  • Anyone else think this was a 'how to draw America' - as in America from Hetalia? -.-

  • please to get so defensive. im black and i enjoyed this video bcuz it did help in some ways. he's not trying to be racist, that is way he says things lyk "commonly," "generally speaking," and "tends to be" because he's just giving viewers a general sketch to use as a reference. its a very good video

  • I don't know how to draw black people ( male) hair

  • Ty so much for this video, I'm a black artist and I mostly have a problem with shading when I'm drawing anyone of color it's hard to contrast sometimes.

  • Hmm simple enough

  • who I just wanted to know how to draw a picture its really not that big of a deal its almost 2012 geez!

  • i didn't know a lot of thsi about black features...and i thought i was an expert LOL

  • @tyren14

He is saying that becos it ain't always the case NOT becos he tryin to be PC. E.g East Africans tend to have thin noses.

  • he did a great job

  • U know how to draw anythink I could draw to but not anythink yet.

  • Not bad

  • This helps alot

  • anyway you can draw this in a 3/4 view.. Great tutorial. Id like to get into drawing more black manga characters and i need some help.

  • a random black girl here:

yay for this video. when I get down to actually being 100% serious about this whole improving thing So I can draw my awesome character who's been in my head for like 4 years constantly changing (since, what 2007- it's insane I haven't drawn him yet).

  • i hate coons

  • nailed it

  • Haters gonna hate

  • A. WYATT MANN DRAWS COLOURED FOLKS BEST!!!

  • @GreenPoisionArt jealous hater detection:hater DETECTED!!

  • Just pictures a gorilla

  • Thank you very much for making this video. I stare at myself and other people and try to draw them, but it never works out. I usually just stick to drawing lighter skinned people, which I have been called racist for (Which doesn't make since because I am dark skinned.) This really helped.

  • why say black.yellow white. why not say African/african amrican and asian i dont now what to call the white since they just every where....^^

  • I am "African-American" and I prefer to be called BLACK. I just feel like I haven't been to Africa, I was born in America, I feel I have no ties to Africa, except the fact that 100s of years ago slaves were brought here from Africa. I told another black friend that I felt I had no ties with Africa and he flipped but I don't.

  • Lol he should work for the police

  • There are anatomical differences. They have to be represented acurately to capture the essence of every human. I think it is great that he is giving us the basics. It will make our renderings more life-like and give our art strong foundations in capturing likenesses. BTW- if you are in a courtroom representing the participants, don't you think they will want accurate drawings? I know the media does.

  • guys i dont understand how refering to african people is offending. my father is african (angola) and i dont feel offended

  • I LOVE IT <3 <3

I love Africa and I love all :)

  • I LOVE IT <3 <3

  • I kind of feel offended by this though you're a good drawer...

  • 'Generally speaking' - LOLL love how PC he is being, don't want to offend the blacks. :D

  • at 3:25 he kind of looks like Ang from Avatar the Last Airbender =)

  • Black people aren't black, they're Brown, Dark brown, Mahogany etc,.

White people aren't White they're Peach, Preach-Yellow, Deep Peach, Papaya whip

I'm Black... Who care if people use the word black to describe people of African decent. In that case, White people should be offended for being call white. We're all mixed people anyway.

  • @shan2kJ

You, my friend, are awesome. I find it funny how white people are almost the only people who can be racist. You can have a 'latino channel', a 'black channel', anything else really, but can you imagine if somone poped up with a 'white channel' on TV? Mad mobs would break out!

If you can't call someone their own skin color, it's like ignoring the elephant in the room.

I, for one, won't treat you differently just because you look different than me.

  • @shan2kJ "White people should be offended for being call white" OH GOOD NEWS: THEY ARE NOT!!!! why people can't be proud of her race? IDIOT

  • @shan2kJ I so totally agree......could have said it better :o)

  • @shan2kJ ikr

  • @shan2kJ Go on YouTube and look up the( Video I'm not Black ) I am a descendant of Africa.

  • u can draw the best eyes i ever saw and really fast circles^^

  • Get off the race card people its 2011 !!!

  • @jgroves56 2012 now... but i get your point!

