I was stationed with the 82nd (Fort Bragg) in 1968. I also went through basic training at Fort Bragg in 1967. Bragg was not to bad back then but cannot speak of the condition there today. Not many good things to say about Fayetteville, NC (the town outside of Bragg). But he never forgot his friends and comrads in the 82nd. To go through all of that and then, tragically, to be killed in a motorcycle accident 10 years ago. Buried with full honors as he, and so,so,may others deserve. I miss him so much. RIP Bro
any way to find out if a specific soldier is in this video? my neighbor and good friend was in the 82nd paratrooper and just died in Dec.2011, looking for any videos with him in it..thanks..
My dad was in the 82nd airborne division for 21 years and i was actually born in Fort Bragg,NC and maybe someday i will go back there.Right now im in the 8th grade just keeping my grades up to all A`s so i can go to West Point or become a Navy SEAL
I was 82nd 86-89 and trained with elements of the 101 many times; back then even though they are "air assault" they still did maintain some airborne companies. They didnt like coming to Bragg much since we referred to them as "soap on a rope" LOL "All the way" 101 : )

Hey, QUESTION. Is there an airborne school at Ft. Bragg? Because I'm PsyOp and I have 37F1P. Does the P mean I'll be going to airborne school during AIT at Bragg?
@guitarhamster102 ALL military branches and mos qualify basic parachutist @ ft. benning ga.you will train with officers and ncos right beside you along with navy seals, marine recon.only one JUMP SCHOOL.yes the "P"beside your mos indicates paratrooper.they used to wait until you qualified airbone before they gave it to you when i was in,because the dropout rate was so high.good luck
@juseph29 Yeah, just found out I have to get an airborne slot through my unit since I was too stupid to ask for it in my contract. Anyways, is the dropout rate still very high? Because I HAVE to have basic parachutist qualification to stay in my reserve unit.
@guitarhamster102 i went thru veitnam era, dropout was 60% .if you have to get on a waiting list keep your legs and lungs fit while waiting, upper body is minimum.lots of squats and a whole lot of double time.someone will get you there if your unit requires it..good luck
The second biggest regret of my enlistment in the Army as an 11B was not going to Airborne School, my first is not going to Ranger School. Now almost age 40 I have realized you're only 18 once.
Far more than what I've done in my life, I regret that which I have not done...
I'm watching this because I'm interested in Ranger/Airborne. That being said I was curious, do those cables automatically open your chute? It looks like it but I could be mistaken.
@HMM265GS you're universal static line is hooked up to an anchor line cable on the inside of the aircraft. once you exit, the chute opens up after about 4 seconds.

