well, more real road bikes for me i guess. i just built a 10 pound road bike for little more than $1000 but i can't do any tricks. i guess i'm lame. i know i'm not popular.
I've always wondered...is the whole bicycle scene in Portland just a teenager group thing. Or are there different aged people riding bikes around the city?
no no noo, there are all ages out there. I have seen people from 10 to 60 riding all kinds of bikes. Yesterday i saw a 60ish old man and his wife both riding fixed gears and loving it. And along side them was a dude riding a 21 speed road bike. The ages are all over and thats why i love the bike scene in portland. I loove my fixie but I also love my 10 speed road bike. The fixie is more fun and practical, but some times i like to rock my 10 speed.
Practicality is the lighter weight (from lack of brake(s) and gears). And the complete control of your bike. If you ever ridden a fixed gear before you would know how it feels to be in complete control of your speed but you clearly are a BIKE SNOB.
hey, i use m fixie to commute to work, fuck you. I have to bike 15 miles each way every day so it is deffenently a commute. The reason I have a fixie is because it is a great way of helping my torn knee muscels rebuild. With my old road bike it did little to help the pain in my knees, but my fixie is helping perfectly. I am also NOT a hipster and did not make my bike because everyone is doing it, my friend had one for racing at a veledrom, and i rode it and got addicted.
portland needs to be more organized with this stuff. where are the portland fixed gear riders? was home for like 2 weeks and saw a whole bunch riding around by themselves.
did y'all notice but all of the Macaframa crews are here!

Why don't people just stop hating on fixed gear bikes and start hating on gas guzzling SUVs instead. Idiots

@zybanmongo
HOW IS IT MORE PRACTICAL?
THEY HAVE NO BRAKES!!!!
'Fixed gears' are for indoor racing on track.
Whats the practicality? being able to cycle backwards? or bunny hopping on one wheel?
surely a pogo stick would be more PRACTICAL for that?
Face it you ride a fixie because you think they're TRENDY and you want to FIT IN

I hate how so many people in Portland are jumping on the Fixie bandwagon to look cool. Hipsters are not cyclists, or even commuters. DIE FIXSTERS.
