I know I sound pessimistic, and I really don't like criticizing information people put out there when it comes to trying to educate and help people, but so am I. If I ever get the chance to possibly help someone to not fall for the dangerous quackery out there.
If you wanted to recommend a book for people to read, that's cool if people are willing to read, but that book is just like all the others within that genre, it's mostly just crap and theories that are supported by fact.
@phorse hey there.. thanks for sharing your opinion. we wil have to agree to disagree here (which is okay :-). true that calcium can help us make MORE bone, but it ends up brittle and weak and we break them more often (see the double blind harvard nurses' study). the countries that drink dairy and take calcium have the weakest bones and the countries with the highest level of vegetable intake (no dairy, etc) have strong bones. i have researched a great deal and ALL...
@phorse ...pt 2... of the people's whose blood tests i have seen in the raw food movement (predominantly high fruit, high greens, low fat) have exceptional blood tests with no deficiencies and they do not supplement. so, not everyone needs to take a multi. you are welcome to do as you please, but we obviously have very different experiences, research, and takes on this issue. this channel is not a forum for supplements, so i am not open to arguing, etc. but i appreciate your opinion.
Overall, everybody should be taking at least a multivitamin supplement everyday. But, multivitamins along with a balanced diet, still isn't enough when it comes to certain crucial vitamins, and particularly minerals. It would be extremely difficult to get the efficient amount of calcium through diet and a multivitamin, and you really MUST supplement.
What is it with people and whole foods? The term "whole foods", is just another way of saying organic. The fact of the matter is, the organic food myth was busted awhile ago...
As far as supplements go, they are meant to be taken when you aren't getting a sufficient amount of whatever you're supplementing, if you're taking supplements just for the hell of it, you deserve whats coming to you... Ask a doctor what you should take and why before ever starting a supplement regimen.
People, people, people... Don't listen to quackery like this! This is total crap, and if you listen to people like this, you're going to end up with problems. I even saw a comment about Dr. Mercola on this thread... Dr. Mercola is a total quack.
Calcium, like anything else, can be bad for you in excess, but you NEED calcium to maintain strong bones. It's important to exercise with any diet, an active person puts strain on bones and if you get your calcium, your bones will become more dense.
@jackfire55 the only thing coral has that calicium mineral ore does not is all the trace minerals. the body will utilize some of the coral calcium but most of it will filter through the kidneys and create the same problems other "rocks" do. coral is not food. better off taking food/vegetable calium or just eat dark leafy greens and fresh stuff :) then you avoid all the problems. our bodies need much lower amts of calcium than we are told.
Thank you!! Change is happening for me! I am angry, hurt, and confused about all this new info I'm learning and the lies I've been told by the food industry and even well meaning people. I'm working on eating fruits and veggies to get my nutrients, but I am going to keep my Dr. I love her too much and she gets me! I'm wrestling with all of this and hoping to come at it from a place of taking care of myself and not fear. Fear is pretty present for me, currently. Thanks!! <3
i am so glad you are able to name and feel your fears. that is part of it. eventually you will come out of this phase and move into a place of EMPOWERMENT. you will be confident in your abiltiy to eat and heal intuitively and will not worry about things. in the meantime, try some journaling, and try to move out of some fear and into the feelings of when you feel very energized and healthy about your eating habits. keep researching and stay open always...thanks! :)
i love your humour :) wow. Yes. I have been feeling dairy is actually harmful to my bones lately. I ate 64 oz of yogurt the other day and it almost felt like my bones were deteriorating! This is great info! I worked at a health food supplement store and the nutritionist always recommended 1000mg-1200mg a day of calcium. Crazy. You don't need nearly as much. Just like you don't need as much protein as they say, or food in general! :) whole food nutrition yay
thanks for all the wonderful comments and feedback you leave. appreciate it! yes, that much yughurt is obviously way too much in one day. the kidneys and liver also cannot handle all of the toxic calicums that are in it. at least you knew intuitively that it did not feel right for your bones, etc... there is no way people should be chewing on rocks. there are great natural calciums in greens and sesame seeds,e tc.... :) whole food rules!
