And what kid in the history of the universe knew the meaning of "family entertainement", it's kids who watch the cartoons, not the grown-ups.

@Serdikhan That's because Father of the Pride wasn't even a family show, it was aimed at adults. The reason it failed was because they would keep TRYING to make something not for kids family friendly. Also, just because something didn't last long doesn't mean it's actually good. Firefly was a very short lived, and popular sci-fi. FLCL was a very popular and well produced anime that had 6 episodes.

You sound like the kind of person who'd watch 20 seasons of Family Guy fart jokes.

@FiveofHearts1 Cartoons have and always will be targeting children, or both kids and teens, whatever, the fact that some cartoons get adults' attention is pure coincidence. It's adults showing too much interest in Animaniacs is why the show didn't live beyond what it did. And I don't watch animated sitcoms. I don't watch the Simpsons, don't watch Family Guy, don't watch American Dad, don't watch Futurama (whatever that show is about), the only thing I watch is Phineas and Ferb.

As far as I'm aware, Phineas & Ferb has a fairly substantial adult following (I'm in grad school and I watch it, and so do most of my friends :D), as do other "kids shows" like Avatar the Last Airbender. And those aren't at all hurt by their older audience. It was really short-sighted execs and advertisers that hurt Animaniacs.

There were quite a few characters in that show that shouldda been cut out. Rita and the Runt was dull as dishwater, but Bernadette Peters was a friend of Spielbergs, so she kept her job. I doubt it was because of overt sexuality. There was a homage to Goodfellas(Goodfeathers) which was funny, but never got the same criticism as Minerva.
