I watched this sequence frame by frame on a video (not the youtube one) and some of the images are what I can only describe as evil. Evil eyes, exploding heffalumps, weird unharmonic music, unharmonic singing, characters stomping on and squashing of heads... with crazy smiles on their faces. No wonder the innocent children are/were terrified of it. It's evil pretending to be 'just a nightmare', snaking its way into and defiling a beautiful children's literary classic.
