  • 1800isbest. Check out my 165 vids of our Ruston on the derwent valley railway. Just rebuilt the engine. A bit smokey to begin with but running in and getting better now.

No need for easy start here.

  • easy start on a rushton very naughty they will get addicted to it

  • The Health and safety brigade have probably banned the use of a flaming rag now.... I'd think the easy start is ok given the situation i.e it's long period of inactivity as long as it's not a regular occurrence.

  • @GingerPhilG its ok just for once etc our ruston 165 wont even start now as we cant get any air pressure on it due to compressor problems :( does yours have its donkey pump fitted still ?

  • Wrong person mate - I've got nothing to do with trains and come here as a diesel fan as opposed to a train enthusiast. I think the problem with easy start in diesels is down to the volatility of the ether vs. that of the diesel. With the E-S burning that much easier and the compression in the diesels being so high, I think it combusts too early putting excessive strain on the rods etc and causing lower compression hence needing more easy start to start and hence the "addicition" thing.

  • We got one of those. Great motive power. Wish ours was an electric version though. Well done guys

  • Was that a can of Easy Start I saw .......

Hopefully not the normal way to encourage a start = surefire way to shorten an engines life coz they get addicted to it

  • Good to see the old gal running again. Takes me back ooh about 5 years.

  • She was last used aound 2009!

  • She last pulled a train around 2009 or some where around there. We could use Faraday to haul brake van ries up the incline as we used to.

  • OH MY GOD!!! Listen to the old donkey!! Wish i was there!! She will be pulling passengers to duffield before you know it!

  • @MrBenbo96 Not much chance of it pulling a passenger train unfortunately, not through train brakes.

  • Sounds good
