  • Can that loop be made at 1.5 or 2 meters in diameter? Would it make it a bit more "efficient" as a radiator? I want to make as big of a loop as I can, but 2 meters is about as large as I can go... I want to have it work on 30 meters. Thanks for your video and feedback... 73 de NW7US

  • @NW7US Hi Thomas, yep it is possible to make it larger but not very handy ... but the bigger the better.

My version works well on 30 although only 1 meter

    Let me know.

  • @PA3DMI Another question or two: is the loop a directional antenna? Must you aim the antenna to your target? Also, for HF, do you want the antenna loop up vertically, or laying down horizontally? 73 de NW7US

  • @NW7US Hi again,

You can aim the antenna when vertically, if you lay the loop down I don't see any change.

  • My faraday loops have always been 1/5 D to load 50 ohms. Also try bending the Faraday loop into a flat triangle, so the bottom 1/3 is flat to the main loop.

Output is peaked with a couple of turns of wire and an LED.

    Happy hunting :)

  • What type of variable capacitor are you using?

  • Hi Chris,

The capacitor is an old 500pF one, I got it for a fair al long time ago. It's about 12 cm long and the platespacing is 3 mm so I can use it with about 100Watt otherwise it's sparking a lot :-)

  • @PA3DMI Thanks for the info. I don't think I'll be operating anywhere near 100 watts, but at least now I know what to use. Variable capacitors are very tricky to understand. I've got the tubing and wire set up, last step is the capacitor. Thanks!

  • Nice work! Very effective and very simple. I can't wait to start constructing mine =)

  • Really nice job.

  • congrats for your loop ant.

I'm thinking to buy the MFJ and kick away the 25 meter random wire tuned by CG3000 auto-tuner on the base....

I wonder if the small 1 meter loop will be over the wire on 40meters....who knows...
