  • Everybody told me you can't get far

On thirty-seven dollars and a jap guitar

Now I'm smokin' into Texas with the hammer down

And a rockin' little combo from the Guitar Town...

  • Steve earle is the greatest singer picker ever love ya Steve Earle

  • I love this promo. Steve looks so young too.

  • Really really dig this, takes me back. Won tix to Justin Townes Earle show here in Knoxville few mos back. Had Exit 0 on casette, lol. Take it easy...

  • does anybody know the "tab" for the main guitar lick in this song?....i've check several tab sites but they all seem wrong...

  • private message me if you're still looking for it and I'll work on it for ya...I'm playing it already...and I don't mind writing it out. (or typing it out)

  • he is one of he best anyone has heard and he made a name for himslef in counry music doing what he loves..

  • Hmmm, I just think Steve is the baddest pure musician ever.

  • i have so much respect for steve,he says it like it is. he is able to make music from the scrambled thoughts hopes and dreams that race through our heads. shine the light steve and never stop

  • Spooky to hear him talking here about finding balance, when he was just beginning to spin out of control and the worst years were coming. I love Earle, but he was certainly fooling himself at this point!

  • I don't think anyone plans on becoming a hopeless junkie when they start fooling around with that stuff. It overtakes you quickly. There is a video on YouTube of him in '91 doing Copperhead Road solo that is chilling, because of how strung out he looks. But he has always been one of the best songwriters and musicians around.

  • That is certainly true... In his case, though, he managed to maintain for a long time before it did overtake him. At this point he was already addicted to junk and had been off and on for almost 20 years.

And I agree, the 1991 videos are chilling.

  • been a fan since guitar town, still rockin with steve, damn he was young here

  • hammersley1967,

Religious hypocrisy is the kind of thing stever earle would write brilliantly about thanks for providing such a fine example you ignorant bastard

  • This was back before he got all political and went to shit.Thank God for Chris Knight.

  • visiting again, reading down through the comments. its great that people who don't agree with his politics can look past that to enjoy his music. i agree with him policitally, and musically i adore his writing, his voice, his everything and i have enjoyed having him in my life for over 20 years!

  • oh that voice gives me goosebumps still.

  • Hammersley1967: Are you remotely interested in music, more specifically Steve Earle's?Also, may I ask why you would make such an ugly comment? As I listen to this interview, I hear Steve being totally honest in what he's experienced through life & his music.

  • There are two paths we may take, one up and one down. We have been given free will to choose either path. We are captains of our souls to this extent. If we choose the wrong path, we go down, eventually to death. But if we choose the right path, we go up and up, until we come to eternal happiness. On the wrong path, we have no power for good because we do not choose to ask for it. But on the right path, we are on the side of good. We have all the power of God's spirit with us.

  • Do you hate Steve Earle? We were not in any way in a spiritual conversation & you said no appology for being ugly by the name calling to Steve Earle. I pray you make better choices as if you have the indwelling of the holy spirit!

  • Hammerslley1967: Initially, 5 months ago, you chose foul mouth name-calling. Why? What prompted it? A path to destruction I'd have to guess. Now, in your defensive (?) reply you talk about good path & bad path. If you claim to have taken the right path why the wrong turn?

  • [1] A reporter once asked Mother Teresa how she could bear to go on working at such a hopeless task day after day and year after year. The people she cared for were so wretchedly poor. Many of them, very sick. How could she continue with such dedication, knowing that all the poverty and sickness would still be there long after she had died? Didn't she realize she couldn't win? Her explanation was simple: Of course she knew the task was immense, but "finishing" wasn't her purpose.

  • [2] Mother Teresa had turned her life and will over to God, and her work was what she believed to be God's will for her. Because of this, she was devoted to the task itself, not to the completion of it. We too can learn to be receptive to a higher purpose. We can direct our energies into causes we believe in, even if we know the job will never be finished. We can visit with friends and family and not try to win a verbal exchange. We can accept the will of God and thereby find serenity.

  • One of life's paradoxes is that in order to change an unwanted situation, we must first accept it the way it is. If you wish to move forward in your life, first make peace with what you are presently experiencing.

Today, I will be receptive to Gods will.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference.

  • Praise God...You won't feel the need to 'win' another verbal exchange with anyone ever! :)

  • My wife is having a baby...

  • He's my favorite artist. By-farrrrrrr. :)

  • "It's just a phonograph record."

  • Authenticity, uncompromised courage, and just a shitload of talent.

    Not a bad combination, no?

  • gotta love "The Hawk" t-shirt...2 of a kind

  • I just love the man and everthing about him...so glad to have him living in NYC... seems that where he truly belongs. He seems really happy with Allison too & that's nice. Just saw him the other night at Town Hall. After all these years, he still gives me the goosebumps!

  • Steve knows about the highway.

"The Great Spirit has let me walk the good road, the road of happiness, and I've also walked the hard road, the road of difficulty. Where they cross, that place is holy."...Black Elk, Lakota

    Holy Man

  • here i am, native Texan born and bred, Minnesotan (not so much by my choice) for 20 years, middle aged housewife, mom of three, totally at the other end of the political scale of Steve's (totally....), but i have loved his music for years and years....well, years...he has 2 years on me and even though (forgive me Steve) he has changed "a little" from this incredibly gorgeous young man in this video, his music is still the best....

    keep rockin' Steve

  • I love his politics, his music, and his activism. I pretty much agree with just about all of his politics. Didn't know they made people like that in Texas.

  • Love his songwriting, LOVE his accent, LOVE LOVE THAT VOICE!

  • i love him and hes sooo gorgeous
