1800isbest. Check out my 165 vids of our Ruston on the derwent valley railway. Just rebuilt the engine. A bit smokey to begin with but running in and getting better now.
The Health and safety brigade have probably banned the use of a flaming rag now.... I'd think the easy start is ok given the situation i.e it's long period of inactivity as long as it's not a regular occurrence.
@GingerPhilG its ok just for once etc our ruston 165 wont even start now as we cant get any air pressure on it due to compressor problems :( does yours have its donkey pump fitted still ?
Wrong person mate - I've got nothing to do with trains and come here as a diesel fan as opposed to a train enthusiast. I think the problem with easy start in diesels is down to the volatility of the ether vs. that of the diesel. With the E-S burning that much easier and the compression in the diesels being so high, I think it combusts too early putting excessive strain on the rods etc and causing lower compression hence needing more easy start to start and hence the "addicition" thing.

She last pulled a train around 2009 or some where around there. We could use Faraday to haul brake van ries up the incline as we used to.
