  • John Lennon himself said the Fabs stole the guitar & drum figure for IFF. Guitar notes aren't identical, but their rhythm is- Ringo switched the rim/tomtom to tomtom/rim, and it's nearly identical.

Also copped from this (as correctly stated below) is Rat Bat Blue, Moby Dick, and yet another: the Yardbirds' 'I'm Not Talking'- especially the intro! (Crash on the IV chord, crash on the root chord; drum pickup, guitar riff) Ironically, Jimmy Page had suggested that Beck replace Clapton! ♫

  • i wish you would- david bowie (73') sounds a lot like this as well

  • actually if you see the pentatonic at the fourth minor melodic harmony, you will find that the same riff will be entered at the swell on the frigian minor of the 27th mode which makes it to the opening bars of Rat Bat Blue by Deep Purple....

  • i don't see any song of these mentioned that copyied this one unless you consider the whole stile a big reunion of fakers...look all the songs of Little richard ,chuck berry, jerry lee lewis, early elvis, were all the same thing.but even being so predictable 3 chords ,each song had its own identity to me.and if there's a guy who influenced more than anyone hard rock singingwas little richard...,gospel,energetic ,shocking, loud, high voltage.first headbenger without any intention LOL great guy

  • Yes, yes. That's why they are the 4th biggest music act ever. Its why their riffs are the most iconic of all time and eveyrone knows them. Its why people have sung their folk tunes, screamed their rock tunes and grooves to their blues tunes for decades. Its why countless bands (G 'n' R, Aerosmitth, Joe Bonamassa, etc.) have copied their stylistic and visual image impeccably.

    Yes, Zeppelin is trash.

  • he sounds like Ray Charles :O

  • blah blah blah zeppelin copies this and copies that...but you can't deny how much heavier zeppelin's riffs are.. and that, in my opinion, makes them better and more exciting.

  • @beau96080 Zeppelin is trash

  • ; Led Zeppelin's Moby Dick was plagiarized from this.

  • After 1:55 he does several vocal wails that sound very much like what Robert plant would later do in Led Zeppelin.

  • this man is a genious... he opened the way to I feel fine, (the beatles) moby dick, the girl I love (led zeppelin), rice pudding (jeff beck)

  • This reminds me of 'I'm Not Talkin'" by the Yardbirds more than anything. The Beatles 'I Feel Fine' is it's own thing altogether. It's obvious we have a lot of non-musicians commenting here ...

  • @vampyros1 i think this reminds people of i feel fine because of the octave leap at the beginning followed by the pentatonic movement, so basically i agree with u

  • @ledzelda9 & Vampyros. If you don't think there's any similarity between this and I Feel Fine, then i question YOUR musicianship, Vampyros. Not only are the riffs similar (not exact, the Beatles and other influenced bands aren't that stupid), but almost more important is the rhythm analogy. Listen to the tempo and the type of drumbeat (including the ride cymbal signature) played here. Now listen to what Ringo does in IFF. And for you others, Page rarely copied - its PLANT who borrowed

  • listen to link wrays the black widow and tell me the riff isnt almost identical

  • also a lick that ended up in 19th nervous breakdown at :33...

  • wow, that's I Feel Fine but 3 years before the Beatles did it. amazing how this song never got any recognition... a shame really.

  • this sound like:

day tripper, i feel fine (beatles) and moby dick (led zeppelin)

  • 0:33 sounds like day tripper

  • wow that is indeed very close to 'I Feel Fine'

  • I wonder if "I feel fine" and "moby dick" would even exist without this song roflmao

  • @stonegrooved

ya actually that was George who composed 'I Feel Fine' being the riff man..

amazing this tune spawned so many of those greats across the board and went unoticed for so long .. allman bros 'one way out' also... bobby parker is house band at madam's organ in DC.. still amazing

  • @botaduck No, Lennon wrote "I Feel Fine" including the guitar riff.

  • led zeppelin really ripped off alot of songs lol

  • moby dick by zeppelin!!

  • Guitar riff reminds me of Link Ray.

  • What'd say - Ray Charles is similar.

  • This song iinspired the Zeppelin song Moby Dick.

  • listening now to your, shine me up.

    great tune man........Tim.

  • If you can't feel that, you're dead.

  • can't help it, no matter how much this number might be it makes me think of Ray Charles

  • I feel fine riff! lol just change some notes

  • Not even close to "I Feel Fine"

  • JOHN HENRY BONHAM, MOBY DICK!

