  • Voice of an angel that has touched many souls....

  • Voice of an angel

  • this is the saddest song ive ever heard...so good and bad wrapped together.... my heart is ripped out every time

  • I just found this music on vid of a guy showing a t-amp playing. This is great,I´m glad to see there´s still great music being made.I stopped listening to radio, they just play **it...what a voice.

  • Because of the subject matter, I am glad this is a video of them in a safe recording studio. I dissolve into tears in the car just listening to the music, having a literal video would be too much.

  • @mizgrid how could one not have the most vivid film rollin in their mind while the music plays nad her words paint.

  • they should make a video for this song

  • i love this song:)

  • my music teacher showed me this and i cried :'( <3 the song

  • i cried to this

  • @TheHottopicgurl I think you must if you have a soul.

  • alison kauss can only be compared to 1or two ppl..and they go way back....no one can compare to her!! shes the only one that u wld listen to if u wanted to hear an angel sing...her music is wonderful!!!

  • wait did jacobs wife help him or mislead him?

  • @jackpot435 Joplin will always be an ugly, and completely untalented stinky hippie. Fingernails. chalkboard. terrible. BTW, admitting that you think Joplin "was just a spirited force...to be felt" makes you sound queer as a $3 bill so don't pretend to know anything about women. I hate my girlfriends"GirlPower"music. She hates the old jeans i refuse to throw away. Somehow we manage. If I ever need advice you'll be the person to call so i can both enjoy AND 'feel' women. (whatever that means)

  • mommy and daddy... heart breakin..... tears abundant....

  • Absolutely Incredible.

    Story telling at its best!

  • I see God's perfection reflected in this beautiful woman with this haunting voice...

  • Comment removed

  • WOW. what a voice and song

  • A WONDERFUL & GRACIOUS VOICE

  • Alison is hot.

Add her sexy, sweet, melted-chocolate voice and you have a woman who can rival most college chicks.

I mean look at her in this video - smoking hot.

Her face is so smooth and perfect.

Her eyes are expressive and mesmerizing.

Her high pitched MOMMY & DADDY part comes so natural and easy for her.

She doesn't even strain. It's bloody amazing!

  • who the hell keeps mentioning Janis Joplin in the same sentence as. Alison Krauss? Janis Joplin sucks. alot. Just listen to her singing voice. It's bad. really really bad. My girlfriend always wants to listen to Janis Joplin in her girlpower music collection. complete torture! How someone so untalented could ever be so famous...but then i just go back and listen to some BritneySpears.

Patsy Cline..no one will ever sing 'i fall to pieces' better. Shes not in the same league as AKUS tho.

  • @jaksspring97 Janis Joplin wasn't known for her talented voice. It was the spirit. I appreciate a talented vocalist like Alison as much as the next guy, but I appreciate what one has to say over how one says it a lot more. Janis was just ... a force. Alison is to be enjoyed, Janis was to be felt. "My girlfriend always wants to listen to Janis Joplin in her girlpower music collection." Quite condescending. You just want to enjoy a woman, not feel one.

  • @davidhaleydanceking , I going to take a guess here that you have never been to a live concert of any kind if you think women artists don't sing in high heels,, and tho this may have been staged,, even live , Allison is an incredible singer whose high notes come easily to her.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard. I love Allison Krauss :))

  • I saw her in Colorado, and she's fantastic.I literally grew up listening to her music. This song just haunts me and gives me chills every time.

  • ALLISON KRAUSS HAS AN ANGEL'S VOICE!!

  • so powerful and at the sametime so vulnerable, and so intense, so sad but alison puts the story across so well-----its uncanny,

  • this is the first time I've heard this song...I wish I hadn't...it's sooo sad....I've got two kids myself and it just makes my heart bleed...I was hoping for a happy ending....I love her voice but I can't bring myself to hear this song again. :(

  • I start to cry whenever I hear the chorus

  • I cry when I just listen to the words. She brings such hope to something tragic.

  • Oh Alison why are you so turned down by teenagers today and Taylor Swift gets all the attention?!

She has an angel's voice, and she brings a hopeful feeling to such a tragic tale.

