@SJPMlover4ever John had family in Scotland and had visited them since he was 9 and John would often "talk in a Scottish accent affectionately, when people lampoon a Scottish accent its taking the mick but with John it was done with a reservoir of affection.
I think this is the ONLY Beatles' song where all of them sing verses, they all have their lyrics thats just so fantastic!!! no other Beatles song has that (appart from a few like carry that weight where they all sing in unison, but not individually 1 after the other)
This was one of the annual Christmas messages that the Fab Four use to release annually - released to radio stations - In 1969 the Beatles gave a a compilation of their Xmas messages to their fan clubs as a gift - turned out to be a parting gift as they soon broke up-
Merry life!

can anybody explain the end with John's funky accent?
SJPMlover4ever 2 years ago
he says "And Christmas time is all,
and your bonnie clay us through.
Happy breastling to you people
all out best from me to you.
When the beasty brangom mutton
to the heather and little inn.
And be strattened oot in ma tether
to yer arms once back again.
Och away, ye bonnie.
He's doing a Scottish accent

Zicko1000 2 years ago
No, not at all. It was a hoax that started during the Abbey Road sessions. He is still alive and well.

Goes WAY back to the Hamburg days, find the photo of a mock funeral with Paul layed out on the bass amplifier

The song was recorded in Nov. '67 and the greetings at the end were recorded a year before.
