If ANYone believes the catcher's got crossed up on a pitch, they need their head examined! He almost STANDS up in a high crouch. He'd NEVER do that unless he was EXPECTING a high one. His glove was UP; then as he hits his knees he drops it and balls up-obviously to ensure the ball hits the umpire. He made a conscious decision to endanger the umpire through an immature act of poor sportsmanship. A hard lesson to learn, but a necessary one. Tough luck, kid...but you deserve the punishment.

shit happens. as a catcher, its possible to lose sight of the ball and think it is down low. besides, that looked like a strike to me. saw a major league ump get hit in the package after catcher called a pitch-out and pitcher threw a fastball down the middle...
my dad's friend is an umpire and my dad heard about it...the kid was from toledo, ohio he had a full ride scholorship. His coach told him to throw a fastball low. the catcher told him to throw a curveball high. the pitcher threw a curveball and lost his scholorship.. aparently the catcher and pitcher thought the game was being umped unfairly...
This kid is definitely from Stephens County in Georgia, not Ohio. The coach ordered the throw at the ump, and yes it is true that the pitcher lost his scholarship. However, thats not even important because the pitcher will go in the top 20 picks in next years draft, jsut like his older brother did this past year. Team that was losing that badly, I don't think there is anyway that the pitcher has enough control to hit the ump in the facemask like that.
Catcher could of called a split finger or a curve and the pitcher missed the call.