  • @Philosphyfanatic I'm 20 and I much prefer Alison to Taylor. Actually, I don't like anything of Taylor Swift. My really good friends, some of whom are in their late teens, and I have gone to a couple of her concerts over the years. Of course my friends and I have really old souls because we much prefer to read and discuss scientific, nerd things instead of run around to the clubs or whatever. I realize, unfortunately though, that we are in the minority.

  • gorgeous. Just gorgeous.

  • whoever dislikes this song hasn't got a heart

  • Possibly the saddest song ever written - makes sense that they'd need the voice of an angel to convey the utter tragedy and despair it evokes. Her voice could melt the coldest of hearts.

  • This is legitimately one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. Beautiful and bittersweet.

  • The voice of an Angel

Truly no q can sing this except Alison

    Beautiful song :)

    Annie

  • i just listened to this at school today and wanted to hear it again! SO SAD!!! :(

  • her live concert is amazing as well, i caught her in dayton ohio a few years back, and union station is outstandsing... def guna catch them in the future

  • Haunting!

    Incredible!!!!

  • So haunting and beautiful... My favorite song by her...

  • @lindan96 shes not making this up she got asked to sing the song from the story :)

  • This song was written by John Pennell and Julie Lee

  • One of the best songs I've heard in recent years. There is so much garbarge in modern music nowadays that it's such a relief that there's still the very occasional great like Alison Krauss left.

  • Who wrote this song?

  • @runawise Julie Lee

  • @runawise no one wrote it its a real story they just turned it into a song

  • @starznmoonz1 its called a ballad and it was a poem now its a song

  • @zbeasley15 it mightof been a poem i dont know cause i dont read poems but its still a true story

  • @starznmoonz1 it was a poem i had 2 read it in my literacy class.

  • @zbeasley15 ok i am just sayin

  • one of the best songs i heard in a LONG ASS TIME!!!!!

  • Yes..this is a great song and performance...but this song is really THE PRIEST by Joni Mitchell....go listen...Joni wrote it in 1969.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic no it's not you moron

  • @bluago YEAH it IS.. you Are just too STUPID to figure it out.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic no it's NOT.. I know that it's not because I happen to know that it's actually based off of a song called "I'm Keeping Your Poop" by Hayseed Dixie, written in 2002.

  • @bluago Anf when Did JONI write The Priest.. 1968..MAYBE " Hayseed Dixie...Borrowed...I am not saying it is the EXACT same song...but it has similarities.... and I am not saying this is not a great performance..IT IS.

  • Is that Dan Tyminsky on the guitar? I love the melody! Good bass too!

  • Really a nice performance by all. Nobody overpowering the other. Warm and rich with that beautiful, beautiful lilting voice. Thanks.

  • i live in the town that they died in

its right down the street from

    and my sisters friends uncle

    is who found them.

  • @starznmoonz1 You live in the town WHO died in? Patsy and Janis, who have been discussed here, died seven years apart, about 2000 miles apart, so I don't guess you are speaking of them. Is it the boys mentioned in Alison's song? If so, I guess it is your sister's friend's great, great, great, great uncle, right? The boys died in 1856.

  • @starznmoonz1 I call BS! Don't lie on the internet, especially if it's something that can be researched and proved wrong.

  • @starznmoonz1

i dnt think ur sisters friends uncle was alive in 1856

    you wanker .....

  • @robbieC971 fuck u i know his uncle and he was alive you dont

know nothing so dont tell me that i was wrong cause u dont about him

go up to the fucking memorial and read the story it fucking says jacob dibert

that is my sisters friend uncle so fuck u if u dont know the real story what happed

  • She's soooooo hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrDanh1Of course I have and yes they both were great, but niether had the soul in thier voice as Allison Krauss does. As good as Patsy and Janis were, it is my opinion, that niether one of them could evoke the kind of emotion Allison can.

  • @bkglamb 100% agree. Everyone is looking at the past when we have greatness in our midst, in the person of Alison Krauss. She takes a back seat to no one!

  • @CFMD28 Yes, you are right, but I can understand mrdanh's position, and I in no way meant to denigrate the legends. I would give my left arm to hear a Allison Krauss and Patsy Kline duet!!!!!

  • I can see Cherokee Indians in brightly colored feathers dancing by a fire when I listen to this song....