  • @friutbag (lol ur name is funny) maybe our eyes are just a little further apart (which would make sense with our noses) but this seems almost exaggerated...i know that some people who have decendants from Ghana tend to have this feature but I dont really see anyone (in my fam) whos eyes are like this

  • @fuitbag I'm black and I and many people in my family have great cat eyes that many women get plastic surgery to get now.

  • @artep2122 Odd i've never seen it before.

  • @fuitbag seen what? the natural cat eyes or the plastic surgery ones?

  • @artep2122 Natural cat eyes on a african,

  • @fuitbag I said I am black, not African (not that they cannot have it). Also, I am not suprised that you never saw it.

  • @artep2122 African american then

  • @artep2122 African american then either way your right, your beautiful.

  • @fuitbag and it's not because it's not a common feature on blacks' faces..... and I'm also not African American

  • @artep2122 then what race are you?

  • @fuitbag well this is how I see it, people may disagree. Some of my ancestors may have been from Africa (have no idea who they are), but I am not African, I'm Barbadian. Also, Barbados is a country by itself, so I am not American either, I'm a black person (race). African american to me is not a race. I do not identify in any way with Africa, I'm from Barbados.

  • @artep2122 what is your point then?you said black people do have cat eye's generally black people referred to as African or african american.what's the point in saying you have cat eyes,If your not african/african american..cause thats what this video is about. Not barbadians.

  • @fuitbag OK, so he said it is about African Americans. But what I am saying goes for them also, they are black people being called African American, when most of them are not originally from Africa or America. My whole point is, the race is black, he is drawing black people in this video, he should just say black.

  • @artep2122 alright luv u.

  • @fuitbag k, luv u too.

  • @artep2122 Actually you are wrong. All black people come from africa. Black is a derogitory term as yellow is to asians

  • @Darthslayer197 by that logic; white is a derogatory term because it encompasses the whole of Europeans, North Americans, and Oceanians...

  • @artep2122 Actually you are wrong. All black people come from Africa. Black is a derogatory term as yellow is to Asians.

  • @Darthslayer197 Are you black? As a black person I don't see it as a derogatory term. What would you call blacks then? Also, I may have been descended from Africans, but I am certainly not one now. In fact I can't even trace back my roots there. I identify with Barbados, not Africa. I know black people originated from Africa. And, I, as a black person COME from Barbados.

  • @artep2122 About the not being a black person part, I agree. But you are African. Barbadian people are African people who live in Barbados.

  • This helped alot! I just started to really draw and found that it is really a true talent of mine. I always knew I wasn't a horrible Artist but I've even shocked myself by what I have been drawning lately. I still need some practice but videos like these will get me alot further. so thankss:)

  • 1:58 looks like an alien lol

  • " HOW COME YOU JUST CANT SAY BLACK PEPOLE" "( HUH, HUH,!!!)

  • @PROVERBS241 wow. might be easier to read if you used full stops now and then....

  • oh!! yay, left handed just like me! it is said that lefties are more artistic...

  • Anyone know where I can learn to draw an african american female (better than I already do)...i mean this is kinda helpful--ish but this persons features seem too masculine (size and angles of features). And idk about the eyes being far apart it doesnt seem that common... Plus the features seem a bit flae

  • @amastara there eyes are too far apart as a natural proportion for their face, believe me it is very common in their race.

  • oo shut up proverbs241.this is a great video by a great artist

  • im african american and I think this video is cool.

  • I can't watch any of these videos cuz all of the words!!! can someone help me take them off please?

  • @sheyla2003 press the red "cc" button next to the 360p.

  • i there you migth be interestedin this competition:

"Best Eyes Drawing Competition" - Prizes - WACOM Bambom and portfolio sites

    see more at: nunobarao com

    Best regards.

  • @fuitbag Black people have eyes which are wider apart and have a cat look because of how their face is shaped.

  • @SuddenCatharsis theirs no point trying to prove you wrong because your as dumb as this artist when it come's to anatomy.

  • Comment removed

  • @SuddenCatharsis Asians eyes are to far apart as well it's got nothing to do with face shape.Look at Johnnny depp his eyes are slightly too close together and his face is very broad.

  • @fuitbag The reason why Johnny Depp's face is broad is because he is 1/4th native american, the same race as Asians.

  • @SuddenCatharsis but asians don't have broad face's.

  • @SuddenCatharsis but asians don't have broad face's.No Native americans desend from austronuals.

