I think this "14 position" thing is what I learned, back when I was trying to learn to play jazz on my own. I don't think I ever learned the first few systems. I just never thought of it not as "positions 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.", but rather as Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, etc.
I have not been watching for long but notice your hand position. Why is that the correct position? I also notice you don't have those long spider fingers.your fingers are more like mine, kinda stubby for a guitar player,no offence intended, but is that the reason for the hand position?
@pebberbrown And that's the reason for the position.Obviously it allows allot of quickness,You sure crawl up and down the neck. The live video is very cool.
Personal insults aren't very constructive. Bebop isn't about scales anyway. You would be better off learning ideas based on stacked thirds, fourths and fifths. Joe Henderson, Joe Farrell, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Herbie etc. take groups of intervals systematically through a progression. On a guitar, you can do that by sweep or hybrid picking ideas up and down the neck on groups of adjacent strings. Al DiMeola? That guy has nothing to do with jazz. Try Pat Metheny, Wolfgang Muthpiel, Birelli
3 NPS for bebop? Nahhhhh.... Bebop is non-guitaristic and 3NPS is 100% guitaristic. Bebop phrases dont flow so well with rigid 3nps patterns. Go ahead and post a video to show us all what you so expertly are talking about.
The point is that you can visualize the neck in three notes per string fingerings without playing the scales up and down in that way. You could play ideas with one or two notes on each string...aware of the others without playing them. I'm quite sure Frank Gambale sees things this way.
What is it that makes you so sure about what he "sees' on the fingerboard. You act like you are some kind of expert yet you have nothing to back it up with in terms of any videos posted.
Gambale demonstrates that for a good portion of the Monster Licks and Speed Picking video. Allan doesn't have "credentials" in terms of formal training, but we all acknowledge he's one of the best in the world. I may or may not be an expert, but your videos demonstrate that you are probably not. There are lots of guys wanking away playing scales up and down without developing any ideas through chord progressions. We have nothing more to say to each other. Best of luck to you...
Oh yeah I forgot that I am not an expert. Thanks for reminding me. I guess 43 years of study and playing didn't help me post 260+ videos and create over 4000 PDF lesson files. I guess the videos demonstrate that I am just making all this shit up as I go right? Just random noise right? Well Mr. Armchair Critical Expert, I am glad to know that you have nothing more to say. The only "wanking" done here is by YOU.
This isn't ahead of it's time. The point is that he formally studied all of the fretboard visualization systems thoroughly and these videos explain the advantages and drawbacks of each one. The caged system has been around forever. Three notes per string can be effective for bebop IF you know the other six modes for each scale. Then you wouldn't have to jump around like crazy to other positions.
Man! Look at this, I can not believe my fucking senses, why so few page views and no comments? Its like the jewel in the Nile, one big fucking diamond man!
Holy shit man. This is like Star Wars and George Lucas, way ahead of its time.
I swear someday I will come back here and understand this video.
