine treasure, really.

  • the flame - one more try - sweet child of mine - love bites - got my mind set on you - dirty diana - need you tonight... where has all the good music gone? *sigh*

  • So many Brits in the US top 10...must be the massive cultural differences ;o)

  • Steve Winwood "ROLL WITH IT" Is the Shyt!!!!!!

  • Justin Bieber got NO SHIT on Ron Astley.

  • I don't like this video - I LOVE it. Please make more (1994 through 2000)

    .

  • I remember alot of these songs, but my memory must be failing me.... There are a few I thought were out before 88;

  • Ha.....I just realized George Micheal was dressed much like an Amish in the Monkey video.

  • For those of you born too late to remember this, so sorry . . .

    You missed out . . .

    Big.

    1988 Music > 2011 Music

  • LOVE your work "idolwatcher0" - takes me back the the best years of music :)

  • Comment removed

  • @electrictroy2010 I'm not sure why you consider anything a "flaw"... I used a common version of the song, which is played in the music video. Nowhere do I claim to use the single or radio edit version of every #1 hit song ;) Just enjoy the video for what it is, not what it isn't :)

  • @idolwatcher0 Sorry. I'm just not used to hearing the album versions. I grew-up with the radio edits, which are often drastically different from the album

    .

  • Man that tune by Expose...brings back soooo many memories...

  • where these not 1987?

  • 11th grade 1988 !! What the hell happened? yo, yo, yo 50 cent- beyonce- pink -garbage

  • I wish i was growing up during these times...

  • i didnt listen to many of these bands in the 80's cause 80% of them didnt play an instrument. mostly the african american bands. but no matter how good they sounded it wasn't fair to the artists who worked harder to learn to play rather than have a studio spit it out for them. it is really bad nowa days. every rap song is fake ass shit. and pop,r/b. come on where is the real music? im so sick of these fake ass bands putting out junk.

  • Que saudadeeeee !! Bon Jovi, Michael Jakcson, meu Deus, que saudadeeee !!

  • Red Red Wine was released in or around 1983 by UB40.

  • sweet child of mine, love bites, every ros has its thorn, dirty diana...Oooh yeah!) Nothing of modern music beats it. what happened to music?:(

  • todas las cancioness etannn chidass ..menos las de rick ashtleyy..no se que hace hayyy si nisiquiraaa cantaaa el morritoo..era mejor samanta fox pero pos lo prefirieron a el

  • ahhhhhhgggg!!! the girl at .31,,,, my mother did my hair like that still i was old enough to tell her to stop...shit it was 13 in 95 and it was seriously not cool anymore

  • Listen a brazilian portuguese version for Def Leppard - Love Bites : Yahoo - Mordida de Amor,

  • I f*ckng hate more than anything when kids comment on here saying "This is the year i was born"....who gives a f*ck!....enjoy these great hits this wonderful year produced!

  • @Bucs211 No no, don't hold back. Let us know how you really feel

  • @Bucs211 Well , i'm sorry , this is technically the year I was born. No one has to give a f****. But , I wouldn't care if you said ``This is the year I was born'' let's say in 1984. That may not be the year , but still...I don't see the harm. We just have pride the year we were born in , and i have to say being born in 88 was pretty cool. The music wasn't the best that year , but women wore their hair big back then , and that was hot!!!

  • This knocks me offa my feet!

  • This is AWESOME! Thank you for posting this!

  • father figure=epic

  • Thanks for this upload - brings back great memories

  • dont care if they are number ones or not...i love them all

  • That is not Rick Astley's real voice

  • 1988 was just a great year to be young, and alive!

  • Rick Roll me, Please!

  • Oh...and THANK YOU FOR ONE OF THE MOST WELL DONE collages of music that dwarfs the exploited kiddie cash machine music of today.

    Love,

    HowSatanWorks . com

  • Have you ever felt God created a song just for you - that you appreciated it more in a certain way that no other could? I feel that way about "Loving the Alien" by David Bowie and "Young Lions" by Adrian Belew - both about the message or scene at the foot of the cross.

    Love,

    TheAngel . com / TheDevil . com

  • Was Rick Astley really #1 or are we being Rick-Rolled?

  • @RichieD814 Rick really did have two #1 songs in 1988. This information is easily verifiable with some quick online research ;) I would never waste my time making a #1 songs montage that was inaccurate, or just to play some joke on people.

  • @RichieD814 Rick really did have two #1 songs in 1988. This information is easily verifiable with some quick online research ;) I would never waste my time making a #1 songs montage that was inaccurate, or just to play some joke on people.

  • @idolwatcher0 - I was just trying to make a joke. Wasn't accusing you of anything :-)

  • @RichieD814 Normally I just delete the "Rick-Rolled" comments that I see, because when you've seen the same comment posted 100+ times, it's just not funny anymore and there's no originality to it. And I think in an offhanded way, it insults the real purpose, and the work behind this video. Hope you understand. :)

  • @idolwatcher0 Taking your little vid a little too seriously dont ya think?

