Chris is inspiring like his lessons when he plays and explains the tonal range of these JB pickups he is doing a lesson as well. Good tone makes you happier and playing more!
Thanks to everyone who has listened to and seen this video. Chris did a great job for us. He is a pro and as a pro he quickly adapted to the different TONE, POWER, PUNCH, AND RESPONSE of JBE pickups to do this demo. I wish I could play as well as he does too!
@surfco How could you hate this guys playing ...he is a very smooth and tasteful player ....the only thing I hate is not being as good as he is ...and not having that guitar !!!!
i want to put a jb humbucker on my strat. what is the difference beetween humbucker and the two/tone humbucker? I mean differences in sound, also in split mode. is difficult for me to try these pickups and i need more opinion.
In its "HB" mode, our T/Ts will give you tight lows and mids, and pristine highs...never dark, dull or muddy.
In ialternate mode the pickups are electrically similar to our S-Deluxes. Tonally, the sound will drop slightly in volume and be similar to the sound of an S-Deluxe. In all cases the character of the guitar (wood, bridge, neck, nut and construction) will also shape tone. But, in general you should expect a high fidelity tone that will stand out in the mix in either mode.
Do a you tube search under AWESOME JOHN and you will here what is possible with these Great Joe barden pickup in heaveir situations using two humbuckers and a single in a hand made strat.
Metal players have told us that the Tone, Power, Punch, and Response of the HB and HB Two/Tone is great for metal becuase it is not only authoritative, but it also helps lift the guitar sound out from the bass and kick drum mix. Of course, how you EQ and your FX chain all play a role, but you wil find that the clarity and high fidelity signal provided by the HB or HB TT really helps get the sound and penetration you want.
do you think these humbuckers could handle metal? specifically palm muting? because i want an HB in my strat but i dont want to kill the single coil sound, right now i have a Seymour Duncan lik '59 and it just isnt powerful enough.
This may be a dumb question but do the HB and HBTT's come in neck and bridge versions? If not, which is best suited for bridge and which is best suited for neck ? (completely subjective I know. lol) I'm looking to outfit a MM Steve Morse guitar with all JBE pickups- 2 Humbuckers, a Gatton tele neck pu and an SDelux neck pu. Any suggestions?
The HB and HBTT do in fact come in neck and bridge versions.
Suggestion: make sure all the body routes will accomodate the pickups. All our pickups were designed to fit Tele, Strat, and Gibson-sized humbucker without mods ot the guitar. Ensure that the routing of the pickup cavities conform to these standards to avoid having to do any body routing.
The HB and HBTT fits all standard Gibson sized humbucker body routes, The mockingbird appears to use two full sized humbucker pickups (without covers). so the HB and HBTT should fit.
The S-Deluxes are Strat sized pups which fit any guitar routed to the Fender specs for Strat pickups.
You can install the HB TTs on any guitar that has a Gibson sized humbucker body rout. You will need a swtiching mechanism. We sugges a push/pull pot per HB TT to replace any volume or tone control so as avoid any unnecessary mods tothe guitar.
That's the magic....Serousily,....we never split the coils, we tap each of them at a predefined spot in the winding such that both coils are always operational and humcancelling. And, there is no switching noise either as you switch from mode to mode. cool, no ?
NO because I just bought these things from the Joe Barden era signed for 400 and I didnt buy the push pull pot. Damnit im too lazy. Well most likley ill never use the single coils with my HUGHES AND KETTNER DUOTONE. Jealous its okay.
Quite well. The punch and articulation of the pickup drive the distorition FX without muddiness. If you want a silkier sound, try turning down the tone control when using JBE pickups....no muddiness here. just articulate tonal response.
I'd like to have heard the bridge pickup one time with all other settings the same as for the neck & middle & positions 2 & 4 though, instead of tons more distortion every time you went to the bridge pickup alone, yet the volume remained the same. Now I'm wondering whether the bridge pickup has tons more output than the others (hence more distortion) & you had much compression after the distortion to keep levels more equal?
Good sounding pickups.
I really dislike the style of that bald guy.

Lawrence pickups work great too. I've had both and the Lawrence are just as good for half the price.

@gregorylee888 I'm not even half as good as this guy. I was wrong for saying the word HATE. What I meant was I don't like his playing.
He's a good guitar player, tho.

Do you make 'Zebra' style humbuckers?
i.e. Humbickers with a black cover over one coil and a whito one over the other?

Sorry but not as a standard product.

Anway, good tone demo, thanks for posting it.

Great pickups! I have these same pickups
in this exact configuration, and I love them.
They're a bit smoother, and more refined
than their traditionally designed counter-
parts. I own or have owned many brands
and models of blade style pickups, but
none that sound like these. They are very
versatile, working with many styles of
music. If I could only own one brand of
pickup, then it would be these.
