-I've just developed a sleek-lined 2-place mid-wing electric-powered amphibian aircraft, which is most remarkable in that it eliminates weight and considerable cost of any hi-tech battery, yet which has nevertheless flown non-stop at low-altitude for several hours around the airport here. Unfortunately, i was getting a little dizzy after a while at this, and had to make an emergency landing when i strayed a bit to far afield, -causing the long electric-cord's plug to suddenly be yanked-out..!!!
Alright, I'll leave you Americans too discus you political economy amongst yourselves. Now...back on topic. How about a huge freight carrying aircraft with a giant wing area. So it's slow but energy efficient. The plane has relatively light battery to get up up to cruising altitude above cloud cover. Then (flying only in the daylight of course) the wings are covered with large solar panels. So its cost to do the Atlantic run or pacific run would be small.
I have a very good aviation Powerplant design idea: Spin a small, ultra efficient Turboprop Engine Electric Generator at constant RPM. Take care of your own battery and ultra capacitor recharging needs without all that HOBART ground servicing equipment. With luck, your Engine & Electric Motor Powered Plane'll be farm-fueled via biodiesel or ethanol. Ideally however, you'll be using 10,000 PSI Compressed, Metal-Hydride or Refrigerated Liquid Hydrogen for your fuel of choice. Mandarin: " Tai Ma "
Great, made in Chine because we dumb Americans just can't do it our selfs any more. Why am I not surprised? Damn rednecks and Texans rather blame everything on the Mexicans, or the blacks, or Obama. Rotten idiots.
@freddytuber that was an ignorant rant considering we dont care if the chinese make electric aircraft or washing machines. if you want to make them move to china.
@freddytuber When you say "we dumb Americans", you are only are referring to yourself. Just from the poorly written paragraph the entire world can see you’re the dumb one.
@freddytuber Don't just around complaining about it. The spend less time on youtube, and spend more time doning something useful. Also, if you heard the narrator, another American is also building an electric airplane. Don't just sit around with envy, participate in life!
last year at Oshkosh, the organizers were caught by surprise at the sheer numbers of people interested in Fishman's plane and the battery-powered Sonex. They weren't sure where Fishman's plane was, and people were running all over trying to find it. We saw it fly, though.
i want one, how much ?

Cool airplane
bikelambo123 2 weeks ago
like a giant rc plane... with all these new electric vehicles being used, will the power grid have to be upgraded to deal with all the extra load?
fairyheli2 3 months ago
@fairyheli2 not necessarily, chargers have been developed so you can keep your airplane powered without relying on the grid.

Why is electric taking so Long!

@dporrata Because liquid fuel has the highest energy density per weight.

$5 per charge flight time 1~3 hrs
against $5/gallon at 6~14 gph for a piston engine
i heard all the flight schools are interested in this
the savings operating cost is substantial

Amazingly quite, and lots of technical issues, I'm sure.
As he says it's the beginning and an impressive 25:1 glider ratio to boot. I have no doubt this project will see many spin offs in the years to come.

Electric is mutch more safer and more cool
TheBatSave 2 years ago 2
Should work fine as a powered glider. Push itself up and then cruise on air.

This is beyond awsome. Maybe 100 years or later, our future generations drive this vehicle to work everyday.

Should be very interesting to see the development of lighter and more powerful batteries, which seems to be the wave of the future.

Without MUCH better batteries, this will stay irrelevant beyond hobiests and the military..