  • @tigran1960 nope :) When someone comments on a video just to be funny, then at the very least, they better make sure that they're comments are original and in good taste, because otherwise, what's the point? You'll just end up looking like 100+ other posters who made the same exact comment already. :P

  • @idolwatcher0 Rickrolling is an Internet meme involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The meme is a bait and switch; a person provides a hyperlink seemingly relevant to the topic at hand, but actually leads to Astley's video. Persons led to the music video are said to have been rickrolled. I think all those people weren't joking, just relieved that they weren't pranked when they found your video.

  • @RichieD814 What software do you use to make this vid

  • @jkadvices I didn't make the video. Idolwatcher0 did.

  • @idolwatcher0 thank you so much. for posting this.I was in school when i heard these songs. It sure bring a lot of memory. Those good old days!!!!

  • @idolwatcher0 i have never heard this girl band before called Expose..cant imagine how did i missed them.Wonderful song! Thanks

  • @RichieD814 He got the idea to write that song from a dog named Brian Griffin !! LMAO

  • @RichieD814 hahahahahahahahah yeah really

  • Tiffany was hotter than Debbie Gibson.

  • Married at the age of 15 to my soul mate....celebrating 23!!

  • the best song from this year didnt even make it

    Fast Car by Tracy Chapman

  • 21 years old that year and couldn't have been more depressed with that era of plastic synth fakery ozzing from the radio. That whole dammed decade made me wanna vomit. Sorry just my opinion.

  • dirty diana and monkey should not have been number one, they are the weakest songs of this year but they were superstars back then

  • Tiffany was HOOOOOT!!

  • mj own 1988 ....point blank period he was the breed in the 88 year ..mj all day.. bad era forever!!!

  • 1988 belong to both Michaels....George and Jackson!!

  • Say what you will about Rick Astley....the man had two #1 songs in 1988. Amazing!!

  • Anyone else think Rick Astley looks like Archie?

  • @Aramis2000 lol!

  • Im pretty sure the kids now are gonna say the same thing about this generrations music also 10-20 years from now. So its not like this era's music isnt soooo special. like you people say

  • I was born in 1988. It makes me happy that I can say these songs were #1 when I was fresh in the world. Its almost hard to believe...

  • Gotta love a video with a built in Rick-Roll !!! :-)

  • Music sure was good the year I was born

  • @krystlerita Agreed, we got a good year. :)

  • @krystlerita, indeed. I myself was also born in 1988, but, sad to say, the only two #1 songs from 1988 that I have on my iPod currently are "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Kokomo."

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhh the good old days i remember it like it was just yesterday

  • Omg, this SO takes me back! Thanks for putting this together!

  • I'm not gonna lie...when i saw that rick astley song I was starting to swear because I thought I was getting rick rolled lol.

  • I love the collection of #1 hits of respected years in general. I'm probably not the last person to ask this, but are you going to do the years up into the 90's and today? Thanks for all the videos you have on here!

  • Woot! The year I was born!

  • God almighty, what happened to music? Listen to how AMAZING these songs are. I'm so happy I grew up in the 1980's and remember all of these songs like it was yesterday. I got experience them first hand, and they bring back so many memories.

I remember when MTV was actaully cool and played MUSIC instead of shit like Jersey Shore and The Hills. I haven't watched MTV in almost 8 years

  • @GialloHorror Amen dude! XD Can you imagine if they made a highlight reel of the number 1 songs from last year? The sheer horror of it would make you go deaf! Maybe i'm just getting old but EVERY song on this complilation is legendary and it seems like almost every song these days is just forgettable.

  • @samprofit1 I agree man. These songs are almost 25 years old but they're unforgettable. Nobody will remember today's garbage 25 months from now. Just look at the LEGENDS on this list; Whitney Houston Michael Jackson George Harrison George Michael Steve Winwood Guns n' Roses Def Leppard Phil Collins Beach Boys Bon Jovi Chicago Poison All of these artists are hall of famers or will be HOF'ers one day Not to mention, Marx, Ocean, Estefan. You don't see talent like this anymore
  • @GialloHorror I AGREE WITH YOU. AND I BELIEVE WE ARE NOT BEING NOSTALGIC HERE. IT´S A FACT THAT 80S SONGS AND VIDS, AND 90S TOO, ARE ABSOLUTELY BETTER THAN THE CRAP THEY PLAY NOW, MTV?? IT´S A JOKE.

  • @GialloHorror Teen Mom also ruined MTV and wondering why Teenagers thesedays have NO BRAINS.

  • @GialloHorror I haven't watched MTV since the late 90's when reality TV shows were becoming more popular.

  • Richard Marx is one of the most underrated musicians ever. Not only did the dude have a string of HUGE hits in the late 80's and early 90's he's one hell of a songwriter as well.