  • i hate how i mostly hear people ragging on led zeppelin as the worlds greatest "cover band" but no one seems to want to mention how much shit the beatles and other great bands have ripped off. if history shows all the great bands rip off from previous great artists its probably the secret to why they all became so good

  • @MrBrownstone1994: You're right, it's not something to be hypocritical about, because every musician / songwriter is in some way influenced by who and what came before him, mostly because of covering, in the first place. Not everybody uses these influences, ideas that creative, catchy and original as Led Zeppelin did, though. Beside that, they often acknowledged the (black) artists they were influenced by and so gave them the credits and publicity they wouldn't have gotten otherwise at the time.

  • IT´S VERY NICE SING PARKER IS VERY GOOD MUSICIAN

  • this is pointed ouyt in Led Zeppelin sites, wikipedia, and the ALbert Goldman book on John Lennon.

  • no dought!! beatles, i feeel fine was stolen from bobby!!!

  • @tommieparch Well it was certainly influenced by this song, as JL has said himself , but Lennons is different enough to be original on its own, im a guitar player myself and they are quite different to play imo.

  • A ton of people have mentioned songs that imitated this riff, but no one mentioned Break on Through to the Other side

  • @irishninja822 i dont hear the doors song in this...they did quote a lot of jazz though

can you point it out to me please?

  • Thanks for the support......Guitar Blues Legend Bobby Parker

  • beautiful

  • DAY TRIPPER & I FEEL FINE -THE BEATLES

    MOBY DICK-LED ZEPPELIN

  • @MichaelHansenFUN I don't hear it that way. Totally different licks from "I Feel FIne".

  • The first bass line I ever learnt. Fantastic.

  • Lennon freely admitted copping this, The Beatles played this song as a cover in their early shows.

  • one way out allman brothers anyone?

  • Comment removed

  • @lujas10

    He openly admitted doing so.

  • there is some similarities in parts of the song but not the full song

  • That little fill at 0:33 is the birth of "Day Tripper"

  • Both, I feel dick and Moby fine were taken from this song. Also, Led Zep and Allman brothers took a lot from this song. John Lennon loved this song, it's in some sound bites on here somewhere.

  • I feel fine and moby dick together

  • Wow..."I Feel Fine" from Beatles is very similar...

  • Bobby Parker is a hidden musical treasure. Thank goodness he's being discovered again by a new generation. So many artists have been influenced by this guy. Carlos Santana, one of my absolute favorite guitarists and a genius in his own right, worships Parker. Bobby you're a total badass. This riff was ripped off by so many "rock legends" it would be funny if Bobby's contribution hadn't been left unacknowledged for so long. He deserves the credit.

  • I Feel Fine :)

  • Interesting comments keep them coming..........Guitar Blues Legend Bobby Parker

  • I prefer the SDG's version: Winwood is a much better singer than Parker.

  • I love all subsequent songs that derived from this riff but I would love to hear this song in its entirety in hard rock fashion. It would kick ass

  • This is as John Lennon once said "the most ripped off lick in history"

The Beatles, One Way Out, Rat Bat Blue, Moby Dick. This may not be the original song from where the riff was stolen. This may be stolen from someone also. If this was the original Zep would have probably used the lyrics too, it would have been easier for them.

  • The 3 people who disliked this song better watch their step.

  • + intro of "Rat Bat Blue" by Deep Purple

and it sounds a litte like "What I'd Say" by Ray Charles altough Ray Charles recorded that one in 1959 so maybe Bobby Parker was influenced by Ray Charles himself. Wouldn't be a shame ;)

  • @saemikneu true true, you can hear it in the yardbirds tune "i wish you would" too. at least something really really similiar!

  • i feel fine and moby dick........Break on trough (to the other side) is sounds like Watch your step too. but, only the begining.

  • very good indeed. i just wanna dance all day long.

  • good riff i can hear where he got moby dick from

  • Hey yo, listen carefully, Led Zeppelin used this riff in "Moby Dick" and "The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair".

  • @Leodn No, it just is the classic style of riff, it probally inspired moby dick and the girl i love... but there are many that sound like this

  • @TasOMW This riff inspired the riff in The Beatles song "I Feel Fine" and it really sounds like the riff in "Moby Dick", and Jimmy Page was a fan of Parker's.

  • @23Tomay23 Yes, Jimmy Page heard this song. And "Rat Bat Blue" by Deep Purple is the same riff so Ritchie Blackmore heard it too. I thiink

  • Magnifica.

