Shouldn't that bell be ringing constantly? It only dings every so often, but I can hear a grinding noise, so I assume the thing that drives the hammer is working, but the hammer isn't making good contact with the bell, perhaps the bell needs to e adjusted?
That granding noise you hear is the sound of the gears in the coded pull station. The bell works as it should, as it's single-stroke - it's supposed to ding only once when current is applied to the bell. The pull station creates a mechanical relay coupled with the code the pull station does (4-2-1), and that's what the bell clacks out.
i already got my potter bell four days ago. I hooked it up and it sounds cool! But i have a little advice for you, dont screw it into wood unless thats your only option. Why? Because it wont sound as good as if you were to screw it on something else. By the way, what kind did you get?
No, it's a single-stroke bell. The striker only strikes the gong once after power is applied, and won't strike again until the power is disconnectred and reapplied again. However, in my bell's case, it rings once power is disconnected, unlike most single-stroke bells that ring once when the power is applied...
was the station coded?

@weatherdan882002 OK, now I understand, watching the video and reading your comments makes sense now. Thanks for clearing that up.

@Lachlant1984 That grinding noise is caused by the gears in the coded pull station.

is that thing trying to vibrate but keeps missing the bell?