@yummyyumsum Yes, a few really bad exit positions. Twisted risers, at least. Like me, on my first jump. Black hat was pissed and made me do pushups on the DZ.
This is Ft. Bragg, looks to be Sicily DZ, saw about four jumpers with AA combat patches, so no reason they would be jumping at Benning. As far as 'worth the pay' I assure you no one joins the Airborne for jump pay. And as far as being screamed at by Black Hats I would say by the amount of weak exits and static lines running low in the door, someone needs to yell a LOT louder!! -->> Eighty Deuce, 1988-92
This brings back memories of younger days. I encourage anyone wanting to enlist to go airborne. You will make some great memories and you will increase your self confidence.
@MaasterButcher Well Back in the 80' we listened to Megadeth "Peace Sells" in the 82d. Of course there was no such thing as you tube or google back then
Holy crap, I live here! I don't think I see specificially them, but I do see paratroopers jump on like Wensdays and Fridays. Sometimes from helicopters, its cool
Okay this may sound idiotic, 1983 I was a 71 Lima, an admin clerk, and yes I went to Airborne school. Everyone said, "Wait a minute, you're a clerk, why are you going airborne?" Because I can. I earned my wings and wore them proudly. And I dared anyone to take them of my chest.
Airborne school used the same helmets - the only difference is that they had masking tape with your roster number on them instead of a camo cover like you would have at your unit.
@shocktrp66 Yes, indeed this is Sicily DZ, you can tell by the dirt airstrip that runs down the middle. Nice to see some cool vidz of my Airborne Brethren. AI-RB-OR-NE.
@dlevans01 it was the song right before this creed song you just put up. It said on the track listing that it was van halens jump but it wasnt. I come at least once a week to watch this video because of that song lol, its perfect! But i cant find the name anywhere...
sn: I think it had voices screaming "army ..." something something "all the way"?
Without a doubt that's Bragg, NOT Benning. 82nd Airborne, The All American Div. '67-'69, I know that LZ on sight!
See any funky white tape on the helmets? Nope.... Bragg, definitely not Benning. Oh, and there ain't no cool music... it's bout impossible to hear the JumpMaster, unless you're in the first 10 or so.
Not a bad video though. Most of the guys doin a good shuffle step and in good body position, with only a few 'twisties!' Those guys have jumped more than a few times.
@bjjvancouver most people have jump status well before they ever become a seal candidate. but no that's fort bragg. this video is regular 8nd AB unit training.
and the navy Spec war course is for halo training. when I went through AB school in Ft.Benning I had A lot of Marine Force Recon In Canidates my class.
@bjjvancouver sorry your info is wrong.the ONLY basic jump school is ft. benning ga. all branches of service must come through benning.it may be other schools as far as advance training in parachute assaults, but your wings must be earned in benning
@bjjvancouver The only jump school that is recognized by DOD is at Fort Benning. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force all go through the same Airborne School
@Swervin309 Actually that is not totally correct. 10thSFDAE in Germany used to run its own Jump School in Germany that was recognized by DOD as my DD214 would reflect.
this the basic airborne course for army airborne paratroopers, rangers, and special forces. it is NOT the specialized school that teaches High Altitude Low opening (HALO). or High Altitude High opening(HAHO).
Marines, Sailors and Airman do attend this course, but its not the same special forces parachutist school. I do believe the SEALs have their own specialized school for advanced parachuting, as does the Army. I think the Army version is in Arizona. Not exactly sure where the SEALs train.
@bjjvancouver Well, changing the title would be your call. Maybe "Parachute Assault at Fort Bragg." But whatever you want to do, it's still a great video--thanks for posting it! I briefed our new replacements, who arrived from Jump School at Benning, that if they had any plans for the future, that if they didn't want to get themselves killed in the military parachuting business, they damn will better pay attention to their NCOs and jumpmasters. An airborne UNIT ain't Jump School!
Im curious where that is...definitely not Ft Bennings drop zone... I just went thru Basic Airborne Training and have that DZ burnt into the back of my head ....
@2012Norris Nope, you are correct, it is not Benning. The color footage is Sicily DZ at Bragg. You can clearly see the hard-ball road at the leading edge, and a bit farther down the DZ is the orange, clay-surfaced flight landing strip that extends in front of the bleachers. I know every inch of that old DZ like my back yard: 2-325, '70-72; 5th SFG, '73-'77; 1-505, '84-'86; 4-325, '86-'89; XVIII Corps, '91-96.
Manchester road. I am a little surprised you can't see the RAM and the DZSO on the ground. Was a little dissappointed the footage cuts out before Longstreet as well. Once saw an entire chalk from a 141 get green lighted at Longstreet (in stead of Manchester Road) and 100 and some troops landed in MacRidge Impact Area. Word on the street afterwards was that the loadmasters AND the Jumpmasters were decertified- as they should have been.
@agh341 I , too, seem to recall a planeload jumping south of Longstreet. Might be the same incident. When I heard about it, my first thought was of some jumper stepping on a dud in the dark and getting himself blown away.
when your about to make a touchdown, yes I call it touchdown, don't do too much second guessin. you are actually more likely to recieve a broken leg on a day jump than at any other time cause they think about hitting the ground instead of concentrating on the training.
juanluis'62.......Awesome! Brings back memories of the time I went to jump school in 1991 at Fort Benning, GA. as a first generation paratrooper, and later stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. with the 307th. Engineer Battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division. Hopefully some day my son will follow in my footsteps but as an officer and not an enlisted member like myself. God bless the Army and God bless the United States of America! AIRBORNE! AAARRRGH!

This brings back memories of younger days. I encourage anyone wanting to enlist to go airborne. You will make some great memories and you will increase your self confidence.

Okay this may sound idiotic, 1983 I was a 71 Lima, an admin clerk, and yes I went to Airborne school. Everyone said, "Wait a minute, you're a clerk, why are you going airborne?" Because I can. I earned my wings and wore them proudly. And I dared anyone to take them of my chest.
wemusbill 1 year ago
That jumpmaster needs to hang the fuck out a lot more and a lot longernothing but your fingers and heels should be in that aircraft
MrBarri13 1 year ago
this definitely is not fort benning
cspradlin100 1 year ago
This is actually the airborne test board. They were testing exits and watching what happened from bad exits. At least that is who shot the video

Sicily DZ at Ft. Bragg.
Airborne school used the same helmets - the only difference is that they had masking tape with your roster number on them instead of a camo cover like you would have at your unit.
shocktrp66 1 year ago
@shocktrp66 Yes, indeed this is Sicily DZ, you can tell by the dirt airstrip that runs down the middle. Nice to see some cool vidz of my Airborne Brethren. AI-RB-OR-NE.

