I can see why this was a deleted scene. Because it didn't make sence. What's the point of a diversion by Maj. Heyward when the savages and French fur traders are watching the back of the fort, expecting a courier run, knowing the English are getting low on supplies. Pointless and irrelevant.
the hundred years war? you mean the war that took the lousy french 100 years to get the english off their land?!?! LOL thats not a victory that an embarrasment.
I've seen the movie and am very familiar with the actual historical events. I could be wrong, but I believe this was the scene regarding the siege of Fort William Henry. If it was, and as I have thought in the past, I wish they would have depicted the actual terrain around the fort a little better. I'm from that area and the lakefront isn't but 200 yards, if that, from the main gate. The book and movies have left out one of the biggest aspects of that time - the involvement of Rogers' Rangers.
At the start of the video what was that conversation when the guy was asking "Is that wheat?" Then the main character replies "Silk, another 40 yards" Whats that about? Is that suppose to be for wadding?
He asks "Tighter weave" and he answers "silk another 40 yards". The tighter weave of the silk would have trapped more of the expanding gases, thus projecting the ball further.
Im just glad to see this clip, you see hints of it in the trailers. And to our friend from over the pond, america is still run by the crown, hence why all of your presidents have kneel in front of our queen. Research it
This is in my DVD version as part of the standard film... as for our Presidents, I cannot find any example of an American president kneeling to a British monarch. Kneeling is a sign of submission, while bowing is simply a sign of respect, are you sure you have not jumbled them?
shame this scene didn't make the movie, it fills in an important gap - shows how Hawkeye was able to take advantage of the skirmish so his friend could get out and back to his family. Also shows the impressive organisational and combat skills of the British army of the day......
@lavaccastorpia I thought this was the scene where Hawkeye's friend in the militia gets out to go back to his family(as lots of families in his area have been killed) and Hawkeye gets arrested in next scene.....
@llmasterllp lol learn to spell idiot i'm british and i don't drink tea you moron and btw i bet your accent is retarded too it's just your opinion so stop showing yourself up and go back to primary school :) you also need to learn that Britain is full of accents NOT just one!!!
do not put your life in danger under a system that will use it as fodder for the green of their elite's mansions driveway. That's how much they will appreciate of your fallen casualty
You can't own 1/3 of the landmass in the world and never make any mistakes. We spread demoracy and liberal ideas and education to the pacific, America, India, Africa and the Middle East. OVerall the British empire was a force for development, progress and education. Im not saying that was the motive but its one of the big consequences.
One thing I like about this scene is that it schows Duncan Heyworth as heroic, as he was in the novel, not as a jerk as he was in most of this screenplay, his heroic sacrifice in the end notwithstanding.
i love this scene....grenadier company of the Royal Sussex, bearskin mitres, even the elusive handmortar wielded by a senior NCO 1:12 (probably inaccurate especially on campaign in America) and the fire discipline of the 35th - as good an example of an actual 18th century company in combat as I can think of....guiding by the right oblique, platoon fire etc.
Well, I finally found out what's up with the fort at 1:02! The second segment was originally the same as the first. But since the camera was shooting at ground level, the editors decided to use digital mastering to brighten up the sky a bit and make the soldiers stand out better. Unfortunately, the computer confused the fort's shadow with the black sky, and illuminated both. The result - a tiny, two dimensional fort! So it was the real fort accidentally "half-painted" over by the computer.
Even though it was cut out of the theater version they did use parts of it in the trailer. I have seen other movies do this where they use deleted scenes in their trailer that are not in the movie.
Great scene showing the Briish Highlanders kicking some serious Frog butt. I can see why the scene was cut because the Ft does not look very authentic
After watching this several times, I think it's clear that the first half of the attack was filmed at the constructed fort, while the second half was filmed somewhere else. Perhaps at a point where the fort wasn't completed yet? It actually looks like they may have blue-screened it up there, and perhaps left out a chunk of the fort in the process. I dunno, (it's not really a big deal - I'm just curious.).
They actually built a real fort in South Carolina for the Fort William Henry scenes. This portion was cut to help shorten the film. In the directors cut it is added back in.
I think they may have deleted this scene because, if you look at the second part where the British are firing, the "fort" in the background looks so obviously fake!
They deleted it because It conflicted with the film's erroneous suggestion that the British were weak, stupid and inferior in their capacity to wage war than the French, American militiamen or the Indians.
I may have to agree with that - the first time I saw this film was on TV in 1996, and this scene was actually included in the show. When I watched the home video, I was rather distressed they had cut this out. It was the only time when we could really see the British kicking butt. I thought, "So the British soldiers can't hit the broadside of a barn no matter how hard they try, while Native Americans can't miss, no matter how improbable the shot?" How did the British win the war, then?
@Fortaker good point! I think at this early stage in the war though, the Anglo-American forces were not as well prepared as the French and Indians. As the war progressed however, the Anglo-American forces became more organised, this combined with far superior Naval support and more numerous soldiers is what won the day. Plus, the bulk of the French forces were tied up fighting in Europe.
@londonmarc1 Yeah you mentioned that the Anglos had superior Naval support. I guess this was after the defeat of the Spanish Armada, when England became the best Navy.
This scene was added back into the film for the directors cut. It was taken out for time. It is suppose to represent when they did try to break out of the Fort Henry during its siege in real history.
