  • I remember when I heard this song in the DS version in the extra ending... that scene was heartbreaking </3

  • God dangit, somebody should make a ultimate extended version of this thing

  • Play A Sad One Joe....

  • I cried when I got to the scene with Robo being abused by his fellow robots.

    "You are defective."

    "You must be terminated."

  • I think one of the most powerful moments in which this song plays is the scene after defeating Black Tyrano, right before Lavos falls in 65 Mil. What Azala says is really kind of heartbreaking. Her race just lost the battle, and now they're getting wiped out. The best part of it was, right before the others leave, Azala says "The future... we have no future..." which, I guess, implies she knew what Lavos would eventually do- and that 'We' meant the beings of their planet, not just the Reptites.

  • @Galifay: There was some serious passion packed into each one of those SquareSoft RPG's that todays games just lack. I remember this scene youre talking about n man.... Pass me a vodka an juice, I think I gonna cry. Hahahaha!! Seriously, Chrono Trigger is a classic.

  • @KingPapi316 I agree and disagree. I am OLD. I understand what you are saying. However, I am not ignorant; today's RPG's do not lack. They are just modern now. The world is too sensitive. They (That is, the younger generation) are not willing to show the emotions that we used to have. Final Fantasy XIII does show emotions; however, it is isn't the most relatable for us OLD gamers.

  • @ScireSpire I'm pretty young and still TOTALLY agree. They never make games like this or like earthbound and mother 3.

  • Play a sad one Joe

  • All these years later, this is still an amazing song. I always fondly remember the SNES/GENESIS era. Whenever I hear this song and miss it greatly.

  • It's five o'clock in the morning...

  • Remember the part when he was laying there and the heroe's medal washed up next to him.

  • i consider myself a pretty tough guy, this song gets me choked up every time i hear it

  • Rest in peace Colin ;_____;

  • Best game ever in my life. This game make my childhood happy and wellness, I had leant so much in this game.Althrough SFC is very old fashion but this game will shining forever~

  • WHY did this game never come out in Europe... if I had been able to play it in my childhood my life would have been much better. together with final fantasy 7, i count this as one of the most life-influencing games ever.

  • Mitsuda is a genius. By just listening to this soundtrack he composed, I can already feel the whole emotion and feelings he put in, hoping to come up with masterpiece. And he did it.

  • The title looks like that red haired guy is gonna bun in fire :P

  • I cannot listen to this without welling up, it's one of the few pieces of music that can do that...

  • Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as Chrono Trigger. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!

  • @LegendCorridor Nice Obi-Wan from Star Wars reference. :) Chrono Trigger and Star Wars are both epic!! :D

  • This song shall be another played at my funeral... The last one... It seems to sum up the fact that it has ended... The life of one being... It explains how dire most situations can be, along with the emotion put into this song... I hardly cried in my life... But I am not ashamed to say, I ended up in tears anytime this music played... And I am hoping that it will not end up the same for those who attend my funeral when this music plays...

  • a sad song for a sad theme. hey dont worry yo. In times where you have to save the world sad stuff is bound to happen. Lost loved one, betrayal of best friends, the killing of loved ones. This stuff happens on our planet earth as well. Lets take a moment and respect Chrono Trigger and the developers. Peace my friends :)

  • I'm going to set off a few dork alarms by saying this, but when this song played after I killed Magus in the Dark Ages, it actually made me feel so bad that I reset the game and let him live.

  • this song just reminds me of how marle felt when crono died :(

  • Glenn and Cyrus......

  • @1RadicalDreamer Amen to that..

It's a beautiful, yet sad song.

  • My favorite bit: 0:45 - 0:57

  • Wait... Cyrus!!!!

  • "Play a sad one Joe."

  • Glenn........

  • Soulsoothe.

  • OKAY, I GET IT, IT'S GAME OVER. Stop rubbing it in, beutiful yet in that beauty mocking music!

  • or when marle and king got in a fight after beating yakra

  • It's beautiful! Indeed, this game is pretty emotive...

Is this theme played after Crono dies? I only watched a video and I don't remember it.

  • I got so into this game, I damn near cried because of these songs, characters and everything......DAMN wow. Is this song from when one of Luccas family members got her legs cut off?

  • @Magnus427 hey this game is dear to my heart. i credit games like this as ways of teaching me how life is. its been damn years since iv played it but it was awesome.

  • 5 People didn't know they could bring Chrono back...:(

  • One thing I never got about this game is if you are going to the past and future how is it that the currency you use in game the stuff you earn in the future and present time is somehow accepted even in the prehistoric time period. and as for the currency you earn in that era shouldn't it be worth more in the present and future? Other than that their game was flawless.