  • *shivers* Amazing......it's amazing how all she does is tell a story......yet communicates so much emotion through a simple story. *shivers more*

  • @GuitarKat93 she brings it to life with her voice.

  • @bkglamb So true.

  • This song just rips my heart out, makes me hug my son tighter.

  • Probably one of the most beautiful and saddest songs I have ever heard and to know it is a true occurance makes it even more heart-breaking. Her voice is amazing, the true voice of Bluegrass music.

  • Such a good song, and it makes it even more sad that it's a true story.

  • No one sings these songs like Allison: God bless her.

  • @Zziggyy7 He did, why do think her voice is so angelic. lol.

  • I cant remeber where I heard this but it fits this Video "a reason to stay alive in a justin biber world".

  • She sounds like a godess. Literally. My chorus teacher let us listen to this yesterday and i cried like a baby.

  • Reminds me of Joni Mitchell's "The Priest".

  • I like how when she sings high it just comes out of her mouth like nothing

  • If you have ever wandered what an angel soonds like, well wonder no more. It is my opinion Ms. Krauss is an angel sent from heaven. A gift from God that we may enjoy.

  • i absolutly love her and this song!!! the first time i ever heard this song i was with my friend and she was singing it and i asked her... who sings that song??? she said allison krauss.. i had never heard of her before and i cried the first time i heard it full length. she is amazing and has the voice of an angel!!

  • The first time I heard this song, I teared up.

  • this song is so sad i stil rember the first time i heard it.

  • this song just breaks my heart!! ahhh can't hardly stand listening to it :'(

  • What an unbelievable song from an unbelievable woman with an unbelievable voice. AMAZING!

  • This is a very powerful song and I get goose bumps everytime I listen to it. I have only one child and he is close to my heart foever and always. I love his so much!!

  • Oh god, that refrain...."Oh Mommy and Daddy..."

I am literally sobbing right now.

  • I am assuming that ol' spike is a guy or a very emotionless woman. First off, you are admitting you have NO feelings. I have always known that there isn't a man out there that does. How can you possibly think anyone could

go through anything worse than those kids? That is a true story numbnuts!!! If in fact you are a female, you probably have balls if you don't feel anything from that song!!

  • @halfnelson28 Your statement that you have always known there isn't a man out there with feelings shows me that you have NEVER known any real men. I feel sorry for you.

  • I was floored by this track on her Collection CD, but I'd never heard this song performed live. What an amazing voice, what a talent. There's a good reason for all of those Grammy awards.

  • Add me to the "Weeps Every Time" crowd....

  • MY GOD...... if anyone can listen to this and not weep has no soul!!!!!!

  • @halfnelson28

i didnt cry because if i cant cry at the people going through worse then why should i show more sympathy to a song thats just describing it

  • how can she finish

  • Great song. I am distanly related to the man who had the dreams. Wow Alison makes her singing look so effortless. Amazing

  • God, I know you've heard it before, probably many times before, but...please grant my request: May the angels singing sound like Alison Krauss on the day I get to Heaven. Thank you, Father! :)

  • it is such a sad song but i can sing it so well

  • if have heard this song more than hundred times and i keep listening this song

    they are verry good

  • If I could have anyones voice, it'd be hers. She has one of the purest, most beautiful voices Ive ever heard. And she doesnt even struggle a bit on those high notes. Amazing.

  • @amoi423 when she sings she just looks like it's not hard at all, to sing like that my face would look so strained...

  • Surely there is no other Art form on Earth, that can move us more than a heartbreaking story, told to us by a beautiful singing voice & wonderful musicianship!

It really doesn't get any better than this!

  • i get chills every single time

  • @MegJ326 me too

  • I personally get sick of hearing alison's fans yell and scream it's nto polite and it's hard to focus on singing when people are screaming a clapping constantly through your songs. I'd tell them to shut up too

  • GOOSEPIMPLES ALL OVER

    everything is good

    voice, guitar. lyrics

  • a signed pic and CD. i cried the whole home and wouldnt listen to her for years. You just dont treat your fans like that.Your fans are who make you.