    He is the man!

  • Dirty Diana FUCKING EPIC!!!

  • Did .......I just get........ Rick rolled? 2:16

  • now this is my year

  • If anyone would have told me that George Harrison, Michael Hutchinson and Michael Jackson would all be deceased i would have thought you were crazy......

  • It was nice watching this video, because I was born in 1988, it is spectacular how music and videos had changed :)

  • Awww.... the 80s when people over thirty were still cool enough to have hit music.

  • "NEED YOU TONIGHT"!!!. El mejor tema que escuche en mi vida!!!. en este compilado falta "NEW SENSATION" un mega-hit del 88. ¡¡¡ INXS, INXS, INXS!!!

  • Debbie Gibson or Tiffany........ I must admit that I had both posters, but Debbie was hotter!!

  • @nexdog Debbie was a better singer too, IMO

  • @nexdog debbie was hotter well shes pretty sexy now also if u see her now these days tiffany was pretty damn sexy tho with that red hair lookin like one of them sexy girls from the mall lol

  • You wouldn't have to know the song with the words with "comon ground" in it? it was released sometime in 1988.

  • @application6011 Are you talking about "Common Ground" by Rhythm Corps ? Look that up on YouTube and see if that's the song you're talking about :)

  • @idolwatcher0

I can't Thank You enough for your answer here, I have been searching for that song "Common Ground " for years, and have spent untold hours doing web searches for it. For some reason I thought it was " Hallowed" instead of " Common Ground ". You wouldn't happen to remember a song that Richard Burton did a spoken intro to would you ? I always thought it was "Worlds Away " by Planet P, but I can't find anything on it anywhere. Thank You once again, you made my day !!!

  • guns n roses sweet child of mind is oe of the best songs of all time, don't worry be happy is funny to me since its always on adverts

  • Steve Winwood "Roll with it" was number one on the day I was born...

  • Rick Astley had two number one songs that year!! You go, whiteboy with the black voice!!

  • DEF LEPPARD !!! DEF LEPPARD 4 EVER !!!!

    Greetings from Argentina !!

  • 88!

  • @19abaddon88 that was a good year!

  • In the 80s, Debbie Gibson was the shit.

  • @MisterQuizzz Debbie was hot, Whitney was HOT and Belinda was HOOOOTTT!! they were the 3 best female singers of the 80s in my opinion!

  • "Wild Wild West" was the number-one song the day I was born. I love that!

  • If Rick Astley gets Rick- Rolled, will the Universe collapse?

  • I was a freshmen in high school in 1987-1988 dam I sure do miss the 80's

  • the year of MJ and GM ;-)

  • Michael Jackson The best ever and forever!

  • Holy shit! 1988 got Ric Rolled not once but twice

  • @AmericanEvita

I know exactly how you feel.

  • 2:14 ......did i just get rick rolled?

  • @mikemcnellyf yes

  • These were the days when music had meaning, and they didn't have to sing about a woman's physique, nasty languages or money to get attention. Just perfect words on how to love or be loved

  • NICE MIX GOOD MEMORIES :)

  • Thanks for the memories from a seemingly simpler time...

  • Geez, two minutes and nineteen seconds in, I got Rick Rolled... and it wasn't even a joke.

  • Oh yeah! INXS! Got their greatest hits in the car. Too bad Michael Hutchenson died, they had more hits in them.

  • you know you could have started with rick astly and see how many people would be tricked

  • A very good year for me . Thanks for the memories.

  • Helllllooooo John Stamos!!!!

  • paula was 89

  • paula was 89

  • Seriously -- Faith was a great album. I was looking through some old CDs the other day... ran across The Joshua Tree. In the mood to hear "With Or Without You", "Where The Streets Have No Name", etc... I opened it up and on top of The Joshua Tree, lo and behold, was Faith.

That surely is one blessed CD case, with probably two of the top albums of the decade! What a pleasant surprise!

  • Even Gay Queers like Wham and George Michael had #1 hits Wow.

  • In George Michael's pre-bathroom-embarrassment years, he was pretty good. hehe

  • Hmmm...I didn't see POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME by Def Leppard. Wasn't that a number one song? It sure was all over the airwaves that year and played almost every hour! LOL

  • As Far as I know, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" peaked at number 2!! Excelent song though

  • @jdomrey You are right "Pour Some Sugar on Me" did reach #2 on the peak position but held that position for 1 week. I think this is where he/she got confused. I have the book right here in front of me (The Billboard Top 40 Hits 8th edition).

  • Unless you lived these days yourself, you just don't know how truly awesome the 80's really were. Everything was loud, from the clothes, hair, perfumes, makeup, music, etc...there will never ever be another decade as fun and wild as the 1980's. I must say, 1988 had some of the best music from that decade. Oh to be able to relive those days, if only just for a day.....