  • Very good i LOVE IT I have listen too Manfred Mann before i love MF but this is so COOOOOL

  • This quote says it all: "He's one of the few remaining guitarists on this planet who can pierce your heart and soothe your soul. He inspired me to play guitar." --Carlos Santana

Not only join but make sure and share Bobby Parker's face book fan page with all your blues friends. FB fan page: guitar blues legend bobby parker

  • i just heard john lennon praising this song from a 1974 interview. and he told about using the riffs in Beatles songs. can digital copies of this version be bought anywhere? gotta have it. thanks.

  • thanks for posting.................Bobby

  • Great rocking number! I think the Yardbirds used the riff in one of their songs too.

  • Yes the first few notes in rhythm and pitch are the same as Moby Dick. Its obvious Page had influence from this song. I hear I Feel Fine much more than Moby Dick in this though, since its the exact rhythm in both.

  • wow thats the moby dick riff lol

  • Sensational, how a 23 year old BEATLE John Lennon worked out on the basic of a very good riff an outstanding and excellent classic song I FEEL FINE !

THE BEATLES -most creative ,talented band with humor and real charisma in modern music history - it's only my opinion !

    Nevertheless I like this song.

  • @powerbeatle This song was written before the Beatles

  • Rat Bat Blue by Deep Purple ))

This riff is used by many!!

  • @z603dauren Good call, Moby Dick by Led Zep is another song

  • @funkjunction

but the riff is based on it.

I Feel Fine, Moby Dick and Rat Bat Blue used it.

    There are more I think.

  • @saemikneu Led Zeppelin are stealers.

  • @saemikneu This record came out in 1966, "I Feel Fine" in late 1964.

  • @spinalcrackerbox No watch your step is from the year 1961...

  • Maybe it was reissued in 1966 after the success of I feel fine? It definitely came out in 1961 but wasn't a hit. John freely admitted to using it as the basis for I feel fine. Years later a jukebox was discovered, once owned by John, with Watch your step and other songs that influenced him on it. Bobby Parker in turn admitted that Watch your step was influenced by the Ray Charles song What'd I say! It's all on youtube if you want to hear for yourself. Thanks. Love, Love, Love (It's all you need)

  • woooow what a song!

  • "He's one of the few remaining guitarists on this planet who can pierce your heart and soothe your soul. He inspired me to play guitar." --Carlos Santana

  • ATTENTION Bobby Parker Fans!! Check Out **NEW** 2010 MUSIC VIDEO Produced for "GUITAR BLUES LEGEND" Bobby Parker @ my channel YouTube.com/StarPowerAlbum...ENJOY!!!!!:-)) R-luv

  • Thanks for posting this.

Sorry, TRUEkingofROCK, there is no album, just this single. The 'b' side is great, also. I get the impression that Mr Parker was somewhat difficult to work with. Certainly Mike Vernon of Blue Horizon thought so! Which is a shame, because he is a fantastic talent.

    Best wishes from the U.K.

  • Well ....yes ...John Lennon really took a lot of this for "I feel fine". Not only the guitar riff but also the rhythm. Amazing.

  • @JohnLennon100 There are countless songs with this groove/rhythm - and endless variations on the guitar riff - I don't think John Lennon lifted "I feel fine" from "watch your step". I always liked this record a whole lot and feel like I can praise it without having to slag off The Beatles.

  • @slideharp1 and led zeppelin's "moby dick"

  • the girl I love has long black wavy hair!!!!

  • Great stuff!

I bought it 1961 and just loved that guitar intro.

  • Out of my hundreds of Blues CD's & LP's i keep picking up the same two CD's by Bobby Parker.."Shine Me Up" & "Bent Out Of Shape". I just can't get enough of that PURE soulful voice and smooth, accurately unique guitar work. What Parker has is HIS alone..many have stolen ideas, even Robert Plant has said so. Bobby even makes James Brown sound square! (sorry to JB fans)

  • This cut is world class. I wanna hear more of Bobby Parker from 1961.

perhaps a Bobby Parker Lp from '61?

    Must feed my ears!

    Visa!

  • Really COOL !

  • The guitar riff makes it.

  • One of my Top 50, bought at Music City Records in Berkeley. Remember? I was that white kid.

  • Watch your Step infuencio a John lennon en el tema I Feel Fine

  • To me the six-note riff on 0:33 on this song is probably where Lennon took the inspiration for his riff on Daytripper. The notes are identical just played slower and a few octaves down on Daytripper.

