Frisian is a little bit close to English but that's about it. English is the bastard child of Latin, French and Old English.

Swedish is NOT even close to even German, it is a language much more Nordic than Germanic.

The various accents in the British Isles descend from different Celtic people.

Well, all of this won't change the fact that Swedes and Germans have no culture.

nordic is part of the germanic language tree. nordic=north germanic

west germanic includes english dutch and german. and german is not the same as germanic, big difference. do ur research before claiming to know things. british is not even an ethnic group. people from england have middle and northern european roots and are different from he Welsh or Irish and Scottish. as for germany and sweden havin no culture, at least our economies are stable.

By the way, the Anglo-Saxons who invaded the British Isles were assimilated by the stable Celtic population. The Nordics were gothicised aka germanicised. The Slavic people and their culture have alot more in common with Nordics than Germanics.

We have the Franks (Netherlands and north-west to central germany) the Alemanni (southwest), the Baiuvarii (southeast and Austria), the Thuringians, the Saxons, Angles (germany, allegedly england) our language is also the most close to goth, Lombardic gets also classified as high-german. Indeed... Modern Germany/the Netherlands(possibly)/ and certainly south-Denmark are the most close relatives to the old germanic tribes. ALL OF THEM.

@Peppepoppldoppl english got changed alot from old saxon. Probably because of island-influences. The dialects classified as "Anglo-Saxon" already got morphed away heavily from the low-german old saxon.

I do not agree that swedish is not close to german though. Standard-german became a HIGH german language(from the south-middle east, because of Luther) the ancient german people were speaking different dialects before they all accepted the common dialect "invented" by luther.

A relation is also possible, because recent tests have shown that north-germans are more close to south-swedes then south-swedes are to north-swedes. (genetic distance) however, I do not see that english is more close to swedish, then low-german is.
