Ron, I'm quite late in watching many videos for personal reasons, so sorry if I comment so late. You're without any doubt one of the most amazing original songwriters out on YouTube. This is another song that could without problems stay in the tracklist of a historical album of the 70's ... proudly. Thanks for sharing, a joy to listen to. Alec
Terrific. The thick harmonies really stand out. I can hear some soft chorus type "mmmm" or "ooh" type backing vocals in the second verse to build on it a little.
Something about the chorus makes me think of Led Zeppelin. I get the feeling that Page could spin a remarkable bluesy tale with this melody. Great piano touches, I learn more with every RHopen song I hear.
Popping in for another listen:) I agree with Anette. This sounds wonderful on the headphones! I always put my headphones on when I am listening to your tunes:) Always nice surprises for us. Bravo!! *****
I love hearing your songs Ron it's like an adventure to get into the words you write the stories and the beautiful music you come up with. That was beautifully written my buddy, love the easy listening pop feel you play a guitar so great and many instruments too. Your vocals are always so pleasant,I dig the harmonies also. You remind me so much of McCartney in his recent years like the last 20 years, same great style of songs and singing. I really enjoyed this my bro. :)))
Hi Ron, today I took time to listen to your song again, with headphones... and I heard a lot of details I didn´t hear before. What a great audio mix. Especially I like how the piano comes in. I am great to be able to listen to good YT songs again :-)
Very nice greetings from the hazy and cold Berlin,-
Wow! The instrumentation and especially the vocal harmony sound superfantastic. I finding quite a number of awesome folks around...I am convinced we are the lost generation.....
Maybe I'm more into songs that use metaphor and ambiguity to say something needs to change or the lyrics in this song are among your best. Great job on the instrumentation and back-up vocals, too.
@dholeton Hey Dave, thanks for the great comment, and I am very much a fan of metaphor and coming at things from different angles. I hope you are well, talk again soon. -Ron
Great song, arrangement, and performance. Lot of people don't realize our national anthem ends with a question about the free and the brave, not a statement.
Hey, Ron, great bluesy original. Love the line, 'he's/she's just a traveller.' All us have to travel down the road of unforsaken truth sometimes. Love your chord changes and playing too, just terrific. Going on my favorites list. :) Janet
Hi Ron, after my third attempt I could finally hear your new song (took me "only" about one hour to load it. I am so glad to see and hear you playing the xaphoon. What an interesting instrument! I share Martin´s opinion about your lyrics, but somehow your song reminds me on something. I will find it out. When the harmonies appear it is just magic. I love it very much.
@TanteA Hi Anette, I just watched you new vid Guten Morgen and it really lifted my spirits on this rather dreary evening :o) Thank you for your nice comment and I hope we can duet on the xaphoon sometime :o) -Ron
Hi Ron, i like all of the elements of your performance but i especially enjoy the vocal harmony when it kicks in. hope to hear more of that style some day. i like the "he.....she.....we" direction of the lyric too. very well conceived, written and performed, as always, be well, chuck.
"Forsaken Truth" is a very seriously theme. That the "land of the brave and the free" is not more the land under our feet - many people are thinking so in these days; not only in America. It's a great song Ron! I like also the musical arrangement very much especially the vocals and the Harmonica and Xaphoon voices. Greetings from Germany; Martin
@MartinRaetzJr Hello Martin, greetings to you from USA. Thanks for your very thoughtful words. I really appreciate them. I am looking forward to your next release. -Ron
Wow Ron! So great to hear a new original from you! This was wonderful!! The part that really hooked me was...on the road of forsaken truths...Excellent!!! Loved the cool xaphoon too! Another winner!! *****
@Cameragirl803 Hey DM Jane :o) Thanks for stopping by for this one and thanks for featuring it on your cameragirljane channel. That is a great honor for me. You know that TDM group is pretty dawg gone good, Iove their harmonies :o) Talk again Soon, -DM Ron
Wow, what a production, Ron - really something special & original! A very unique sound came out of it all - very cool to mix the recorder with harmonica, and some lovely piano touches! Wonderful harmonies - just such a pleasure to hear this. 8o)
Hi Ron, great new song. This is the first time you weren´t like Macca, but more American...and I like this, too. Harmony singing was great, good choice of instrumentation...you have style!