  • that part also sounds like the Stones "19th Nervous Breakdown" riff before the chorus

  • Of course, this song is definitely known as the source of the "I Feel Fine" riff. Does anybody know of the sources for the riff on "Ticke to Ride" and "Day Tripper?" I once knew those sources but have forgotten them. However, I remember thinking, "Oh, my God...the riff is changed slightly, but there it is..."

  • Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin copied this song. They definetly rock it.

  • @RevisingPerfection Thats what I love about led zeppelin they copied a song then added something incredible and great to it

  • The problem with some Beatles fans is that they assume everbody copies them whilst they are above such things. Obviously not.

  • Well, many artists borrow (and sometimes blatantly use without permission) from others. The opening line of "Come Together" was ripped from a line in Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me", as well as the basic melody (somewhat). Doesn't mean that they're not BOTH great songs.

The thing about being a true fan is that one should be able to be critical of what one is a fan of when it's warranted, like you said some aren't. I agree.

  • melody wise...somwhat? ..i would say very slightly if at all . "You Can't Catch Me" was above average for 57 ect but come together .had so many things going for it. and i know lennon got the inspiration from it.he agreed to do the rockn roll album of chucks song..dont think chuck had a case at all....the parker riff being more of pinched material by lennon..which parker pinched from ray charles what id say...its all good

  • and i hear the lifting alot...if you play mc cartneys 1975 listen man said backwards...the ending""the wonder of it all baby"" it sounds like earth wind fire ..1978 "september'' in the chorus part a bit.many melodies have come from backward ripping of music...just saying..

  • Oh the Beatle song more like based it on Bobby Parker version but it's different and the melody is different also. Moby Dick is an outright lifting of 'Watch Your Step".

  • I bought the orig in the US and its V Tone

  • Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Am I the only to hear Ray Charles, "What I'd Say"? That's what I Say.

  • Inspired John Lennon? I'm sorry. I'm a Beatles fan and it sounds like a direct rip off of the riff and beat.

  • well, then as a beatles fan, you should know that "i feel fine" came out 2 years after this song was released

  • Gods Tights and Tutu this is GOOD!!

  • and thats way

    led zeppelin sucks

  • I'd never heard of this song or the singer, but just today read in a Beatles biography that it was one of John Lennon's favourite songs, and inspired him when writing 'I Feel Fine'. That's what's so marvellous about YouTube - it's amazing what gems you can find on here!

  • thanks for someone FINALLY putting the full version of this song online! THANK YOU, SERIOUSLY.

  • One Way Out - Moby Dick, yes those could be considered pretty blatant uses of this riff. BUT, I Feel Fine by The Beatles, if no-one mentioned that song to me I could listen to this forever and never hear The I Feel Fine riff. Influenced John - yes, Stolen by John - No Way. The I Feel Fine riff is a riff all on it's own.

  • yeah, but if you can't hear the influence without somebody pointing it out you don't have much of an ear for music.

  • What I like about the song is how it has a good riff, but it is a fairly general one that makes it easy to see how it was adapted by Page, Lennon, and others.

  • Led Zeppelin-Moby Dick

    Beatles-I Feel Fine

    Deep Purple-Rat Black Blue

    Allman Brothers-One Way Out

  • HOW right you are and those of us born and bred on these bands again don't know their (usually negro) debts.

    Thanks

  • Yeah definitely for I Feel Fine. I can hear it.

  • Great track! The flip, Steal Your Heart Away, is also another gem!!!

  • Hi theyoungharris

You're so right! I do believe that Bobby Parker never made a better record than this. If he has, I haven't heard it. Then again, most people have not made a better record than this!

I had the 45 on the U.K. Sue label but this is the first time i've seen a V-Tone copy.

And yes, olverdados, Steve Winwood sang and played this very well on the Spencer Davis 'Second Album'.

    Thanks for posting this.

    Best wishes

  • Second that request! Please.

  • moby dick!

  • Rat Bat Blue by Deep Purple; hey face it, this riff was a Motha!!!!

  • Yeah, a classic record. Another Brit record that clearly "pinched" from this was The Yardbirds' arrangement of Mose Allison's "I'm Not Talkin'." The Spencer Davis Group did a good, quite faithful cover of this as well, but nothing beats the original.

