Very difficult to judge- the vast majority of the shots that landed were not "effective punches": the lad in red hit mostly with the palm of the glove, which doesn't count, then sometimes the forearm, which should attract a warning. The lad in blue landed much more cleanly but a lot of the shots did definitely not have "sufficient force" for all of them to be scored(a few with the palm as well),although I would personally be inclined to give him the decision.Good effort by both though!Re-match?!
However it is the second time in three years that an Ox coach has been required to leave ringside for verbally assualting a ringside judge. Ox had a good season with matches, training camps with the Army champs and charity work. I applaud them, but a VM is one night, and it wasn't yours this year. It was your venue, refs and judges so hardly Cambridge's fault for your perceived injustice. Neutral venue, judges, refs is the way forward. Cam have done it in VM100 and 102 so why don't you?
@CUABC cos its all about the atmosphere. fuck doing it in london and trying to make it a corporate event selling tickets (or failing to) for over £100!
ur post makes it seem as if i said cam relied repeatedly on dodgy decisions. i dont care about VM 100, 101, 102... u just happened to win on dodgy decisions in VM 103, so i suggested u get to training for VM 104. as for the weighing in - we weighed in at the agreed time on the dot. u were absent. exactly what u did to us last year.
I get it - you feel hard done by. Fair enough. Lodge a complaint with Home Counties ABA about Oxford appointed refs and judges at your home venue. Maybe they didn't take kindly to being harangued by an irate Oxford coach with 3 bouts to go? Billingsgate had 1300 attending, C4 coverage, neutral Army/London officials and an OUABC alumni as OIC. He witnessed the weigh in whilst Oxford were late, then kept the scales open whilst they had a 2nd and 3rd attempt at making weight. Good luck for VM104.
@CUABC whats the point in complaining about a decision? its not going to get overturned - what are they gonna do? we'll show them the footage, at best, they'll say 'sorry' and thats that. pointless. plus with final yr exams in a week it'd be low down on the priorities list anyway.
im glad you managed to get neutral officials last year. wish we managed to this year - probably would've swung decisions like this in our favour! seriously tho, goes without saying that the officials are neutral!
As regards to this year. Yes, Cambridge turned up and rumour has it that Oxford claimed they had already weighed in and Cam were denied the opportunity to witness this (third time in the last 8 years Ox have done this). Cambridge won, largely on decisions but were away from home. It was Ox venue, judges and refs. Yet, to date, no complaint has been lodged with Home Counties ABA about scoring of match.
I don't think Cambridge have to rely on 'dodgy decisions'. VM100, won by Oxford 5-4, no complaints, and coincidently it was Walton that made the difference winning the 81 against a Russian boxer from Cambridge who had plenty of experience. VM101, 7-2 to Oxford, Scrappy match with 4 DQs and dubious decisions against the Cambridge lighter weights according to Steve Bunce of Boxing News. However, nobody moaned. VM103, Oxford demolished 9-0. 4 by KO, 4 by Unanimous and 1 by Majority.
You're defence is flawed my friend, the doctor on the night did the medicals, has he been on a judges course? Is he a judge? I doubt it,. Take the blinkers off and score this fight on punches landed in the scoring area, it is not a robbery, it is a close bout., live with it.
@subsub3 if anyone's defence is flawed, its chadwicks. i dont care if he's a judge, i was only referring to the dr in passing to point out that u shud get ur eyes checked. if he thought ed won then i would have disagreed with him too. judges make mistakes, and most ppl who saw that fight (including some tabs i know and apparently degale himself) thought ed lost. yes they arent judges, but as i said, judges get stuff wrong! eg. few deny that mayweather was unanimously robbed in his olympic semi.
@subsub3 u disagree with the judges' decision on the superfeatherweight bout, whereas i, along with what seems to be most people, disagree with the judges' decision on this fight. u commented on that fight saying the decision was wrong, whereas i have commented on this fight saying the decision was wrong. how is my defence in any way flawed?!... maybe you should stop making a tit of urself on youtube and stick to coaching ur boxers so that they dont have to rely on dodgy decisions next year?
The guy in red cleary won this bout. Punches landed with the knuckle part of the glove in the correct scoring area. Blue corner was slapping his punches and for the most part was landing his punches outside the scoring area, excellent observation by the 3 judges on 3 sides of the ring.
@subsub3 hmm. not sure what ur watching mate. u maybe shud get ur eyes checked? the doctor who did the medicals might be able to help you with that - he saw the robbery first hand. and unlike u and me he's unbiased. i suppose if chadwick won this then, according to u, i probably lost my bout against shanley?! ill happily admit the other middleweight fight was closer than this, and the superfeatherweight bout was quite close, but this fight wasnt even close!... just the decision was wrong.
