  • Finally a video that legitimately discredits vegans!

  • What was "horrible" about 2x4s?

  • sean lock sounds like the gecko for geico

  • im swedish, but i would never eat surstromming, it taste like rubber

  • "oh he's a naughty boy" xD fry is tooo funny.

  • Pickled herring... Not as bad as rotten poison shark thats been underground for months.

  • I'm ordering this. And my classroom will never be the same.

  • I dare say, rotten poisonous shark thats been buried in gravel for 3 months is worse then Surströmming

  • I remember learning about that canned herring from Jamie's Food Escapes! I love Jamie Oliver.

  • 2x4s are indeed horrible.

  • Pity they didn't open the can. I perfectly understand their reasons not to, but I would have loved to see their faces ^_^

  • I'd love to see Alan open that can of Surströmming, that sneaky smile would disappear from his face in milliseconds :)

  • What does the winner get?

  • Alan Davies kinda looks like Gary Moore. Perhaps he'd be better at guitar than this little game.

long live Gary Moore & Rory Gallagher!

  • ...now, the smell of surströmming isnt that bad. =/ dead people do smell worse.

  • Lol has anybody seen the Wreckless eating episode where they eat surstroming?

  • Chris Addison is ...quite cute.

  • I also had a dream where Kate Winslet turned me down!!

I think it's that aloof, superior kind of character she tends to play. I hope.

  • Was slightly dissapointed that Stephen didn't correct Sean's error when he proclaimed that snakes have no legs..

The Boa Constrictor for example, has some claw-like remnants of what was once hindlegs. They're unusable, and little more then a couple tufts sticking out, but considering this is QI then yes, snakes most definitely can have legs! :)

  • SO US FINNS WERE THE FIRST TO EAT THAT SHITFISH! I AM PROUD! 6-1!

  • Why does he have a can opener if he's not going to open the can?

  • That 2X4 was just too much for my stomach to handle.

  • It sounds so funny when he's saying surströmming without a tiny pause between sur and strömming:)

  • There is a Taiwanese delicacy called 'stinking tofu' smells like faeces but tastes real good.

  • my usual rule is, food that stink tastes wonderful.

  • Can I just be best friends with Alan?

  • I'd do three fifths of that panel.

  • Very strange laugh at 7:00...

  • I'm swedish and don't know why they call it a swedish delicasy because most of the people I know would never eat it! :P

  • @ellbennet I'm Swedish too but I really want to try it. The smell doesn't seem to affect me as I found out when I was attending a "nollning" at high school

  • @gurra9 Go ahead! Now I know one swedish person who would try it ;) Lycka till!

  • Surströmming is not that bad!

  • I'd like to try some surströmming.

  • Chris Addison was actually quite good on this episode. He said very little

  • 3:28.... well.. I wonder if anyone said.... I don't want to say I told you so...

  • "if you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible warning" Ah Mr Fry you're a genius. :)

  • so tomatoes aren't vegetarian food?

  • seans buzzer makes me flinch everytime

  • A couple of weeks ago I had a dream that I was trying to seduce George Clooney, but he wasn't buying any of it. It's probably because I don't find him attractive at all....that is probably my most confusing dream I've ever had.

  • "It's got a best before date" oh my god the irony XDDDDD

  • there's something similar to surströmming in norway called rakfisk which smells like death, apparently. the police was called to a house because somebody thought they smelled a body going bad and it was just somebody cooking xD

  • Comment removed

  • I live in Finland. There is an urban legend (perhaps factual) that some highschool prankster put an open tin of surströmming in the school ventilation duct. The school had to be evacuated and the smell lingered for a year.

  • "No legs on a snake, Stephen." Sean Lock makes me laugh more than any other pannelist on QI :)

  • I'm english living in Sweden (the north of) and we eat surströmming quite offten, wouldn't say the taste is to die for, although the smell is though. last time round we opend up the can in the forest near the house (much to the delite of the local fly population), some friends of ourse, three rows of houses away from us, rung up to see if we had surströmming. Naughty kids fill up water pistols

  • @steamBoff

Im baffled as to why you do it to yourself .. ?

and I mean everyone who eats it often.. all the comments are just confirming how horrible it is..

what's wrong with all the deliciouse good smelling non rotten food in the world ?

  • surströmming is mostly eaten in the north of sweden, My mother did the mistake of opening a can inside the house it took days to get rid of the smell.

  • Lol at 10:25 - 10:29, it would seem Chris had puked under the desk. x]

  • "That's how you get that lovely spidery-tomato flavor...."

I spat whiskey on the monitor.

  • That Chris guy should be on Qi more often

  • MY GOD! Alan is greying! =O

  • @Gubbywubby It happens to those of us who live long enough.

  • @ciaochowbella: It's just such a shock, because I always think of him as so young!

  • Ha! Boa constrictors have legs, or at least tiny leftover wannabe legs from their ancestors.

Yes, they're almost gone, no they can't be used for anything, but considering the nature of this show then I can safely say that snakes have legs!

  • If they cut out everytime Dara said 'Errrr' the show would only be about 5 minutes long. Chris Addison is awful...base humour

  • i never thought i'd like Chris Addison but he is awesome!