  • Hello Fans

Bobby Parker here I want to say thank you for all your support feel free to drop me a line anytime

  • Hi Bobby, Just like to say sorry about those people here who can't get past who stole your riff most, and didn't even say hello! I put my bit further down the page so I won't repeat it, except to say, your song is key to getting people jiving in the aisles at my gigs. Thank You.

  • Right on Groover the song is a stormer 'nuff said !!

  • Hello Fans

Bobby Parker here I want to say thank you for all your support feel free to drop me a line anytime

  • One Way Out of All Man Brothers Band+

  • Zepplin Stole the riff in Moby Dick

  • The great bridge between "What'd I Say" and "I Feel Fine".

  • beatles - i feel fine. john was inspired by this song! thanks for sharing

  • as well as led zeppelin for moby dick

  • led zeppelin claimed they wrote this riff though so its considered plagarism

  • Could you post the flip side, "Steal Your Heart Away"? The Moody Blues covered it as their very first UK single, but I've never heard the original!

  • i feel fine

  • Day Tripper!!!

  • nice

  • allman brothers; one way out

  • i hear you

  • For all you idiots who say page and lennon stole this riff, it is the fucking blues! The blues are all the fucking same notes and progressions. You can argue that any blues song sounds like any other blues song.

  • ha ha!!

    well said Jeff!

jacksquirrel ( about 4 below) hit it square on the jaw too!!

    Lee

    Liverpool Mods

  • i don't know if that's the best way to describe this... page and lennon were indeed inspired by this specific riff and have said so. the issue is that the original line is taken as a basis for the famous zeppelin and beatles riffs and altered slightly so that it fits the respective new songs better, and this is something that is both entirely acceptable and an extremely common practice in blues and rock and roll music. there is a NAME for this sort of thing: it's called a "standard". very simple

  • jeffbebe. Rubbish. Music isn't just notes; it's also the sequence of the notes, the amount of time each note lasts. You can make up a hundred different-sounding blues riffs. This and Lennon's are identical - apart from the ingenious high 4th and major 3rd Lennon uses to convert the riff into a myxolydian scale.

  • @jeffbebe123 Till some point you're right, but this riff its too specific, even using the blues pentatonic, its too caracteristic ,its not a generic blues note/chord progression.I'm not shure bout Page and Lennon, but Blackmore certeinely stole this riff... it's totally the same...not similar.Blues really have the same cord progression, scales etc...but not note by note in the same tempo.Ripp off no doubt.PEACE!

  • Anyway! This is my all time fav 45. Superb riff, troaring R&B vocals / lyrics, blistering sax break. Everyone was clearly having ball recording it. i found it covered by Dr. Feelgood on Malpractice mid 70's, and it ALLWAYS goes down a storm with my band and at jams. Much respect due. Did he ever make another?

  • I don't think Led Zep made a mistake stealing their music, but they were thieves in stealing the credit.

  • I see it as:

Bobby sues Beatles for 80% of the guitar riff.

Ray Charles sues both Bobby and the Beatles for 100% of the feel/beat/vibe.

Some 125 year old blues guy's sues Ray, Bobby and the Beatles for using the chord progression.

  • I also heard that this was where ZEppelin 'ripped off' Moby Dick...

    I'm not so sure though.

    It's definitely similar.

but there're only twelve notes in music.

And the blues follows the same progression.

You can't say this is similar enough to Zeppelin's can you?

I defintely here I Feel Fine more than I hear Moby Dick.

  • wow, i have always loved I Feel Fine, thinking..."damn what an original Lennon feel and grove, amazing" only to find out he copped it off the black man lol... he did change some notes but the basic beat, and feel is the same. This guy had a right to sue in my opinion. It's a simple lick, but still, people should give credit where it's due, I've been ripped off and it's not funny. i won't go into that on Youtube.

  • look over to your right and click on bobby parker's pic....lennon comes right out saying he used the riff...i always loved i feel fine, and i love this too. john didn't hide it! being copied by the beatles is a damn honor, but agreed, Bobby should have got more credit.

  • sorry for all the duplicates...i thought they weren't going through but i see comments are "pending approval???" hmmm

  • its kind of like 19th nervous breakdown by stones, but i keep hearing moby dick and to a lesser extent, i feel fine

  • Yeah, Jimmy Page and John Lennon both stole this...

    Love all three anyway.

  • yeah jimmy page definitely stole this riff for moby dick

  • And he used it for The Girl I love She Got Long Black wavy Hair

  • John Lennon said he stole this songs guitar riff for "I Feel Fine." Anyway, great song!

  • Ya lol..

  • Great tune great taste!
