  • Love the shit out of the Smithereens, but at the risk of sounding catty....Pat, if you're going to wear a hat of a bicycle parts company, you might want to hop on a bike yourself every now and again.

  • Pat, come back to Chicago,IL in 2012!

  • Maybe my favorite band ever. And most definitely one of the most underrated bands ever. The hits on their videos are disappointing. Do they make bad songs? Everything they do is smart, engaging, and tight. I just don't understand how more people don't see this. Pat has a great voice and all the guys play there arses off! Anyhow, my fave Smiths song. Such great words and rhymes in this one. I think I am gonna see them in January in Philly. Party on Wayne....

  • Garage Band? Where is the garage they practice at? I'd pay to see them there. What is wrong with 50 yrs old. I am in my 60's and I'm still rocking with my Ric 370 12. Remember almost everything you hear today had it's roots in our day. It has just been modified somewhat. No originality anymore. More electronic and less musicianship. Enjoy these guys. THey are stripped down but they are good. Keep it up Smithereens!!

  • i love em! a garage band yes but the best garage band ever

  • Hey man, hold a seat for me till I get there!

  • one word, Awesome. thanks Smithereens!!!

  • 5 people ain't go no soul.

  • Fucking awesome band. Great grooves, great songs. Thanks Simthereens!

  • keep on keepen on, great song by a great band!

  • These guys are Rock gods.

  • MY GOD they sound good, as good as ever... Saw them in '90 or '91, one of the best shows I have ever seen, definitely in the top 10 along with The WHO, The Ramones, Deep Purple...

  • These guys don't play like worn-out megastars looking for a multi-million-dollar comeback. They sound like guys just playing in a rock band and working to sound their best.

  • The Court Tavern is the last great bastion of live rock music in Central New Jersey. The Smithereens started out here in the early 80's. Other legendary rock groups have played here or recruited talent for their own bands,ie Patti Smith. If you're ever in the New Brunswick NJ area,I highly suggest you take in a night at The Court

  • saw them at six flags in texas and they rock. i got a guitar pick.have loved them since blood and roses and i went around to record stores singing the song to find out who it was!!!! when was the last time you ever did that. it was humbling.

  • This band is still great. Most people don't realize the reason that Pat gained so much weight is kidney problems.

  • Holy crap! Pat has gotten fat!

  • @ALRULZ1965 I heard somewhere he was quite ill and the weight had alot to do with steroids.

  • I can't get over Jim's guitar playing. He's never used pedals... just straight cord to a Marshall amp, and his chords and riffs are so elementary. Yet, the sound is just so great!

  • these guys are TIGHT

  • Gotta love these guys!

  • Saw them at the Warfield in San Francisco several years ago, and you are right. They rock live. Miss the Rickenbackers though.

  • I thought this was going to be a sabbath cover?.Makes me wonder where they got the idea for this song title?

  • @dannyhood66 To get views

  • Amen Robilar !! THIS is rock n roll...fantastic !!

  • I don't like live cuts but this one is pretty damn good.

  • Thanks so much. I was hoping they would perfrom this summer at the Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk free Friday Night concerts on the beach as they did last year on July 4th, 2009. This is when I actually heard of them and expressed interest in this great band from N.J. They are an excellent band and very under-rated. I would like to catch their live performance if they ever come to the west coast again...not sure when and where ??

  • Great video.....at the Court Tavern too!

  • woohoo!

    Rockin' the Court!

  • @donkeybball - That's because too many current bands don't have the talent to reproduce live what they do in the studio. This is a live performance (and one of the reason I like the Smithereens, they can perform live what you hear on the disc).

  • sounds like a studio recording... hmmm

  • O.o I tought this music was of black sabbath

  • @manuelmba Yep me too....

  • The years have not been kind

  • Saw these guys at the Eagles Club in Milwaukee some time around 1990. Still the best show I've eve seen.

  • These guys rocked at the State theatre recently in Falls Church Va. What a show. Timeless group of guys. And the song Behind a Wall of sleep makes me feel like I was twenty again.

  • Really good, nice tele guitar but freakn I wanted the black sabbath song!

  • 5* and Fav Thankyou for posting Nice One!!!