  • I'm african american and I like this video.

  • dude just say black, African American is unnecessary

  • @jagjagin

wrong. he got the term right. there are blacks around the world but not african

  • @Dramactica retard, I don't care, black is better than saying the stupid long African Americans, or just see people geez

  • White faces: thin straight nose, narrow skull, round eyes, thin lips

  • @SuddenCatharsis White's usually have Broader skulls. What the fuck are you on about?

  • @fuitbag Whites on AVERAGE have the narrowest skull in terms of breadth to length ratio. If you want to see an example search H.P. Lovecraft. Blacks have thicker skulls and more bone density.

  • @SuddenCatharsis Wrong A Neanderthal which is where all European white's desend from has the largest skull in all human anatomy. That is why all European caucasians have such heavy broad strong features. And Scotish people tend to look the most like neanderthals.

  • the lips need to be bigger and nose wider

  • Comment removed

  • this is so great and helpful america has so many people with this talent.

  • i have a drawing cmpetition tommorow and i want to see that how to draw a sketch of miley cyrus!!

  • This is very very true.

I don't understand why some think it's racist, though.

    It's just a drawing tutorial.. ;;

  • some great techniques.. and ideas... makes plenty of sense of things...

  • I really like it!!! Thanks for daring to do something different from the norm!

  • this guy is an awsome drawer and helped me realize my flaws within minutes. however to be safe he should have stayed away from this topic. cuz now he should do other races

  • good drawing although I don't look like that myself it is a good rendition of a western african

  • @questionmark14 ditto. My features are soft for a guy.

  • @terriblesocialskills

That comment explains your Youtube name.

  • @terriblesocialskills Are you serious? Every "how to draw" book uses "white features" as a default. So don't whine when you see one good tutorial dedicated to other ethnicity.

  • THESE ARE REALLY GOOD TIPS

IM MEXICAN I LOVE TO DRAW

AND I ALWAYS WHISHED TO DRAW A REALISTIC BLACK GIRL I HAD NEVER REALISED THAT THING ABOUT THE LIPS AND CAT EYES. AND YES, I SAID BLACK, HERE BLACKS ARE CALLED BLACKS, WHITES ARE CALLED WHITES, ETC.

BTW THE DRAWING LOOKS ALOT LIKE CHARLES BARCLEY o_o

  • make the lips a little bigger

  • I wish you will draw monsters , at least goblins...

  • European Features: Thin Nose, Blue/green eyes, Blonde/Brown hair, small lips and cheekbones

  • Great video on African features... kudos, from an African American. Get a life if teaching lessons on characteristics is implied to be racist. Art is art!

  • Kool!Kool!!!!!!!:D

  • Well... I wonder what a European featured person would look like. Cause I'm African-American and I don't look anything like his drawing but thats okay.

  • Hey camera man I have a great idea, why don't you keep the shot on just the drawing until the video is over or else we cant' see what he's doing, can you do that for me?

  • i am sorry, i just cannot help myself nor stop myself from commentimg off topic, but Jay is simply toooo cute :)

  • awesome! what for a pencil did you use! i love it!

  • left handed :)

  • cool cool nice

  • thanks for the awesome video dude. i learned alot

  • Excellent. And even more excellent is the lack of stereotype---a true artist to the core.

  • ...anthropologists can recognize people from every race or kind by just lookin' at their bones SO YEAH WE ARE ALL DIFERENT plus, the environnement makes a difference that's why over the generations african american or african that had been moved from their initial continent will have their features changed...

Nothing to do with racism !!!

    LIKE THESE VIDEOS (-:

  • @nhala1 im black i also agree completely.

  • awessssoooommmeee!!! uh... but one problem do you study different types of people and then draw them? if you do please tell me...PS. you make us sound like fiction creatures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but anyway great video!!!!!!!! :)

  • tables movin when he erases imagine if it breaks and fallss......... LMAO

  • good job mate great vid

  • well done sketch came out awesome as well... 'specially the lips

  • uh, yeah; duh, people, he said common African/American feature; that means get ready for some stereotyping. It's not like he blew it out of proportion and made that picture look like a monkey. I think we all (black people and every) can agree that certain races have prominent features, Middle East's hook nose, Caucasian's thin lips, Asian's reversible eyes; he's not making fun of, he's just drawing it. It's like saying he's sexist for drawing women with boobs-that's just typically what they have

  • @XRaykaX dont even bother man ppl in this country are soo dumb they think everybodys racist or sexist for stating their opinion (which most of the time is true)

  • @XRaykaX dude you are freaking AWESOME!

