Second, no way. The first year he was with us he was tremendous, if the team wasn't in the struggle it was in those years we would have gone further. He was very good for us and the second year too. Everyone knows that the bounce and the last year wasn't stellar but just because of that you can't say he was the worst.

Hey bud..I agree with your comment his recent performances and statistics show that he has been mediocre at best. But I am not judging this guy on his recent success. He's the same goalie who was stealing games from Nabokov in San Jose. I don't know that if it was his groin injury or his low confidence that caused him to struggle, but he is indeed a good goalie. Lol, if you don't agree with me, you gotta agree that he has been playing very strong between the pipes recently.

Two good games recently after a terrible season and two so-so seasons, before that a decent season where he had no pressure on him. He's mediocre at worst, below average most of the time, and occassionally good. Definitely no potential to be a "star" in the league as you suggest. His save pctg over the last 2 seasons has been atrocious. He's never even achieved a .910 pctg in his entire NHL career. That would be the minimum cut-off, absolute minimum, for a "star" goalie in my opinion.

Vesku is married happily. Secondly, since Toskala is an embarrassingly weak goaltender teams have no incentive to exploit his injury. When Toskala starts a game it basically gives every team in the NHL a gimme.

all goalies go down to butterfly to stop a slap shot.. hands are quicker than the body.. by the time you can see it's a low shot, it's already too late to go down.. you're also supposed to challenge the shooter on slap shots.. a 31-year-old professional goalie knows what he's doing.. they have to keep playing toskala because he can actually win games, cujo and pogge can't.. what the leafs need is a solid backup who can win games.. flyers, sharks, preds, hawks.. all have a solid goalie tandem..

It demonstrates that they've allowed themselves to move before the shooter and it's amateur goaltending. Thirdly, toskala does not hold up as a starting goalie and his stats reflect that he's not only suited for a starting goalie but even as a backup goalie.

yes of course.. perhaps you could then explain how did he become a starter in san jose and toronto? his stats reflect a 116-70-21 record (nhl career) which make a .513 win percentage.. you could say he's pretty good for the money.. i've definitely seen worse.. toskala's career stats are right there with ed belfour's and felix potvin's.. sounds like a leaf goalie to me.. but i really couldn't care less anymore.. goalies are always the scapegoat in toronto.. even the good ones..
