In terms of sales, yes COD and BF are way ahead, but entertainment factor is much more favored in TF2. Fact not Fiction, plus MW3 and BF3 are 60$ while TF2 is now free to play on steam, making it the better deal.

"arcade-ish" is a okay term to use because it's more about entertainment then competition. MW3 and BF3 are also on every console and it works, but TF2 abandoned the PS3 and Xbox 360 in order to focus only on the PC; resulting in degraded sales on both sides. so yes, MW3 and BF3 have more players playing than TF2 at any moment of the day.