  • @AdathorRules The stone age people accept your money because it's shiny, and the future people accept it because they just don't care anymore.

  • @Gyanzakkun

That explains a lot. I imagine the people in the middle ages accept it because the game takes place in the year 1000 AD before people marked their currency date so I guess that would allow it to be accepted in any time period.

  • @AdathorRules

you never buy anything in the pre-historic time.. you battered with red stone

  • @AdathorRules the same red stone that they made the masamune with... It has the ability to combine weapons... everything in this game was connected

  • The most memorable moment in the game when this music plays, is when Cyrus tells Glenn that he want to become a knight. The way that scene was made, Cyrus standing there watching the sea and the beautifle horizon. It's just simply epic. Cyrus knows how to steel the show. Poor Cyrus, but it's a good thing his soul rest in peace knowing Glenn avenged him. Killing Magus was maybe good for revenge. But by having Magus on the good side, by sparing him on the North Cape is way better then killing him.

  • @19Imperial88 "I think I would really lose it if I had to hurt someone"

  • @freakynintendoguy00 Glenn siad that to Cyrus if i'm correct, when Cyrus was standing on that bridge. Those word of Glenn are really something. It want to let you know, Glenn strong, suberb with the sword, yet only fighting on the side of good, and protecting the ones who can not protect theirselves, like Glenn when he was a little boy

  • Azala: Aalya...just remember, that the reptites fought with honor and never gave up!!!

    Aalya: Aalya understand.

  • This game has arguably the best soundtrack of any game ever made. Out of all the games i have played, the only two that give it a run are Metroid Prime 2 and Halo:CE(Also known as Halo 1). And even those classics, in my opinion, come up on the short end of the stick in comparison to the Chrono Trigger Soundtrack. I only wish they had made sequels that actually lived up to the original...

  • ΣΥΜΦΩΝΩ ΚΑΙ ΕΠΑΥΞΑΝΩ!

  • @alien7793 arguably what? i'd say inarguably best ever. hmmmmmaybe FFIX has some pretty good stuff

  • I was in chronos village's tavern/inn and had the chick play music and this came up. Loved it ever since then

  • ''Game over'' Music?

  • This song starts playing in the woods, after you save lucca's mom from getting her leg chopped off.

  • @sciencemath777 When her legs get chopped off(if you fail) i get this really freaked out feeling. such an amazingly good story in the game.

  • @Hellman618

I could never figure out how to trigger the event you are describing but I do like the whole butterfly effect thing you do when you give expensive meat to a family in need in the past a once greedy father becomes a generous man in the future for it.

  • @sciencemath777 I didn't knew where was the switch... and then cried )'=

  • I know it's just a game but this song makes me think about Frog and then that makes me sad.......poor Frog.

  • THIS GAME SHOULD NEVER DIE. PERIOD. thanks for putting this up <3

  • Frog leans against the base of the mountain and flashes back to cyrus sticking up for him as a kid :.D

  • Wow I love this. Thank you for the memory cap being busted and taken back. WOW

  • Sounds good, brah.

  • Robot: Now we must eliminate the intruders.

Lucca:No... The intruders will eliminate YOU!

  • like, the best RPG ever, like the best game music ever...

  • man i love the whole track from Chrono trigger....it just makes me so happy...

  • "No! Stop! These are my brothers!"

  • Personally my favourite track from the game. I'm sure a couple of people would think otherwise, but the sad and calm vibe this song gives off is wonderful. I might even consider this to be one of my top 10 favourite songs of all time (although again, I'm sure others would think differently).

  • even though others may think differently, im sure they would understand why it's your favorite.

  • With all due respect, this song kicks a--, 100% agree with you. When I heard this and not a long time ago I said, "oh shoot, dang this is wow", the whole game to, but this song is a priceless gem.

  • CT have amazing music!!

  • The whole soundtrack is pure genius and is grossly underrated!

  • Everyone talks about underrated stuff. Chrono Trigger and it's music have sold a lot of copies.

  • this is a beautiful piece... Yasunori Mitsuda did an outstanding job with the music for this game!

  • This song sounds better on the SNES version. :|

IMO, the SNES version of Chrono Trigger is much better than the DS version because of sound.

  • :( this song is making me tear up

of course, playing this song while robo's getting jumped doesn't help either....

  • This song also played when robo got beat up...and i think that was one of the times that i keep thinking about whenever i hear this song..and thinkin bout robo getting beaten up in the beginning..almost brings tears to my eyes. My favourite game of all time, no question, and the best sad song in any game ever made, no question. =) -poor robo..i salute thee- One of the best rpgs ever made, no one can deny that...poor nu too...

