How I wish I knew of Reb Shlomo in those days! I was extremely fortunate to meet and enjoy and learn from Reb Shlomo in later years. He opened my spiritual life for me. He touched my soul in such a wonderful, and unforgetable way. May Hashem bless his soul forever and a day!
This is a famous video of Rav Shlomo Carlebach giving his Erev Yom Kippur concert to a small crowd of young men and women in Jerusalem's old city in 1971. In 1971, in the old city of Jerusalem, yoù couldn't evn have a chair or a seat, for members of the audience, who just had to sit on the ground. A very nostalgic great moment to enjoy, reflect, and be uplifted. - Enjoy! - Yaakov (Jay) Radin :-)
This appears to be in front of the erstwhile arch in front of the ruins of The Hurva Synagogue in the "Jewish Quarter" neighborhood in Jerusalem's Old City. Rav Shlomo, zz"l, would have cried songs of utter joy had he lived to see the opening of the rebuilt Hurva Synagogue.
I thought so too, but it is by a gate of the Old City, I would guess Zion Gate before they excavated the park and parking lot. Or, it is outside the gate, near the Pelzig home. That arch of the Hurva was only built in 1975.