  • @bechaa01 I was the same. I wasn't keen before, but I thought he was great here. Alan doesn't seem as lively this series for some reason.

  • I'm reminded of Elaine Figgis, the character from The Catherine Tate Show,,, engaged to a death row inmate.

  • I first heard about Surströmming on a Japanese chat show, of all places... they had to open it in a special cubicle, but they did say it tasted good. So I wouldn't rule out eating it once.

  • @babyrubysoho I live in Japan and trust me that Japanese saying something tastes good or bad has no relevance in the real world.

  • @StickItUpYrBumGugle Me too! Yeah, I pretty much don't trust the word of anyone who says they like natto...

  • @babyrubysoho Ha ha ha, or uni. But I'll forgive them everything for tempura curry-pan!

  • Chicks Dig Jerks

    also Cloaca!!

  • I'm from Sweden, and I've never tried the stuff. I'm not really interested in doing so either.

  • I had a great dream that a centipede bit me (for some odd reason), and, no lies, Mr. Fry came and saved me from the nasty bugger and then gave me a bear hug. One of my best dreams ever.

  • @pockypurse im jealous of your dream

  • funnily enough, i first learned about Surströmming on Graham Norton. I think he got an audience member pretending to be Nigella to open it backstage.

Judging by his reaction, i NEVER want to be near an open can of that stuff

  • it is opened under water mainly for the reason that it explodes due to all the pressure from the gases. I tried to open one as a kid, not really knowing what it was. I thought it was the same as norwegian "sursild", or cured spicy herring which we eat all the time. My dad had been across the border in sweden and he bought a can (god knows why). When I applied the can opener, It shoot a jet of nastiness out of the hole. So i put it in the fridge, and it spoiled all the food in there.

  • @prophetchannel Well.. That's just put me off my proposed trip to sweden.

    Thanks mate.

  • @trisiti Yeah, come to Norway instead. Our alcohol might be more expensive, but at least you don't have to fear an explosion while opening a can.

  • adison is not funny. pease dont let me back on q/i

  • 10:9

I was wondering when Scandinavian cuisine would be mentioned in this episode.

  • ahha surSTRÖmming, or surSTROmming even. love when english people pronounces swedish words. like smoooorgoooaaardsbooooard :)

  • bahaha poor Chris, buzzer fail! Thanks for the upload :) muchly appreciated!

  • Stephen could do a whole programme on odd philias

  • what about chicken? Chickens eat insects and make a fantastic pizza topping.

  • Prob cause chicken isn't on all pizza. You hardly have a pizza without tomatos. @rnstearns

  • @rnstearns This is a good point. Pigs also eat insects too, and are on most pizzas. I'm sure there's even more. But i don't want to go and wiki every topping I can think of.

  • Does that little midget next to Sean actually think he's funny?

  • I would have opened the can.

  • no legs!

  • Should 've opened the bloody can

  • No-one has the XL version of this episode D:

  • @MrNickeh according to wikipedia there wasn't an XL version

  • @LMW87MMA qi xl was on bbc hd on sat?

  • @MrNickeh i watched on youtube last week

  • Great ending quote!

  • I live in Sweden and we eat Surströmming (Fermented haring) every midsummer and it´s absolutely delicious :)

  • @Marcus91Swe So do i and so do i

  • I'm surprised Stephen didn't mention hárkarl (Icelandic fermented shark meat), which is supposedly even nastier than surströmming.

  • They tell him not to open it, but give him a can opener.

  • I'm off to dream about Kate Winslet.

    Wish me luck!

  • @planstore what if she turns you down ?

  • @planstore You'll need it apparently.

  • Thanks so much @waynesayonara for putting this up, I don't know how I would manage with out my weekly dose of fun and facts! I can't watch it on tv because of work and because I'm not in Britain I can't watch it on BBC player! So thanks for QI!!

  • Yay Sweden has the most horrible thing, I am so proud. Surströmming is horrible, don't try it.

  • @OMacGyverO

Don't worry, I doubt many of us are dieing to try it now to be honest!

  • Good for you Dara, :)

Enjoy those points while you can. They may try to tkae them away from you in an upcoming episode,,,,

  • @sobefarrington your taking this a bit seriously are you not?

  • @sobefarrington Can you please tell me what Dara says after 7:30 ?? He askes the guy " were you disappointed?", and the guy says what?

  • @kaleameya "Nah, I didn't hit her with me best stuff".

  • @kaleameya "Nah, I didn't hit her with me best stuff".

  • @kaleameya

And the guy says "nah, I didn't hit her with my best stuff" :)

  • I cant wait for the XL version. I'm sure it's going to be a lot funnier.. Thanks waynesayonara. You make my day

  • Harpaxophilia must be very unsettling for a thief who just happens to rob someone who has it.

  • go dara

  • That picture of dara as the chef is so funny!

  • @fannumber666z: Yes, and it's so random too! X)

  • Alan's naughty expression! <3

  • @oshadak

I almost wish he did open it!!

  • Thanks for uploading