  • I 'll tell you I saw them live in Ft Myers Florida Valentines day of last year. The agent that booked them also books me and I had access passes to the show. My wife and I sat in front and they opened up with this song. I perform it in my shows but when they opened with it my jaw dropped and I said to my wife "this is what it's SUPPOSED to sound like". I will also say Pat and Jim and the rest were some of the most down to earth people I have ever met in the music business. Incredible.

  • awesome set & i'm diggin the mural!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant ! I love this track having heard it all those years ago. The band I'm in always opens with this (we don't profess to do it as good as The Smithereens !) and it always goes down well although not many people have ever heard it before even though I recon its a bit of a timeless classic. Great !

  • I got lucky last year and saw these guys at Epcot. Plug in and play is how they do it and they do it well. They tore the place up! What a great band full of great musicians!

  • Great, great, great.

  • I was a big fan of them 20 years ago and one problem then was that they were not as good live. I must admit, though, that both times I saw them they may have been a bit nervous - once filming an MTV special and the other time I think they were opening for The Pretenders at Radio City Music Hall - so perhaps they were better in other situations. These songs still sound as great as they did 20 years ago!

  • I've seen these guys live, and outdoors at that, and they sounded as good, if not better than their records

  • Not too bad for 50 year old white dudes... And opposed to Billy Joel (etc) you can get tickets for under $200...

    Just sayin'

  • These guys are in there mid 50's, sound

    better than ever!!!!

  • @Robilar These misguided people are 50 years old..Those bar room blues bends with no supersonic effects..Back then you didn't need reverb cause the dope was so good

  • How in the heck did this band fail to maintain their popularity, if only for the fact that they sound as good live as they do in the studio, over 20 years after the song in question came out?

  • No kidding. This is a really tight performance.

  • The smithereens rock!!!!

  • Based on all of the live videos I've seen of this group, they may be the best band around ever to perform live. I love their live gigs in a small venue, as their sound is clean and tight. - smooth vocals with excellent guitar riffs. No distortion and never a dull moment watching them perform. One day, I'm gonna watch them live with a cold Guinness Dark in one hand, snapping my fingers on the other, and moving my legs to the beat of their

    unigue "wall of sound" !!

  • Don't wait too long. They are the "REAL DEAL".

  • @jadesystem Oh and you should! They are my favorite band to see live!

  • @jadesystem I've seen the Smithereens maybe 50 times in different venues, and they always have put on a great show! probably the best band I've ever seen live, and I've seen hundreds.if you get a chance see them live.

  • These guys are better than ever!

  • Classic song and a magnificent voice

  • My favorite Smithereen song EVER. This is a spectacular song!

  • My God..he got fat!!!

  • Happens to the best of us love!!!! Actually, the people who stay thin are actually the minority.

  • There's a difference between gaining 20 pounds over the course of 5-10 years and gaining 150..

  • Please reference my reply to stephanotogo, the other FAT HATER.

  • Pat has battled thyroid trouble for many years. His doctors put him on some sort of steroid to treat it and he had a massive weight gain, much like Jerry Lewis did.

  • Thyroid problems are very dangerous and I hope they get his medication right for him. This is one of my all time favorite bands and I've seen them live 3 times but not since about '94 I'm afraid. Everyone sings out loud at the shows and it's a frikkin blast to be close up front!

  • I have a great affection for their music. Their music, not their look. They could be wearing togas and sandles, who cares! The music is what mattered with these guys and that is what I loved about this band! Thanks guys, you Still have IT!!! Keep stirring it up!!! We will listen!!!

  • I started using insulin and gained 140 lbs in a year .... medical issues can cause massive weight gain sometimes when life saving treatment is applied. Fat, thin, black, white; WTF does any of that matter? The issue here is that The Smithereens ROCK and always have; This tune is one of my all time favorites and is destined to remembered forever in hearts of Rock & Roll lovers everywhere.

  • I got fat!!

  • I'm actually going to see Pat in a living room concert on Feb 5, 2009 at a friend's house. It should be awesome.

  • I can't wait to see you guys in January at BB Kings!

    Ay-yi-yi!!