  • Comment removed

  • uh @ftwjessi UR A FAG!! seriously im half black nd i dont think nothin of it.... get a life

  • @funnyseekerkid10

Yeah but I still like the end result. It's pretty.

  • "generally speaking". Dude, I get it. You don't have to say that every 5 seconds.

  • great job

  • This is a really helpful tutorial. Thanks.

  • Must we complain about every GD Thang!! Shit!! To the artist I thought this was a great tut!

  • I thought this was very well done =)

Racist people need to chill, and all those people negative comments too.

  • Oh come on, people stop being so sensitive!

He's obiviously basing his drawing off of african-americans he's come in contact with, and most of us are from western africa.

  • Perhaps because Africans are actually comprised of 3 different "races", rather than just the American census' "black"?

  • that's what allot of them look like and the drawing was beautiful the most stereotypical one would be huge lips big nose and skin black as coal so your point is i know allot of black people that look like that choose to believe it or not alot black people actually do look like that but those features are only found in some parts of Africa are you afraid to admit that stereotypical means he choose something that wasn't true

  • its A SHAME EVEN AS AN ARTIST, ur means of self expression portray your stereotypical View of Africans of all places. IM PERSONALLY frm Africa AND NONE.. NONE of my features are like that, AFRICA is a Huge CONTINENTS wth an array of differnt features all DEPENDING on ur geographical location AND some times ur CULTURAL bckground. OBVIOUSLY somthng you do not knw much about because ur as simple minded as th drawing method OF CLASSIFYNG RACE BY featurs. ITS A SHAME MISGUIDED FRM UR UP bringin!!

  • he draws what he knows u cant be mad at him bcuz of that u think u just drew something stereotypical u think he didn't study some faces first?

  • im sorry to break it to you, but we live in a racists world.

  • @GrandHustle247 What are you getting so uptight about? Its the stereotypical features he has obviously referenced from African Americans around him. By saying his upbringing has anything to do with it, you are implying that he and his family are racist. If you dont like this video find another one that you do.

  • does it really matter????I mean reeaaalllllyyy EVRYONE HAS COMMON FEATURES!!!!! no one is angry when drawing a white or other ppl's faces but when it comes to african-american it's smehow racist.COME ON PPL!!!!!

  • love ur voice and way of speaking

  • STOP leaving the closeup of the drawing. I want to see ALL of what he is drawing.

  • how the fuck am i supposed to draw that!! does he have lessons for beginners?

  • Same here though im more of a manga drawer

  • Thanks I'm African-American and I don't see a lot of How to Books for African features or even heads. Theres a difference I know however I'm waiting for someone to put it out there. Thanks.

  • awesome

i love this guy! :D he's so nice n has a nice smile lol

    and yet...so talented XD

  • good

  • Waw...Amaizing!!

  • As a young black author and illustrator I find this very helpful. :) My main character that is basically African in my story keeps coming out looking more biracial, even with her dreadlocks. It's rather hard for be to draw an African face that is slightly turned to the side and still keep it looking...African.

  • stavro skliartho

  • why does everybody have to make everything racial this is clearly an instructional video just like he did in his asian and other vids n yea this is coming from a black guy. god its 2009, really??

  • well, most of the people just ignore fact, this is 21. century. They like to be mentally in stoneage, looking for those racial differences to make them feel "better". Just ignore those shit people and keep working! :-)

  • You guys need jesus ^_^

  • oh my goodeness, why is everyone fighting about racism? do it somewhere else it's just a video about how to draw African-American features. and all you people saying "omg that was really bad!" well he can probably draw better then you.

  • Comment removed

  • Everyone chill out the man is just drawing must everyone bring racism up every time someone out of race does/speaks about another...sheesh

calm down and stop being so sensitive!

    oh yeah cool drawing Jay.

  • So your saying a black person isnt a person

  • umm life originated in africa u cock mongeler

  • LOL your soo wrong noob The original people moved with the austrailian landmass when the world split up if u look at the map u can actually fit austraila into the contitnet of africa dip shit
