I think the writers have always thought of pairing Dan and Blair except, Chair took off unexpectedly. The way Dan described Blair, I mean, if he was really into Serena, why would he care so much about her relationship with Blair? I think they meant for Dair to happen as a revenge plot on Serena and nate.
I think you're exactly right. A lot of the early scenes definitely suggest Blair took notice of Dan in a way that wasn't just, "My bestfriend's boyfriend." I really think the show would have been better off if Chair hadn't taken off and Chuck was fashioned into the main male character of GG. He was much better served as a skevy secondary character.
the best part about Dan's description is that the only really mean aspect of it is the girlie evil part. I mean what is so bad about labeling whoring? At least you look good :) Bon mot tossing=intelligence and wittiness (things that Dan appreciates) 95 lb doe eyed...not a horrible way to be described...she has a look of innocence...which is hysterical...but not mean.
i agree with sedeyus! blair/dan is a more like lily/rufus than serena/dan. like father like son! i was chair but now i dair...b/c dan and blair deserve the best and serena likes a different boy every month and takes dan for granted and chuck has a nasty cycle with hurting blair in terrible ways..she deserves someone loyal like dan!
I can definitely see why Rufus might be subconsciously supporting a Dair pairing. The funny thing is that looking back at the situation doesn't Lily/Rufus resemble Blair/Dan a lot more than Dan/Serena? Hopefully without all the sending people to prison thing, but all the sarcastic affection is definitely a Dair trait.
I honestly don't remember this part when rufus told dan that but he seems to know what the hell he's talking about if you would have said hey let's put dan and blair together i would have been uh i don't think so but now i watch it strictly to se them interact with each other I would like to see them maybe become a couple it could't hurt they do look cute together they seem to make each other laugh

I really hope Dans keeping this convo on his mind, cause I think he and Blair could be great together, specially since he knows that with Blair theres more than meets the eyes. He could be the one who can get the best of her.
