I am intersexed as well and i am so greatful, that it wasn´t discovered when i was a child because that would have meant so much pain. those surgeries have to stop. the doctors always come along with arguments like"When your child shows naked in front of other kids blablabla" come on! I do not know a strong argument which is a clear pro for such genital mutiliations! People were so shocked when waris dirie talked about female genital mutiliation. now it´s time that people think about this!

I agree that surgery should be held off until after puberty is finished. Who's to say what kind of change the genitals will go through when they've finished puberty. Let the child fully develop their personalities until they're done growing.
As a parent I can say how difficult it is to raise a child period. You have to be there to protect your child from those who obviously have NO idea what they are doing!
My heart breaks for those who have had to endure such travesty.......

I am going to add this area of concern to work as an advocate/activist. The quack doctors need to be stopped. To all who are intersexed I was told that one of my cousins was same-sex.

Hard situation for everyone. Not just the child but the parent. Think about it from the parents perspective what would they say when they come home and people say what did you have a boy or girl. I feel bad for everyone but as society becomes more education people will change.

I am a XXXY Hermaphrodite. What problem does he speak of. We are as naturally born as any other human being. Males and females do not have to be mutilated to be vital members of society, so why are we Hermaphrodites ostracized and made to be sterilized this way. That is inhumane.
You know that sterilization of a race of people is Genocide. Hermaphrodites are a race of people. This is as bad as when Nazi Germany committed Genocide with the Holocaust. Asexual reproduction doesn't happen when a person is sterilized. Normalization is mutilation not corrective surgery.

How should she compete then? She can't compete as a man either as she is not a man. Are they going to create a separate category for hermaphradites? Not let the compete at all?
These children should be left alone to make their own minds up. One of the cruelest things I have just seen is the public humiliation of the young runner from South Africa. Why is it that anyone sexually "outside the so-called norm" seen as threatening??

We raise intersexed cats and dogs all the time. In fact, we make them intersexed by taking away their ovaries and testes and then we say how much we love their temperments.
That isnt intersex though. Intersex is being born with ambiguous genitals, and/or chromosomal genetic abnormalities. You could compare what we do with cats and dogs as like what transsexual people are. Having their reproductive organs removed. But human life is meant to be "sacred" so, we think nothing of de-sexing our pets, and think its a good thing to do, but ostracise Trans people for altering their bodies to fit their brains. Humans are really stupid at times...
Being transgender is not about "desexing". We are not neutered. The surgeries we obtain restore give us functioning genitalia that match out internal gender.
You really have to wonder just how many people labelled as "Trannys/transsexuals", actually had this surgery performed on them as children and they have no knowledge of it...
Intersex people who've had "corrective" surgery no they are intersex and not transgender as their genitalia is still ambiguous. Transgender people don't have ambiguous genitalia.
Given the obvious complexity of sexual orientation as well as gender orientation that originates in the brain, how can any doctor rush to a physical judgement about which "gender" this person is "supposed" to be?

This is quite similar to how the medical and religious communities insisted that homosexuality was a mental problem. We as a society are still so intolerant of difference. It scares us to death. Being a parent is a damn hard job. There's no compulsory training programme, there's no adequate emotional support when things just go wrong. Parents are sometimes forced to make decisions that seem so terribly wrong, (if they thought about it at the time), and their only guidance is some theory or other that it about to be put to the test one their child. I don't want to seem reasonable, I don't want to be fair, but I'm a parent too as well as being Intersex. I can see from both sides now.

thank you for putting this up. I've recently found out at the age of 33 that I've had something very samilar done to me and worse of all my folks knew and never told me. I'm not going to go into the gross details but this discovery has left me with so many contradicting emotions that I'm left confused how I even feel. I know the intention was in the right place but I just feel violated and robbed of my true self identity. At times I'm not sure how to cope with this. I just keep wondering WHY?
there must be laws put in place protecting infants from doctors and all forms of sexual alteration's/mutilations, 1 of 100 are born with what is considered not standard gentiles, however what society thinks is normal may not be normal for that individual who is intersex.
There is a depth here, and a height. When an individual can see it, one person at a time, humanity will change for the better, one bit at a time. Intersex Genital Mutilation is egregious.
not all surgeries are performed when a intersexed person is a child, I knows well enough what its like to wonder how much was done as a infant, only to now question what was done 6 years ago at 31 years of age, without consent, without explanation.

Most Müllerians (Vaginal) are XX, but not all, some are XY, etc.
Most Wolffians (Penile) are XY, but not all, some are XX, XXY, etc.
Most Males are Wolffian (Penile), but not all, some are FERTILE Müllerian (Vaginal).
Most Females are Müllerian (Vaginal), but not all, some are FERTILE Wolffian (Penile).
