  • Where can you find them in Texas?

  • A hiking friend found some in Colorado Bend SP in March (when the white bass were running). Thanks for the very useful info!!

Cathy in Houston (where the morels do not grow...)

  • wow. how much cash can you get for morels? i have what looks like prime habitat on my land near mcgregor.

  • @gardnergrendal $30/lb to restaurants

  • was this shot with the zi8? with or without the lens mod?

  • @HangingwithJoe Yes, with lens mod. I rested the wide angle lens in the crotch of a tree branch, made a good tripod on the fly.

  • wow thanks man Ive always thought morels were rare here. I found 3 in georgetown a few years ago

  • Nice information, your Texas Hill Country techniques can be applied at least as far north as Kansas. The habitat becomes more variable in the midwest in terms of productive woodland ecologies, we look amongst upland elm and ash, river bottom habitat with willow, cottonwood, and sycamore; however, cedar/juniper patches are not uncommon and I have made similar observations about topography. Happy hunting, check out my mushroom videos (not just morels) if you are interested.

  • what is your location here in this video

  • @ac3jc Austin.

  • @OutOfaBlueSky will you be a little more precise? Im a chef in Austin and would like to know for the future when the season begins again.

  • @ac3jc generally, Morel hunters give up their sweet hunting spots on their deathbed to pass on. Ask me again in 40 years.

  • @ac3jc well i understand that. i just dont know where cedar grows.

  • @ac3jc North, West, South austin. Some found in east, but not much. Go to the parks west of austin and you should do well. Perdanales, I'm told is good.

  • @ac3jc For those in the Hill country, the season begins when the redbud trees begin to bud.

  • @OutOfaBlueSky Hi, so I think morel mushroom season is about to start or it already has started, we had a good rain yesterday, any good chances out there? I wanna get in on this but have never done it, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  • @ac3jc it should have already started, but the soil moisture is so low nothing is popping. I was out after the rain to check soils, no go. The rain that happened yesterday only dropped 0.15 inch at some parts in austin. Here only 0.05", not enough. this year may be a bust.

  • @ac3jc Im from alaska, we are gonna have a bumper crop, because half the state burned last year, always after a fire, boy do they come.(big one's at that)........ how many dried one's do you want, do to where Im going by river boat it takes days to get them in the mail, I have to mail them dried,.... also have a commercial fishing buddy, whom can furnish you with fresh "sockeye" from Sitka, AK ...you have heard of "copper river reds"? same fish. He also is a sea cucumber diver... want hooked up?

  • @mrsmelzbad Ive never been a fan of sockeye salmon but love sea cucumber, Im listening

  • @ac3jc Where do you cook in Austin? Do you use wild mushrooms? I bet you could find Chanterelles.

    Cathy in Houston

  • @cmurphy12002 yes I use a lot of wild mushrooms, I cook at La Sombra Bar & Grill, Id love to use local mushrooms if I knew how and where to find them

  • wow-12lbs thats awesome-I never find that many.go look at my bee removal video( part 2) and relocation video. let me know what you think.tell me if I did it right.thanks-Gordon
