First off any firewire camera works with ichat, second you can use USB cam for ichat which lets you use any USB camera. Next the mighty mouse is hands down the worst mouse i have ever had in my home, i ripped it to shreds because of the frustration it caused me. Finally the hard drive is not 200 dollars, you can get a 120 gb hard drive for a grand total of 25 dollars

iMacs use IPS displays, look them up, they're not cheap and are the best kind of display panel you can actually buy for accurate colour work which is VERY important. Most displays are TN, their advantages are faster response time and they're much cheaper, but the colours blow, the viewing angles are poor and the contrast isn't as good. Fine for gaming and watching movies and crap but useless if you want to actually use your system for proper design work, which is where Macs are VERY popular.

AlienWare is owned by Dell, it is a sub-brand intended for enthusiasts. Dell still offers PCs with good performance at somewhat normal prices. They can charge more because there's little competition for gaming PCs.

All of the desktop PCs Apple offers are overpriced, no matter how you slice it. I also like how you've seem to become a very poor Linux user and talking down about other OSes. Even propietary OSes have their advantages, for Windows it's gaming, OS X it's video editing.

The Psystar comes with a 250 GB hard drive. why would you add a 120 GB hard drive? 250 GB is plenty of space. This is a well done comparison. However, the base Psystar computer is designed to compete with the Mac mini. When these are compared you end up with the Psystar having a better proc, faster RAM, a bigger and faster HDD (7200rpm vs 5400), and a much better video card. All this for over $300 less money than the Mac mini. Granted, the Mac mini is much smaller and if that is worth $300 than the Mac is the one for you. If not, I would look elsewhere.

The "apple" specific commands exist on regular keyboards. The Expose` key is still F3 on regular keyboards. Though, if you HAVE to just have a keyboard from Apple (pay them back for weak legalities much?) then I guess buy one or just take one from one of your own Macs.

As for having everything the iMac has, you are dead wrong. I bought a Psystar because it in turn cost less to use it + Final Cut Pro than to buy a Mac Pro with equal specs.

One problem with Mac hardware - you pay for crap you don't want or need. I would like an NVidia 8800, but on an iMac you have to get the 24" model with half of a terabyte HD and loads of crap that don't matter to me.

Here's a thought, Psystar charges around $500 for a decent mac that totally owns the Mac Mini. Most people already have a keyboard, mouse and display, the concept behind the Mac Mini. So what's the better deal here? And also in order to get decent graphics in a system you'd have to get the most highend iMac which doesn't even have that great graphics (8800 GS) or the Mac Pro which has an 8800 GT. You can get a Psystar system that has an 8800 GT for less than a thousand.
