I don't think there's a dependency on overly liberal government handouts there. There definately is in Europe. And over the past 50 years it's become the real issue in the States IMHO. Historically when nations have overextended like this they've gone and stolen from another. Can't do that these days. So we'll see....

How can you support your argument about WWII? And wasn't the Allies who carpet bombed German cities into near exstinction in WWII.
