  • After 6 months of offering stem cell therapy in combination with the venous angioplasty liberation procedure, patients of CCSVI Clinic have reported excellent health outcomes. Ms. Kasma Gianopoulos of Athens Greece, who was diagnosed with the Relapsing/Remitting form of MS in 1997 called the combination of treatments a “cure”. Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more information.

  • @oran6es ok, ill use my own analogy. take an apple, cut out a seed, and put it on a table. by your logic, that seed is, right now, at this very moment, an apple tree. no, it "could" be an apple tree, if it were in the correct environment, with the right conditions. like how an embryo could, eventually, become a human being. i honestly dont get how people could be against something that could heal so many people. and, off topic, is cord blood ok to take? or is that "harvesting body parts?"

  • If you want to live your life according to some myths dreamed up by a group of sand eating nomads, go move out to the desert and stop holding modern society back. Religion is a crock of shit and i'll be damned if it drags all of humanity back into the stone ages. Get out of the way and let people alot smarter than you improve the lives of others and advance humanity

  • Incorrect. Evolution is real. I understand DNA. Abortion, not good(check out pictures of a dismembered fetus). The mother has "choice". I should have choice not to finance it.

A "leftover" is no less human than any other. The 'they're gonna die anyway" argument means researchers should be able to use inmates on death row, or old people in nursing homes as well. Is that humane?

I'm guessing that you're against animal research.

  • @oran6es The is nothing immoral in taking a 3 day old embryo (about 150 cells) and using the cell to cure someones MS or CP.

  • @nmatters That assumes they will cure anything. If these cures require more cells and more embryos, that's a whole new can of worms.

  • @oran6es It have been proven to cure CP, they have tested it you know. Better to seek a cure than worry about 150 cells, you know a fly brain have around 100.000 cells right? should we not kill flies? You will most likely say, that's a fly and not a "human being". But then again, 150 cells isn't a human now is it?

  • @nmatters CURE CP? Let's see a reference. I haven't heard any such news. Save a fly:maggots; save an embryo:walking talking thinking human.

  • @oran6es An embryo is not a walking human being; it's doesn't think it doesn't feel.

And if you don't even bother looking up what have been done with stem cell research then no wonder you are against it. But I will ask you one question, and I want you to be honest.

Would you rather let a child with CP spend their life in a wheelchair than cure it? If you honestly believe that those 150 cells should be spared so that Tim will never know how it feels to walk, then who's the immoral here?

  • @nmatters We ALL want cures for everyone. There are a FINITE number of "spare" embryos. To cure diseases with embryos, you'll need embryo factories, and that will harm many women. Adult stem cells or those cells from umbilical fluid, or induced pleuripotent stem cells from skin cells are the future of this research.

  • @oran6es Glad we agree that stem cells work, and indeed that adult stem cells works as well.

  • @nmatters

yes, they work, but not as well...

  • @oran6es

1: we wont need factories if you guys would LET US CLONE, BUT YOUR AGAINST THAT TOO!

2: reverse engeneered skin cells are imperfect and have a higher risk of cancer developing, and umbilical cord blood is only multipotent, meaning they can only become SOME kinds of stem cells. i will make more points against you super-religion guys later, i dont have enough letters left to express that my brother is dying of a disease that can be cured with embryonic stem cells.

  • @oran6es

there are 150 cells in a 3 day old human embryo, and none of those are brain or nerve cells. That may sound like a lot, but there are 100,000 cells in the brain of a fly, which does have nerves. so if this is about suffering, you should be far more concerned about killing flies.

  • @ThePlayking57 Stupid analogy. By your( Sammy Harris') number of cells thesis, an infant is 1/10 the human as an adult: DUMB. An embryo, a child, and an adult are different stages of a living human's existence. That's a biological fact. Suffering? You must therefore favor the harvesting of a comatose person who'll be awake in a few months.

  • @oran6es

if its a “potential” human being, then you have problems. every cell in your body, under the right conditions, is a potential human. so every time you scratch your nose, you are committing a holocaust

  • @oran6es

and the “soul” part, if a embryo slits into twins at this point, is that soul splitting, so its only half a soul? and when 2 embryos fuse together into a chimera, what happens to that other soul? this “soul math” does not make sense.

  • @ThePlayking57 Are you Sammy Harris? It's not about SOULS. It's about the inappropriate unethical control of one group of humans over another group, converting one group of developing individual humans into marketable commodities.

We're ALL for cures. Funding this BOGUS research takes away from more realistic , more promising, ethical research.

  • @nmatters

there are 150 cells in a 3 day old human embryo, and none of those are nerve or brain cells. That may sound like a lot, but there are 100,000 cells in the brain of a fly, which DOES have a nervous system. so if this is about suffering, you should be far more concerned about killing flies.

