Hehe, thats unlucky... But he's right it should be ok if kept wet. I made a small amount about a year ago and when it was wet t'was fine. About storing the I2, i also put it in a dark cold place to stop it subliming but i still lost loads of it and it turned grey, any idea why?
You added enough ammonia for it perhaps, but were they necessarily dissolved? Redissolving the stuff isn't easy given how reactive it is. Sure nothing precipitated when you did the reaction?
You should not do that in your kitchen, you could contaminate food and such.

is it also instable when it's frozen?

How do you place it on a piece of paper. won't explode?

When it's wet it's stable but when it's dry you know...

Umm.
I've had NI3 that selfignited when it was wet and under 2inches of water and 1inch kerosene, dark and cold...
Stable when it's wet?
No.
Stable ever?
No!

Yeah i know now....... weird though, i thought it was purple...

Well, it's vapors are purple. Maybe that's what you were noticing?

It has to be aqueous and in solution with ammonia for it to be stable. If any crystals are present, you risk having it explode.
DisposableInterloper 2 years ago
No crystals, I had enough amonia to disolve all the crystals, and then I added an extra 2 liters... =P
Still selfignited.

If it didnt undissolve in 45 hours, nope.
Wasnt much left of it in my pyrotechnics shed, I kinda made it so that it would blw up instead of my house =P

you can also stabilize it in heptane. it evaporates faster that way.
