Well- he's young, he's got a lot to learn. Hopefully when the tour starts, we'll see that they've taught him not to run all over the stage if he doesn't have the lung capacity for it and that they've worked on his cadence and enunciation. All that said...I sure as hell couldn't do it any better, and if I was forced to listen to Journey without Perry- I'd pick Arnel over the other two hacks ANY DAY. Beyond that...I like his story. The drum rendition for this song is very arena and I love that. He covers Steve's original chops but , definately wrote his own name on them.
The breaks at the end are very clean , BIG arena , concert. I wasnt suprised at all to see pyros go off to his chops. One handed triplets off the bass drums cascaded us to the end of the falling wall of notes.
e-hem ,....can week talk about the video now?...No ONE seems to really get Steve down. Altho this was a *good * performance vocally , it is forced and strained at times. Steve=very smoothe.
I really liked the guitar break and the change in cadence thru that part.

I saw these guys in Nashville, in August '08 and they were all phenomenal. Besides Arnel, I think the one that impressed me the most was the drummer. He plays great, but can sing as good as Arnel at the same time!!!
Journey concert is only THE showcase of what this dude can deliver. Great vocal and concert quality. He is now in demand to front any band in America, being the money center of mass entertainment. Wowowee. (2 of 2).
What is more amazing is the fact that he's not primarily an English speaking vocalist. To evoke, emote, emulate, or whatever have you and still deliver the song to the desired high Journey quality is beyond imagination. He received 3 million out of 21.4 gross during the 2008 concert is not bad. In American standard, he could have gotten more. It is only the beginning because the first 1 of 2.
Jrny was already the name of the band before sperryshit joined in 1977. jon was the original writer and since sperryshit added some few lines he made himself a co-writer but will soon be forgotten as the original singer after his royalty rights expires in august 2008 and sperryshit will go back being a piece of shit again.LOL!

Something else of note, Drummer Steve Smith, though he had remarkable success with Journey during their heyday in the 70's and 80's. seemed out of place when Journey reunited in 1996. Deen Castronovo is a perfect fit with the current lineup.

Well, I didn't say he was a great artist. He's a singer hired to do a job, and at this point, that's all he's had the chance to do with Journey. If they go on to make albums, he could possibly help write some songs and demonstrate more of a style. It's not likely that the band will go on to top the charts again with new hit singles, but the band was looking for someone who could sound like Steve Perry, and that's what this kid is.
i still think it should have been more like the original it just takes away from the amazingness that this song was. i think it wasn't only the new vocalist who overdid it. i think even the lead guitarist overdid it with his shredding. it's one thing if it fits but it sure as heck was just mindless shredding and that's coming from someone who plays a crapload of sweeping and fast solos

Jrny was already the name of the band before sperryshit joined in 1977. jon was the original writer and since sperryshit added some few lines he made himself a co-writer but will soon be forgotten as the original singer after his royalty rights expires in august 2008 and sperryshit will go back being a piece of shit again.LOL!

Its a known fact the Steve Perry is the one great voice of Journey and Arnel himself knows that. No comparison really... Arnel is a good singer and a rightful replacement for the position SP left and Journey is back on its feet again because they found the right voice to continue the legacy sound. Journey rocks!!! Thanks Steve Perry for the legacy you created and thanks Arnel for continuing it and honoring the Journey music of yesterday and today...REVELATION is rocking to the max!!

Something else of note, Drummer Steve Smith, though he had remarkable success with Journey during their heyday in the 70's and 80's. seemed out of place when Journey reunited in 1996. Deen Castronovo is a perfect fit with the current lineup.

Well, I didn't say he was a great artist. He's a singer hired to do a job, and at this point, that's all he's had the chance to do with Journey. If they go on to make albums, he could possibly help write some songs and demonstrate more of a style. It's not likely that the band will go on to top the charts again with new hit singles, but the band was looking for someone who could sound like Steve Perry, and that's what this kid is.

i still think it should have been more like the original it just takes away from the amazingness that this song was. i think it wasn't only the new vocalist who overdid it. i think even the lead guitarist overdid it with his shredding. it's one thing if it fits but it sure as heck was just mindless shredding and that's coming from someone who plays a crapload of sweeping and fast solos

The new Arnel/Journey sound is awe-inspiring especially with the fine-tuned, hi-qual Chile festival downloaded CD. Listening to Rubicon & Wheel in the Sky, there's a neo-fusion reverberation of high-raspy, rocker ruff icon Axl Rose &...the great SP. It's pleasingly phenomenal!!!
The LV Live cd is great as well.