More GREAT information! I was always a bit suspect of calcium and often wondered how the health professionals "pushed" it to patients (especially women) even though there were diseases whose names were associated with calcium like calcification of......this or that. I might be misunderstanding the disease but it's what made me hold up a RED FLAG about calcium consumption from supplements *shrugs*
Your intuitive hunch about it was perfect...very dangerous stuff that lands people in the hospital and then lands them with a huge credit card bill for whatever insurance does not cover! ha! stick with your gutt! :)
I prefer to watch videos in one long part. If that's the reason you're splitting them up. Dr. Mercola and The PscyhicTruth channel both have vids around 10 minutes and people don't mind watching such a long video.
yeah, many of the videos run over 10 minutes and we like to throw out a few ideas at a time for people. we appreciate that you enjoy longer videos, too! i am sure we will have a couple of long ones here and there :) other times they are split up because the next idea comes as a result of the feedback on the first one... so they are made after loading the first. thanks!
Thank you for your educational offering, as always.I am really backed up on your videos but will comment as I watch - as always. I love them all. It's very late and I should get to bed but glad I could watch this piece of joy before bed... showing the rock was a very good idea. A doctor toldme to stock up on Tums, I told him HELL NO... colored rocks LOLOLOL with fake fruity flavors lol Love you dear, would much rather eat the plant that ate the rock then be the plant that is eating the rock, ah!
you are so welcome...glad you got to watch! we will load the other calcium video today, too. yeah, people with sever osteoporosis do not need rock pills. they need food. new chapter, garden of life ,e tc... are safe brands to trust if you need a bone building formula. they are not rocks. Flora also makes seperate cacium and magnesium liquid food formulas, magnesium being the best option. i think you will like the second video! thanks thanks! xoxoxoxox
Julie, this is really informative - very very very good job. Thank you so much. So I have severe osteoporosis and was told to take an excessive high number of calicum, mg, a day with Vitamin D. I did for awhile and then stopped because of reasons such as stated in this video. Thank you for the educational confirmation. I know I can increase my calcium intake when I can decrease my anorexia/bulimia intake. Ps.You are so right about magnesium! I look forward to Part 2 of this calcium series.
Good info. Yes, I think personally Big Pharma has done a splendid job brainwashing the public when it comes to supplements, calcium being the biggest seller, sort of like how D.W. is brainwashing raw foodists into thinking they NEED "raw" cacao and superfoods. Calcium loss is a factor of high-acid forming diet, high sugar diet (without the minerals found in whole foods), and a high protein diet. BTW, I thought both Mg and Ca were relaxing overall (digestive tract, muscle tissue, etc..)???
when they are balanced, cal and mag help the muscles relax. but calcium dominance leads to a constricting, tightening effect. in raw milk it is actually the magnesium that helps people sleep, not the calcium. if you were to give a person with restless leg syndrome (calcium dominance) some calcium, they would get worse. all of our bodies are starving for magnesium. we have been trained by big pharma to think the cal in milk is necessary for rest and bone health. yuck, eh?
did you mean glucosamine? or glucose, which is sugar? i think you mean glucosamine, which the body makes itself. i do not support using glucosamine except in rare cases, as it is generally animal sourced (there are a few mushroom and vegetarian sources being made). minerals are MUCH more important than taking glucosamine. MSM is wonderful for bone strength and esp for reducing inflammation, which helps keep bone growing and healthy. thanks! great msm sources are rain-fed plants
thanks for your reply. yes i did mean glucosamine. im using some now in liquid form to help with a knee injury but usually i don't take that. which minerals are would you suggest? I take MSM. I've heard that's good for many things for sure. rain-fed plants, hmm interesting. ill have to tell my friend who's a holistic cook about that one, she would eat that up. lol =)
MSM (sulfur) comes from rain. that is why rain-fed plants are your best source. pine needle tea is a great option. see our MSM video from a while ago for more info if you did not watch yet. :-) the best minerals are from FOOD, such as silica from horsetail herb and fresh nettles. trace minerals from seaweed are wonderful. dense leafy greens for other minerals are very important (cal, mag, phosphorus, etc...). yeah, liquid glucosamine can be ok for therapeutic use. hope that answers...
also...paradise herbs makes a great veggie glucosamine if you need something different. i believe all the liquids come from beetle/crab shells, etc... animal source is a little quicker in the body, so it depends on ethically where you stand with it all. just a heads up in case you are vegetarian. thanks for the questions. we appreciate when people interact with us. have a good week...