  • My piano teacher gave me this song to learn!!! AHAH! much better than beethoven!

  • Crono...

  • I would swear that this was the music when the Nu was saying something about wanting to be turned off forever. I suppose it doesn't matter what the music was; that was the part of the game where, for me, it transcended game into art. That shit choked me UP.

    Nu!

  • Yeah it was played there and a few other times.

  • the nu was actually a prophet of time.

  • Best sad song on any game ever created PERIOD.

  • chrono trigger was one of very very few games that REALLY made you get into the characters, well besides from crono lol

anyways, nice tune i really love it

  • I don't have words to describe this...

  • didnt this song also play when chrono died

  • i feel like it was played in the future too

  • it played when the robots were beating on Robo and it played when Chrono came back to life.

  • right on

  • It played when you got the seed for Doan. Brought it up and then the song played.

  • The only thing I can think about during this song is baseball. Thanks, song title. >:/

  • This is saddest video game song ever made. It even surpasses Aeris' theme. The Day the World Revived is one of my favorites too. Yasunori Mitsuda is one of the greatest modern composers of all time!

  • Respect.

  • When this played after i killed Magus, i felt so bad, This song really is emotional, always makes you feel sad on the inside when you hear it.

  • I killed Magus before. I did NOT like it. It was like...the only time in MY LIFE I did it. I was so pissed. =/

  • Same, I hated it, the game felt empty without having Magus around.

  • I have this song and i love it it makes you think doesn't it.

  • Great song. There isn't a beautiful enough word to describe it. Especially if you've seen the 13th Ending from Chrono Trigger DS.

    Go watch it.

    Right now.

  • Beautiful theme... It can make you cry...

  • a mi no la cancion me suena de refecion y meditacion

  • Bueno, parece que la tonada nos trae diversos puntos de vista dependiendo de cómo asimilemos el momonto.

  • its music i can really reflect to

  • An awesome song warrants an awesome title, right? This definitely has one.

  • Check the guy on the harp in the response. Its beautiful. I love the version he does of this and ship of regret and sleep from xenogears

  • they might have wanted to have marle come under the influence of evil which is why she might look like that on the cover. or it could be a completely diff character, not sure.

  • yasunori mitsuda is amazing. You can tell the same mind behind Xenogears soundtrack. Check out June Mermaid, And Ship of Regret and Sleep if you like this, done by the same guy

  • You know Yasunori Mitsuda almost threatened to quit his job during the development of the game. About 10 tracks were lost and had to be rewritten from scratch due to a hard drive crash. Yasunori Mitsuda experienced some stomach ulcers which delayed the music for awhile. And at one point, he even defecated blood due to the stress he was going through while writing this music.

HE SHIT BLOOD FOR THIS GAME! BLOOD, SWEAT, TEARS, AND SHIT!

  • An Inspirational comment if I ever heard one. And Kudos on your screen name, not too many people remember that show

  • God, I can imagine how he feals in more ways than one. I agree with xcaluhbration, very inspirational. Kudos from me on you screen name as well. I think I still have those figures somewhere.

  • Thats insane! I had no idea, that just makes this song even more powerful now.

  • @mightymax1983 dam that is some deep shit forgive my grammer did he die?

  • @mightymax1983 If i Was Him Id Look At Chrono Trigger & Think It Was So Worth

  • @mightymax1983 That just led me to tears, adding the theme itself.

    Awesome...

  • @mightymax1983 WOW WHERE DID YOU READ THAT MEN O.O?

  • @mightymax1983 His dedication shows in the beautiful music he made in this game though =;_;=

  • @mightymax1983 WE LOVE HIM FOR THE ART HE'S CREATED OVER THE COURSE OF THE CLASSIC SQUARESOFT GAMES. <3

  • @mightymax1983 AMAN!

  • @mightymax1983 Maybe that's where the song Bloody Excrement in Final Fantasy Tactics came from? ha ha..

  • Yes its beautiful

  • really beautiful song

  • love this theme out of all the songs in the game. by the way im not sure if people notice this but the character marle on the box cover is using fire out of finger tips. and thats lucca's element in the game. marle's element is ice in the game. so why would she be using fire when her element is ice in the game or box?

  • no one has ever noticed this before

  • her ice goes into chrono's sword and turn into fire.

  • actually tons of people have

  • oh okay good point

  • so pro

  • I guess the box artists thought she was lucca.

  • lol I guess.