  • @oran6es not leftover, its not a hamburger. potential. and if its a “potential” human being, then you have problems. every cell in your body, thanks to science, under the right conditions, is a potential human. so every time you scratch your nose, you are committing a holocaust. and animal research is, under circumstances, ok, like if rats are giving a disease, and there is an overpopulation of rats, then you should be able to test on rats.

  • @ThePlayking57 You've regurgitated Sam Harris ver batem. Unfortunately you AND he are TOTALLY biologically INACCURATE. An embryo is an ACTUAL developing human, not a potential human. It's a potential child, a potential adult, but an ACTUAL developing human. Skin cells from the nose? WRONG AGAIN. Superficial epithelial cells are dead an non-nucleated: they CANNOT be cloned.

  • Quit ignoring Adult Stem Cell Research (ASCR) Successes! Too many of you are focused on: With, The Possibility, of One Day, And Enough Money, Plus The Massive Amount of Research, With Good Scientific Breaks and No Interference there may be - Maybe,,,some successes in Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

But, as of this writting, there have been no successful proceedures or help for any Humans. The only Stem Cell Successes are in ASCR. Time to put our money in a proven success to help people now!

  • What are you guys going to do when you run out of the "leftover" embryos ?

  • ora - That's an easy answer,,,, Create New Ones, of course.

  • We're free now to enjoy government sponsored cannibalism.

  • We're free now, to violate ethics, we're free now, to give tax money for the new soylent green.

  • shut up, we all know religion is a crock of shit time to get with the times, this shit helps people, if you were criple and they offered this to you and said it will fix, chances are you will take it before asking God to cure you. God doesnt make miracles we do

  • Name one cure. Big ZERO. Teratomas, look it up. Everyone wants cures. Embryo destruction for decades for "research" is BOGUS.

  • we havnt cured anything yet because its been bannnnnnnnnnned!!! retard, havnt had a chance to correct mistakes or anything. And decades? stemcell research hasnt been around for decades, the idea of it has but no work. Do your homework please. People like you make things hard to get to because close minded morons like yourself put things down before anything has been finished.

  • I'm no retard. I'm for cures and research. I'm against human ownership, slavery, cannibalism, in any form. The theory is just that, a theory. I see no long term promise at all. It's impractical, and the numbers do not add up. 24 million diabetics in the US, how many embryos needed, how many factories? How many corporate owned humans in their earliest stage of development?

  • who cares? we all thought cars would only be owned by the rich, Internet would never exist, we would never reach the moon or other planets, and many more, they were all "impractical" yet we did it anyways. Close minded uneducated people all think nothing is possible or think of all the negative sides. We'll never know untill we try

  • I cares. I'm probably more educated than most. I am open minded. Slavery was very popular 6 generations ago. It was just as wrong then as it is now. How positive can something be if it's killing Peter to cure Paul? That's a net zero. And it's a net negative, because there are presently ZERO cures on the horizon using killed embryos.

  • You are free now, to get the hell out if ya don't like it:)

  • I have wiped civilizations off my chest with a gym sock.

  • its not theory its fact that both esc and asc stem cells can help people and cure disease

  • Actually, it's in between the two. It's a fact that they hold promise, but it's currently only the theory that motivates us to study them as we do. Untill we get a viable cure for something that is, then it will be a total fact. One should never confuse theory and fact, especially when it comes to science. Oh, just so there's no doubt, I AM in support of Obama's move. I think it's actually a good idea.

  • small - In theory, ESCR holds more hope for cures of every kind. In actuality, to-date, ESCR has produced ZERO cures. Far too much money is being spent on a possible, ah maybe, , , Cure-all.

Even the most optomistic researchers will tell you that it will be decades, , , If ever, that ESCR will accomplish what those researchers want it to.

  • Its interesting to see all these people saying embryonic stem cells will solve all their problems when it is more likely that these undifferentiated cells will cause tumors to grow. Adult stem cells will produce more practical results then embryos.

This debate is not about research needed for the sick its about sanctity of life. Altered Nuclear Transfer is a way around embryo destruction but its ignored. Why? They provide the same pluripotent cells?

  • have to go now

Going to hand out about 1000 new flyers.

Everyone always Google Tom Heneghan & Stew Webb to keep up to date where the media doesn't.

Footnote: I have been invited to Astoria where I was last spring & also to McCarren Park which I was at last year too.

I love Queens & Brooklyn as well.

Check out again Google Jane Bowell Brooklyn bridge & the link to The Passion of the Christ

I look forward to working with Mel Gibson & also with many associated with Jesus Christ Superstar!!!