@dlevans01 it was the song right before this creed song you just put up. It said on the track listing that it was van halens jump but it wasnt. I come at least once a week to watch this video because of that song lol, its perfect! But i cant find the name anywhere...
sn: I think it had voices screaming "army ..." something something "all the way"?

Listen to Airborne Ranger 2 at my site
ProgRockDan1 1 year ago
Without a doubt that's Bragg, NOT Benning. 82nd Airborne, The All American Div. '67-'69, I know that LZ on sight!
See any funky white tape on the helmets? Nope.... Bragg, definitely not Benning. Oh, and there ain't no cool music... it's bout impossible to hear the JumpMaster, unless you're in the first 10 or so.
Not a bad video though. Most of the guys doin a good shuffle step and in good body position, with only a few 'twisties!' Those guys have jumped more than a few times.
jacksonrhodes22 1 year ago
@hungrierthanuall
From my understanding, Navy Seals now have their own 'airborne school;' Naval Special Warfare Parachute Training Course in San Diego, CA
bjjvancouver 1 year ago 5
@bjjvancouver most people have jump status well before they ever become a seal candidate. but no that's fort bragg. this video is regular 8nd AB unit training.
and the navy Spec war course is for halo training. when I went through AB school in Ft.Benning I had A lot of Marine Force Recon In Canidates my class.
damion0068 1 year ago
@bjjvancouver sorry your info is wrong.the ONLY basic jump school is ft. benning ga. all branches of service must come through benning.it may be other schools as far as advance training in parachute assaults, but your wings must be earned in benning
juseph29 1 year ago
@bjjvancouver
I actually saw some seals and force recon guys there when i went through in 2003.
fallout2029 11 months ago
@bjjvancouver The only jump school that is recognized by DOD is at Fort Benning. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force all go through the same Airborne School
Swervin309 11 months ago
@Swervin309 Actually that is not totally correct. 10thSFDAE in Germany used to run its own Jump School in Germany that was recognized by DOD as my DD214 would reflect.
eddvoss 11 months ago
@Swervin309 Don't forget the West Point Cadets!!!
spareaxe 10 months ago
this the basic airborne course for army airborne paratroopers, rangers, and special forces. it is NOT the specialized school that teaches High Altitude Low opening (HALO). or High Altitude High opening(HAHO).
Marines, Sailors and Airman do attend this course, but its not the same special forces parachutist school. I do believe the SEALs have their own specialized school for advanced parachuting, as does the Army. I think the Army version is in Arizona. Not exactly sure where the SEALs train.
shadypark78 7 months ago
bj - that is correct. This footage is of Sicily DZ at Fort Bragg (North Carolina). Airborne School is at Fort Benning (Georgia).
agh341 1 year ago
@4325air does this mean I have to change the title? ;)
bjjvancouver 1 year ago
@bjjvancouver Well, changing the title would be your call. Maybe "Parachute Assault at Fort Bragg." But whatever you want to do, it's still a great video--thanks for posting it! I briefed our new replacements, who arrived from Jump School at Benning, that if they had any plans for the future, that if they didn't want to get themselves killed in the military parachuting business, they damn will better pay attention to their NCOs and jumpmasters. An airborne UNIT ain't Jump School!
4325air 1 year ago
With no hesitation you can tell that this is not a training video.

pope11r 1 year ago
Im curious where that is...definitely not Ft Bennings drop zone... I just went thru Basic Airborne Training and have that DZ burnt into the back of my head ....
2012Norris 1 year ago
@2012Norris Nope, you are correct, it is not Benning. The color footage is Sicily DZ at Bragg. You can clearly see the hard-ball road at the leading edge, and a bit farther down the DZ is the orange, clay-surfaced flight landing strip that extends in front of the bleachers. I know every inch of that old DZ like my back yard: 2-325, '70-72; 5th SFG, '73-'77; 1-505, '84-'86; 4-325, '86-'89; XVIII Corps, '91-96.
4325air 1 year ago
@4325air
Word on the street afterwards was that the loadmasters AND the Jumpmasters were decertified- as they should have been.
agh341 1 year ago
@agh341 I , too, seem to recall a planeload jumping south of Longstreet. Might be the same incident. When I heard about it, my first thought was of some jumper stepping on a dud in the dark and getting himself blown away.
4325air 1 year ago
this isnt airborne school
1.there are no large bodies of water near that dropzone
2.Their are no ach covers on the helmets

when your about to make a touchdown, yes I call it touchdown, don't do too much second guessin. you are actually more likely to recieve a broken leg on a day jump than at any other time cause they think about hitting the ground instead of concentrating on the training.

That's Bragg home of the 82nd. The All American Division. Did it there in '67.

juanluis'62.......Awesome! AIRBORNE! AAARRRGH!
