I am a card totten conservative, will always be, believe in my second amendment rights and the constitution. This poem speaks volumes and deep down I think most Americans agree with it's message. Not all sadly.
I'm incredibly progressive and I don't hate any large subsets of people that have no bearing on my life so I guess you could call me liberal.... but I've been a Johnny Cash fan ever since I was a kid, and that won't change regardless of which box I check on election day.
@romanpr1nce i thin if they were alive today, and could see what America has become, i doubt they would think the same way they did in 1776, not saying they'd get rid of the Constitution or say they were wrong or anything, but if they were alive today, they would still be libertarian, but i can't see them being non-interventionists, like Paul, even though i like Ron Paul, i really disagree with him on that.
"America is the well-wisher of freedom to all, but the champion and victor of non but her own." "We should not go out looking for monsters to destroy." "We should stay out of the internal affairs of other nations."
The founding fathers were and would be non-interventionists if they were alive today; they would also be banned from the Republican Party.
@romanpr1nce well lets look at the circumstances of today and back then. back then the US was a very minor player in the world, it took 3-4 months to cross the Atlantic to get to were anything major was happening, and all that would happen in Europe is that every couple of weeks the French, Germans and Brits would war with each other, compared to now were if i want to see whats going on in Europe, i can just check google, the times are very different.
@maximunoutlaw32 I am all for a strong national defense, but a defense means defense. Not trying to redraw the map of foreign nations, spreading democracy as if we've picked up the task of the Soviet Union spreading our values by the barrel of a gun, or giving foreign aid to other dictators to make them like us.
If the founding fathers were alive on 9/11, they would, like Mr. Paul had, gave congressional approval to go into Afghanistan, DESTROY our enemy as quickly as possible, and LEAVE.
@romanpr1nce leaving would have been a disaster, think about the world after WW2, we occupied Italy, we occupied Japan, and part of Germany, because leaving these countries in a shamble would have been irresponsible, granted, we have been in Afghanistan too long, and if we waged total Sherman style war, in all wars, we wouldn't have to stay in their as long, we need to break our enemies will to fight. if you want to talk more about this we can in the messages because i would say more, but i can't
George Washington and Ben Franklin would be ashamed of what the USA has become...............

The Founding Fathers would not be modern Liberals nor would they be treasonous constitution-hating neo-conservative Republicans.
They'd never get elected today. They'd be called isolationists and extremists. They'd be called radicals like Ron Paul.
