Hi all. Watched all 5 of these time lapse videos. Very nice looking place. I've been thinking of coming to canada to do a working holiday and i was undecided as to where i would like to be based. I was actually tossing up between vancouver and calgary which is how i found these videos. Can anyone give me their opinion on which city an active outdoorsy young male would likely enjoy more? Only things i'm a little standoffish about are vancouvers heavy rainfall and calgarys winter cold
@pissedoffdude87 Hi! Were you planning on working here through the winter months? If you're here before the snow, the Calgary area has lots of hiking and scrambles near Banff and in the Kananskis areas as well as alpine climbing. In winter, there's lots of skiing - downhill, cross-country and back country.
The Vancouver region offers similar activities, too. One would probably have to drive further to go skiing in winter though to higher elevations.
@canadianentropy Thanks. Yeah the visa i would be given would allow me to work for 12 mths so i'd b there throughout the year, summer and winter. I have a couple of friends who have done the ski resort thing but to be honest it doesn't appeal to me. By the sound of it you snowboard by day (that part would be cool) and get drunk by night (I'm not much into the drinking thing). I was hoping to be based somewhere bigger where there is more things to do but is also close to those outdoor activities
@pissedoffdude87 If you were right in Calgary, the ski hills are only an 1 to 1.5 hours drive away (as are the hiking trails and scrambles in summer), and there is certainly more to do than just hit the bars. :)
@pissedoffdude87 Many Australians work on the ski hills in Banff and Lake Louise areas in winter. There may well be some agencies that could get you connected.
Wow! Fantastic time lapse series. Thank you for showing me a drive through a part of the world I would likely otherwise never see. The scenery is spectacular. It looks like a heavily traveled route, I wonder if the entire length from BC to Calgary will eventually be a 4-lane divided highway (twinned)? Thanks again. (Directed here by FreewayBrent.)
@PeteTheChopp Thanks! It looks heavily travelled at that time of year - a lot of tourist traffic (myself included). For comparison, you might like to check out my series "Calgary to Vancouver Island in Winter." The route is largely the same - until after Hope, BC.
Twinning the highway would be difficult in some stretches. The section that goes from Field to Golden has been improved greatly, but there's still the canyon to deal with - there's talk of a tunnel through the mountain.
Great! I've always wanted to see someone upload a decent time-lapse of BC Route 5, since I've never gotten a chance to drive it. I tried getting a good preview of it from Google Streetview, but it's just too time-consuming to keep clicking and scrolling up and down the map. I'm not sure what sections I previewed on Google Streetview, but BC 5 looks a lot more scenic, now that you've shown the entire stretch.
@FreewayBrent I intend to do more of Highway 5, Jasper to Kamloops, also a scenic stretch. As well I want to the Coquihalla portion again, but without the sun in the lens. :)
@canadianentropy: Cool stuff. I'm going to feature your TC-1 video (Part 1 of 5) on my Facebook fan page under the name, "FreewayBrent," since I've had quite a few requests to film that stretch. I just don't see myself getting out there for a long time.
hello , beautiful video! I'm planning to take on this drive from Cgy to Van. Island sometime this month, it's going to be my first time driving for this long. Do you have any tips for me? I'm going to assume gas is going to cost somewhere around $150 tops
@dsyk1 Thanks! Have enough gas to get past Golden and fill up in Revelstoke. Fuel in Golden is the most expensive until Vancouver. The price of gas in Hope is quite reasonable, too.
Apart from that, take good tunes - they help a lot to take one's mind off the slow bit around Salmon Arm.
I guess I didnt see these. Long ride! Yeah though some good footage of Vancouver would have been cool. But i seen some during the Olympics. You have any of it at all? tks :)
@landtoseasandiego I do have a little footage of Vancouver, but that wasn't really the purpose of the trip that I was on. I was headed to Vancouver Island for a hiking trip. And then there's the fact that since we did the drive from Calgary to Vancouver in a single day didn't leave a lot of energy for local site seeing the following day. There are many good videos of Vancouver made by people who live there, and know their city much better than I. :)
@canadianentropy Thnks, Yeah seen some. I know what ya mean. The time i spent in Oregon, there was so much more to see than I did! Never did go on the camping trip was supposed to go on either.
You did a great job/service to we viewers. Thank you. I still think the Banff/LK Louise/Jasper area is the best ride for its beauty in Canada? That and the area around the Coquihalla Highway.
@artsbest1 No, thank you! Comments like yours make me want to continue making more videos. :) Stayed tuned, I just returned home from a road trip to the coast and back. Naturally, I took plenty of footage. :)

@hellogoodbye753 Sorry about that! Obviously, I'm not a local. :)

@canadianentropy Haha no worries. The two cities get mixed up a lot, no biggie :) Lovely video though, very scenic.

How many hours not including break times did your drive take?
Thanks for posting these vids.

@noblejames111 Thanks for watching. The drive takes roughly ten hours - depending on traffic, construction etc, of course. :)