@FrankRMusic Hey Frank, Thanks for stopping by and the truth is I am a folkie at heart. I was a Pete Seeger, Kingston Trio kinda guy for a long time, so maybe this is coming out a bit more now. I appreciate the good words Frank and thanks for all your great music here on the Toob. -Ron
Dawg gone Ron, I like this even better than He, The Heir Apparent. This has a Great feel (as all your stuff does:) ..bit of a haunting mode. Love the arrangement & harmonies(you sure I didn't help out in there somewhere?)lol. The far away piano was a sweet touch. Once again you prove why so many admire you Ron..as only you can do with seemingly such ease.! BTW..I think you're GREAT.:)
Yea maybe I was channeling the great plowboyes on this one haha. I wanted to use the xaphoon on the VM song but it is in the wrong key for it... but no matter I have other weapons of mass destruction at my disposal :o) Talk again soon. DM Ron
Well worth it of course Ron. Nice to hear a smidgen of prog coming through in the harmonies (CS&N like as someone else mentioned) - seems when you're all prog I miss the folk element and when you're all roots I miss the experimental bits. This one has a nice balance of both in it.
@CurtisMateer Hey Pete, and yes I know what you mean, it is not easy to balance things on any particular song to create a consistent "style". I really don't even try anymore... I just try to make the song come across in a good way and if it falls into a particular category so be it. I think we are pretty similar in that regard, but for sure you have a much more consistent style, and a very good one at that. Talk again soon. -Ron
@rhopen Thanks Ron. I'm wondering what that consistent style might be though: country, folk, Beatlesque pop/rock or noudling around in an eastern state of mind :)
Ron, your original composition are all amazing! You got a huge talent my friend and this worthy to be heard...You are great! Thanks for sharing your music... allstars********* and goes to my fave for sure... ;-)
The master has schooled us on how to put together a song....wow...this is really something Ron...has a gorgeous CSN quality to it with fabulous harmonies...really great harmonies...the xaphoon and the harp are just perfect....and what is with these lyrics...pretty profound and thought provoking Ron....one of your best in my opinion.....into the faves....
@PatrickGMoran Hello Pat, much thanks to you for your very kind words. I appreciate them coming from you in particular since you are one of the best I know on YT, or anywhere else to be honest. Have a great evening.
Dear John, what a surprise again! Harmonies like Crosby, Stills, nash and Young. Loved the instruments, that Xaphoon is marvellous, I WANT one! Loved the lyrics, in every way a mister ROn H. song....in my list.
@rhopen aaah..i just noticed I called you John!!! oops, sorry for that my friend, sometimes my YT friends get mixed in one big family, but my comment was truly meant for you, RON !
This is a great song Ron those lyrics are amazing my friend great song great performance this one is going on my favourite list thank you from Phil .
This has a real warm sound – encompassing. The harmonies are fantastic. The recorder sounds Celtic, almost like an uilleann pipe and it gives it that spiritual quality – a great intro for a song about life – things that are real vs the superficial. I loved this song. It just has a wonderful unique sound. The closest thing it reminds me of is some of Harrison's spiritual-themed songs. Really beautiful Ron. It's a gorgeous weekend.
@karlmahlmann Hi Karl, I always appreciate your reviews since I know it comes from a great artist like yourself. Yea, I agree this does have a bit of Harrison drone to it. Now that you mention it, I now hear another influence... "Fancy" by The Kinks, which might have been the very first Indian Influenced pop song of the time.
The "recorder" has a tenor sax reed on the end of it and they are calling it a xaphoon. I like the sound of it. I wish I could play it better but maybe in time. -Ron
I think the day is coming when the brave and free will no longer tolerate the extreme having their way at the expense of humanity. Great thought provoking lyrics and music Ron. Love those harmonies.
@Johnfern99 Hello John, it is great to hear from you. Thanks to you and thanks for all the great songs and performances you have given us here on the Toob. -Ron
