I wonder where the 2.8% grade is along this line. I think Altamont is one of the highest points along the line, but I never travelled that far below Cumberland, would you know what the traffic volume is on the Mountain Sub? If it was greater than the Keystone Sub, then I would consider visiting there.
I didn't notice these comments until now. Sorry for the late response. As far as traffic is concerned on the Mountain Sub - well, it seems pretty steady everytime I'm there. Q316 and Q317 are daily mixed freights. There are usually quite a few coal trains that operate daily aswell as a couple locals in the Piedmont area. In a good day, I'd say that the Mountain Sub gets about 12 to 16 train movements. I just wait for something to head west from Cumberland, then chase it.
Yeah, it is surprisingly pretty hard to keep up with trains on the Mountain Sub between Cumberland and Keyser, considering traffic and the fact that trains go 50 mph (somehow). Glad you like it. :)

Great video, I enjoyed the chase of Q317 and it's power.

Unfortunately I am from northeastern Ohio, so I don't get down to Keyser too often.

Yeah, I was trying to get that cat with the train in the background, but unfortunately, it fled at the first site of the train. :)