  • I love to hear hTer sing but i would not bay a dime to see her live. I sat at the Poppy Mountain Music Festivle and she was so rude to all of her fans. I was eight and sat in the rain for like five or six hours so that i could see her and the first thing she did was tell the crowd that if they didnt "SHUT UP" that she would walk off the stage. After that she refused to sighn pictures for anyone even for kids that were soaking wet and cold. Lonesome Riverband seen what she had said and gave me a

  • @themccloudsrule Dang,i wouldnt pay to get talked to like tht either. i mean yea the screaming could annoy someone . but she couldve handled that different and nicer

  • this song brings me to tears every time i hear it.....amazing

  • Wow

  • Amazing...simply...thank you!

  • I'm a grown ass man, and anytime I want to get emotional, I bring this song up, because I cry everytime I hear it.

  • im just glad that they will see the boys again!

  • a perfect performance.she has the finest voice in history

  • I have always had such a strong connection to this song and don't entirely know why. So haunting.

  • Beautiful song. Gives me cold chills.

  • this one n My Heart Will Go On is the most powerful songs i ever heard

  • thank you nehtnerd

  • She's really not even trying. She's the boss.

  • Saddest song every written, and Allison K. puts the emotion to the words by the way she sings it. In other words her voice adds the color to complete the painting the original writers outlined.

  • Beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time. I'd love to know if it's made up or is their some truth to it. Thanks for putting it on here. This my friends Laura favorite song. She is a special friend.

  • @jimbronxny It's a true story.

  • so sad T.T but so good

  • The saddest song ever, sung by the best female voaclist ever.

  • This song is beautiful and makes me stop and think how sad life can be at times that i just ignore because i dont want to be sad. i dont think that made any sense.... but still beautiful song sung by an amazing singer.

  • Heartbreakingly beautiful......

  • A Bold Song done perfectly by Alison.

  • I can't believe that she wrote this song!Its GREAT! [:

  • Unfortunately, she did not write it. The writer was on this show before Alison sang it. But its a sad, disturbing, killer good song, as true songs can be.

  • @catsservant Was written by Julie lee and John Pennell but still a great job by Alison

  • Oh Alison, so beautiful, so sad. You will never be replaced.

  • Wow!

  • i'm going to be singing this song. And im nurvis

  • Ugh this song gets me every time! So sad... so beautifully sung by Alison....

  • this song is great

  • I need that Martin Guitar! Love those finish worn guitars! Sigh!

  • @greenroofsouth

Try a Morgan Monroe. I love martin but Morgan is better.

  • The greatest female vocalist of all time.

  • The saddest song ever written, in my opinion.

  • i cried but i luv it soooo much

  • Dang. She makes even the bad news sound good.

  • This song is so depressing, it makes me wanna blow my fucking brains out. She does have a beautiful.

  • this song is so sad but its really good

  • I LOVE ALISON!GOD BLESS!

  • my step dad's grandfather is the jacob in the story and song. It isn't based on a true story it is one

  • my God. imagine finding them. imagine being those parents. what a horrible thing to live with. i cannot imagine.

  • whoa dude wow

  • thats so sad

  • Who is the gentlemen playing the old martin at the beginning of the song?

  • @MrDanh1 what's that about? that's horrible.

  • made me cry - flawless angel voice, almost too pretty to bear

  • Alison is an angel,no doubt in my mind.

    Beautiful song!

    Grtz. from the Netherlands

  • its so sad:( her voice is like an angel...

  • How is it possible? She is PERFECT. This song is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard.

  • AND shes CUTE, AS ALL GIT OUT!!!!

  • alison is the finest soprano for fifty years with out doubt or competition

  • Same here traciecoffey19, wow it s just so powerful. I was imagining the poor boys.

  • i dont have children, but i can hear and feel the dread from the boys .awesome song

  • I just wanna cry every time i hear this song :(

  • Just perfect.

  • i saw him do it years ago on a variety/talk/heehaw type late 70s deal. this version is better. i cant find it now the other one. he sang it in it. what is his name?

  • unless im bad wrong the guy playing the guitar thats not ron block or dan tymynski with the skint up acoustic guitar wrote this.

  • Actually the guy playing the guitar is Stuart Duncan, an award winning fiddle player. He did not write the song however.
