  • Yes the procedure you describe is correct for a percentage of pictures, as each painting is different you cannot use a standard mix for every picture. sorry i do not have a photo of the painting finished to post on Youtube as the customer instructed.

  • The discoloured varnish on oil paintings is usually removed using 50% acetone/50% white spirit on a cotton bud. Only a tiny area at a time is cleaned and much care has to be taken to ensure that no pigment is removed, or the painting will be stripped. Please can you post a picture of the finished result?

  • @CharlotteinWeimar

there are no standard cleaning products (or standard mixtures). Doing so can ruin your painting. Why is it so difficult for people to understand that cleaning paintings is very difficult and risky? How come it is so difficult to understand that such cleaning jobs should only be entrusted to qualified conservators-restorers? Please do not risk damaging your paintings. Consult a professional paintings conservator-restorer

  • Dog Gone!

  • Is this how restoring a painting is done. Looked like the painting was being destroyed by erasing the dog.

  • Yes it is cleaning off dirty varnish revealing the white coat of the painted dog.

  • I'd like to know what solution is being used. Information please!

  • I really wish I knew what was happening here...
