Yao is better but Yi has a very good skill set he's got a lot of potential as while he's very tall at 7' he is quick, atheltic and a good shooter (including three pointers and free throws) is problem was that he was to thin and not strong enough to use his heigth while driving this also made him a defensive liability and his first two season due to his potential were disappointing. I agree with Makaveli. When i saw on ESPN that Yi was ahead of Chris Bosh in all-star votes, I was baffled. The All-Star game is a meeting for the best players in basketball. If Yi is in there, the spirit of the game is gone. Here's a guy who's barely averaging 10 points with players who average double-doubles and average over 20 points per game. Even if he is in the game, he won't get any playing time.

You are right it is a popularity contest but there has to be some sort of limit. Yes Carter, T-Mac, Shaq and others have gotten to start above others who are having a better year, but at sometime there were great and were still one of the best in their conference. With Yi he is not even one of the best on his team. It will be an embarrassment, to the league, the all-star game and especially for him, if he makes the all-star game. He shouldn't even make the rookies sophomore game.

By the way, Yi is fast and gets some good shots and 3 points as a 7-foot guy. He can play small forward sometimes as well, but of course most time power forward. He just need to be stronger and learn how to play tougher defence

This means Yi was able to do these dunks when he was before 18 years old when he was about the age of high school. That is damn amazing for a twelveth grader in high school, isn't it? And he improves a lot during the last 2 years, he is still young. When Dirk Nowitzki was in his rookie year, he didn't play better than Yi. So, Yi has a good future !