  • bayardojo its because when you use the tri attack with marle, frog and chrono, it does look like this, its been awhile since i played chrono trigger so i cant really tell you exactly what the combo moves does when you use their tri attack.

  • Always bugged me that there is a mistake on the box art. Marle doesn't use Fire, she uses Ice.

  • what happened was Marle was origanlly supposed to use fire, but they changed it after the art work on the box was done. so they weren't gonna change the case but leave it as it was.

  • it could also be a triple tech

  • No, she only uses ice. Never fire. fire wouldn't be coming out of her hands.

  • Actually, it is their Triple Tech, Arc Impulse. If you see they perform it in the game you will note Marle firing a beam flashing blue and yellow.

  • Really, which tech?

  • well, they made the right change though. Marle is a typical princess, pretty girl, used for healing a party type. Water or Ice makes sense for a healer.

Fire is offensive and it fits Lucca because Lucca is a scientist that can make bombs. In fact, one of Lucca's technique is throwing a napalm.

  • yeah.

  • this song was played thoughout the game a few times, but the time where the song when they had brought back chrono with Marle as party leader was the best and most emotional time to played it

  • This music is also played when frog remember when cyrus falls in the hands of magus...the most dramatic scene I have ever seen in a game...It also inspired me on the book I'm making...It's very sad and heroic...Frog is my favorite character...

  • this was probably the most emotional song in any game ive heard, because its so deep..its all about hope for a future

  • sad song

  • Yeah, Robo being beaten up was sad. This music also plays if you choose to kill Magus. =(

  • Aye. I dont know whever I will let magus survive when replaying on the ds this time. I was so compelled by Frog/Glen that I got rid of magus.

Chrono Trigger = inspiration. Cheers for these vids.

  • There's 14 different ways to play the game, and then another 14 in the new game + version. With the DS port there is a new dungeon and touch screen, right?

That means you've only got 27 more ways to play the game in a whole new way.

That also means I now need to buy a fucking DS.

  • Little Girl: What're those?

Doan: They just might be our future.

    - Little girl and Doan (talking about the seeds)

  • When i hear the song, i remember the scene when lavos crashes into the earth

    best game ever

  • Gloom... Despair... And agony on high...

    Deep dark depression, excessive misery...

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

  • Old man: You...you seem so differenent from us...

    Marlie: Thats becuase we're healthy.

    Old man: Heal-thy...I like that.

Little girl: What are those? *points to seeds*

    Old man: They...are our future.

  • The old man's name is Doan......

And those seeds won't be enough to solve starvation. It would take weeks, month before they can even grow a tomato plant or an apple tree. Plus, you would need the veg to germinate in order to use the seeds from the fruit to grow other plants... Trust me! I have a degree on Horticulture.....

But if there is nothing else... It's worth a try......

  • Kill joy...

  • Well I have a degree in AGRONOMY (which is much more badass than horticulture) and I say.....yeah...same thing. Future is screwed. Kids are gonna die....yeah...sad.

  • It's a symbol of hope, when there is nothing left to hope for.

  • its a game, so it wouldn't really matter.

  • whoa... best chrono trigger soundtrack ever!

  • When I hear this I can still see that scene where Cyrus was killed and Glenn turned into a Frog. That damn Magus! At least you do get to kill him with Frog if you choose.

  • That's what happened the first time I played Chrono Trigger xP.

  • but if you wont fight him, you´ll get him to your party

  • Actually I also thought about when the Robots gang up on Robo and how Lucca takes down the mangled body out of the trash compactor, drags it back to the factory and begins fixing it without a day of sleep.

  • that was heavy man when the other robots take him out, for some reason that stuck with me

  • Tell me about it ;.; Which is why, to me its one of the greatest RPG of all times. From the very beginning you connect with every characters because everyone of them have a story to tell. Another reason why the music and the storyline can never be apart from one another.

  • I hear that man my favorite video game and RPG. The music of the game is huge. The small character cast enables each of them to be fully developed

  • Yeah man, that was super intense when Prometheus beat Robo's ass in. I'm so freaking excited for the DS version, it's gonna be the greatest thing ever. I was hoping they would remake it for years. I never owned a playstation so that one didn't matter to me. But this will be wicked.

  • It f***ing better, or I'm gonna be so sad that I waited 13 long, dragging years for a let down

  • Funny, I chose not to kill him, because he seemed to badass.

Which is weird, because Frog wanted to desperately to kill him, it feels weird to say "no" now.

  • best song of the game

  • indeed

  • My favourite music track from the whole game. I have to say; the music was phenomenal for its time and fitted the game so well. It made Chrono Trigger even more memorable.