  • Im so happy he passed this law i might walk again one day, so dont rain on my parade! You dont live like i do everyday, do you?

  • I think it just got unsigned Wednesday.

Also, why is it good if it was signed? Government is your God that can make no error and your it;s nice little slav... a hem, I mean "worker"

  • Research shows that adult and umbilical-cord stem cells provide the materials needed for stem-cell research - embryonic stem cells are not needed to cure and treat diseases. So why is the pro-embryonic-research lobby so loath to admit this? Because if we say that destroying human embryos for scientific research is wrong and unnecessary, it's harder to say that abortion is fine.Susan Konig@NYPost

  • Obama just signed the Omnibus Bill which states in article 509 page 280 "none of funds available under this act may be used for research in which embryos are destroyed or discared or knowlingly subjected to risk of injury or death." It's great that he has changed his mind. SIGNED Wednesday.

  • I have a problem with wasting human life, time and money on research that has proven, horrific and useless. Put the money into ADULT stem cell research where all the success stories are coming from now. People who need stem cell treatments should be outraged at this useless detour.

  • The info I am stating is accurate, Gordonlipper.

Anybody can research this info for themselves. People in charge do not always do the right thing.Sometimes they don't even know what the right thing is. I will educate as many people to the truth as I possibly can.

  • 8 years of darkness regarding stem cell research? Please explain.

  • Gordonlipper,

Look at the info on New England Journal. NO success has been found using embryonic stem cells. Infact the results have been horrific. Parkinson patients have ended up with skin and hair growing on their brains. See article from 2001. Private investors will not touch this research as they know it will have disastrous results. This effort is all about using tax dollars to further evil. I've done my homework, it's obvious you don't have a clue.

  • Gordonlipper,

I would never worship Obama. Adult SCR is indeed producing wonderful results. The past experiments with embyonic SCR have proven horrifc. God help YOU if what goes around comes around.

  • first step to bring america to the 21st century

  • It's about time. Progress!

  • How is it progress when science has repeatedly shown that using embryonic stem cells has not worked?

  • research = progress

  • Hitler "researched" the Jews.

  • Touché, but only if you consider embryos to be people. You obviously do...I obviously don't. I think this is what's called an impasse.

  • People and human are different, supposedly.

If you take the "personhood" argument, what's really the difference to anybody bellow the age of 7?

it may be hard to realize this, but we are really nothing more than a cell with more specializations. Every organ and its functions of the human being can be found in a cell. When a cell is stressed or injured, it signals the creation of tubes and walking protiens to bring food to repair, just as our brain does with blood.

    SO, what defines a person?

  • jacksonnrr, an embryo has to be destroyed at 5 days old in order to harvest stem cells. An embryo is a living human being in first stages of life. Thanks for your personal message. This type of research has produced no results so far, no GOOD results. Why do people insist on going down this useless path, when adult stem cell research is proving so promising and fruitful.

  • its easy... the embrios are already dead...they are still going to kill them... so if ghey are still going to die..then why dont they just use them to help other people

  • Hey any one who is against thing how many of you has a college degree in medicine. It seems like alot of doctors are happy about this. So doctors and scientist are happy and hicks and redneck religious freaks aren't. Gee who knows more. Don't tell them about Isaac Newton or they might be really pissed.

  • I wish ALL the ONES who oppose this end up with ONE OF THE DISEASES to see HOW IT FEELS. THEM AND THEIR KIDS.

  • Syphlix - What is your point? That we need to use embryonic stem cells? Cells that science has shown DON'T WORK? Science has shown that adult stem cells DO WORK. Get educated based on scientific fact and support the use of adult stem cells.

  • Umm... adult stem cells are not a blank slate capable of extraordinary change. Also, of the hundreds of thousands of frozen embryos destroyed every year b/c they cannot last forever, only 20 or so become snowflake babies.

  • If YOU or your KIDS had diabetes, MS etc would you say the same things????

  • Thank you,They say Obamas not doing anything, My Ass!!

  • Yes Syphlix, I would say exactly the same thing. "It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you might live as you please"

  • both embros and adult cells are needed to help stop diseases

  • No, embryonic stem cell research has proved horrific. There are 9 ADULT stem cell treatments at the moment, approved by the FDA.

Private investors have decided not to put any money into Embryonic stem cell research because the results have been disastrous. Embryonic SCR is not needed and a waste of lives and money.

  • We didn't need this ,There was already a break thru. back in December .Also Japan found a way to use regular skin cells. : o )

  • One has to ask why Obama wants to lift the ban on embryonic stem cells since they are useless now that the process to turn adult cells into stem cells has been perfected. Now it is possible for patients to make their own stem cells that wouldn't be recognized as foreign threat to their immunity systems as embryonic stem cells are. The only reason to lift the ban is for politics. The left is so frantic to disenfranchise the human rights of the pre-born they will do anything. It's sick!

  • XD.

  • Gee Ronfella. Those facts are completely wrong. Why do you think you can speak for scientists? Ask Nancy Reagan about stem cell research. She's much more aware than you are. Bottom line" all about your FREAKING religion, which I wish y'all would learn to actually embrace, instead of invent.

  • will this bring down teh pharmacy business?

  • So.... every time a woman has a period she's having an abortion?

  • you satanic christians opening yer mouths again? here's why you are satan's whores.... because any cures that come from research using stem cells from embryos, of which you are against, YOU WILL RUSH TO THE HOSPITAL TO GET IF YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONES NEED IT. If you REALLY believe against embryonic stem cell research, then you will let yourself and your family DIE instead of taking cures developed from embryonic stem cell research.

  • Maniac - as RonFella pointed out, adult stem cells have been found to WORK, while the repeated push to use embryonic stem cells has failed. Mr. Obama knows this and needs to apologize for lying to the public when he says this is about "restoring scientific integrity". Sorry Obama, this is about taking care of your abortion friends (i.e. Planned Parenthood). Science has spoken clearly on this and Obama is delibertately turning his back on scientific fact for personal gain.

  • XD.

  • People who are scientists, unlike yourself and your religious cadre, understand that we need to explore both types of stem cells. But, by all means, try and make your opposition sound like something besides religious fundamentalism! Like evolution, right?

  • Let's not forget the real reason stem cell research has been put on hold for so long... Two words: Religious Fanatics! Go Science!!!

  • I completely agree with you, iorixs. I am a student at Indiana University, and I just finished reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley. Out of lust for domineering, men seem want to usurp nature itself for personal gain and for inordinate ego. The medical professions seem to be filled with Dr. Frankensteins.

  • So the medical profession seems to be "filled with Dr. Frankensteins", BiteHunter? Gee, next thing you know they'll be wanting to take blood from one person and put it into another person claiming it will "save their life". Stupid ungodly scientists! You get the mob, I'll get the torches and pitchforks.

  • LOL. I do understand that saving lives can involve a lot of research to arrive at solutions, cures, managements. I just wish that researchers could be of more innovative daring than to fish for solutions among living "guinea pigs." Funny comment.

  • To be honest, I have a bigger problem with research on animals than on human embryos that would just be thrown away anyway.

  • that's sad.

  • I have a solution. Don't take all the stem cells on the embryos.

  • Aye. Well said.

  • Science it back! Yeah!!!

  • Sounds kinda like religion you people push on everyone/

  • Who is YOU PEOPLE? Ethnocentric racism lives through you, I see. Let's be real. The only reason stem-cell research abounds is not so much that there is a BELIEF that it can help, but so much that it is a red herring: a red herring to camouflage the lust for ethnocentric racist domineering through ABORTION. There is no empirical evidence that stem cell research is beneficial for human regeneration, jelly-making, tire lubrication, or hair gel. Get real bitches.

  • Exactly, bitehunter! Scientists should only study things they already know! Geez, YOU get real. How much science did you study in college that you don't even know what research is?

  • take it easy Slayer... pay attention, he's doing a really good job. You don't understand this yet but when everything recovers in the next ten years, and the laws change things will eventually change and become better for everyone. You will see, this man has saved your silly asses from a total absolute medical disaster in America. There are cures for everything, preventions for every disease etc. I feel rather hopeful.

  • You act like abortion is the only way to get stem cells. Ughh sheer ignorance these days.

  • All we are is cells anyway, what's wrong with this? Like if you just had your arm chopped off by your drunken ex-wife wielding an axe and someone handed you a new arm you wouldn't use it to flag a cab down to the hospital to have it attached?

  • same as abortion bullshit! this should have been passed long ago

  • What does Parkinson's do to a person?

  • Parkinson's is a chronic, degenerative disease of the mind, which means it has no cure (yet) and it just gets worse and worse as it moves along. It impairs motor function - rigidity, freezing of muscles, tremors, etc. If you want to know more, go to the Nat'l Inst. of Health's page on PD. My dad has it and this lift on the ban is GREAT news. This is using stem cells of embryos that would otherwise just be thrown away. The argument against has zero validity.

  • Dam, I'm sorry for your family and dad.

I hope this helps him and possibly millions more get "fixed" or treated!!!!!!!!

  • it slowly destroys their nerve cells as they age and get destroyed faster and faster as they grow

  • I think they should use stem cells it is ligit

  • this awesome
