  • Lovely recipe! I made it and it turned out really good. Anyhow, I've been seen some recipes in which people leave the yogurt for 8 hours. Do you think it''d turn out too sour, have you ever tried it, Manjula?

  • Thank you very much Manjula! I have enjoyed so many of your videos. You always do a wonderful job explaining and showing your process. I've never made yogurt homemade before but will definitely be trying now that I see how easy it is.

  • Thank you! I'm sure I can do this!

  • Thanks a lot manjula ji for replying..

I tried & made a nice DAHI at home only thing that I didn't like was it was sticky somewhat like the consistency of batter.

Could you tell me what could be the reason.

However I'm going to try it out again. Thanks again.

  • Hi Manjula ji can you please tell us how much is 1 packet starter because I got it in bigger box.

So if you can please tell me how many teaspoon or tablespoon starter to add.

    Thank you

  • @GD2810

If you are making the yogurt with 4 cups use 1 tablespoon of starter.

  • @Manjulaskitchen

hi mam how to make non pasteurized yogurt

  • thank you.

  • can i use the yogurt from store as starter instead ?

  • @FaadumoArdo Sorry that will not work.

  • @Manjulaskitchen ok i hear you

  • @Manjulaskitchen I tried it with store bought yoghurt and it worked

  • @FaadumoArdo can, no prob :)

  • @FaadumoArdo yes you can i do it all the time so dont believe her she probably doesnt know

  • @FaadumoArdo it works fine my mom makes it all the time. if you use full cream milk it even comes with loves yummy layer of cream on the top.....i think it taste better wen u mak it with old yoghurt rather than starters...:)

  • @loveearoma Thank you

  • @FaadumoArdo I had a yoghurt maker and the starter was a plain yoghurt...I'm sure it would

  • @bowler8 Thank you i will try

  • Hello Aunty, I just Wanted to know is there any thing else i can use if i don't have culture/starter? ... because i an't find culture anywhere :/

  • @shAnaSh92 perhaps probiotics from pharmacy? or plain yogurt from the store?

  • I would suggest rather covering into blanket or sheet just use any hot pot(usualy we use for making food hot for long time) put milk into it it should not be very hot ...just pput ur finnger and check if it is warm add 2-3 spoon of curd in it and put it for 1-2 hour(dont leave for long time or else it would be very sour....

  • @amitkatiyar2000 the need to cover the milk is to insulate it duting the process. In summer, if you have a hot area in your home, you can leave it uncovered. I usually leave it on top of the fridge, & it works just fine. Leaving it inside the oven works too, you don't need to warm it.

  • Dear Aunty, Thank You very much for this video. My yogurt always turns out to be of runny consistency. i will try ur technique. Please tell me which brand pan you are using for hetaing the milk on stove top? Which store did you get it from here in US? Please let me know. I have seen you use this pan for many of your recipes. This looks like a fine utensil to do frying also, without wasting a lot of oil, which remains in the end.

  • Thanks so much for the recipe. For those asking, you dont need the powdered starter. You just need 2 - 3 tblsp of yogurt mixed with about 2 tblsp of room temperature milk. Once the boiled milk comes to the required temperature of 115-120 (I did about 104F), just pour in the yogurt in and follow the rest of her directions. Bon appetit!

  • your so sweet auntie Manjula thank you for all your hard work, do you know zac poonen? you would like him, .. I am praying for you,, I love you.

  • Thank you very much for the upload. very much appreciated.

  • hi manjula di plz tell what is the diffrence between corn flour and corn starach

  • wat if u dont have the starter what can u use u can use the fresh yogurt left over

  • Can sugar be added to homemade yogurt to sweeten it please? Thank you kindly.

  • Hello Manjula, how long can you keep the 2 tbsp or yoghurt you put aside for culture?

  • Hello Aunty jee, does Walmart sell starter???

  • Hello Auntyji....Why do we need yogurt starter.....cant we make the dahi without starter ?

  • @rashmikumar if you have some plain yoghurt you can use that as your started about 2 tablespoons to 4 cups of milk. hope that helps

  • what is starter dear

  • Thank you Minjula. I was told using buffalo milk would yield rich and much healthier yogurt. Have you tried it?

  • Hi Manjula jee,

What was that powder which u were putting the yoghurt on?

  • @vlema94i I used dry yogurt starter, you can buy from amazon.

  • @Manjulaskitchen thanks alot aunty...i love your jelabi recipy, but i guess i have to leave dieting and get ready for put weight hehe

  • Hey its DAHI (CURD) right and you need not worry about powder you can use curd for making new yogurt as per her .....

  • You Are Awesome! Thank you very much! All your videos are a great!

  • Namaste Auntie! I love your recipes and your videos are very informative and entertaining as well.

  • Hello!

I have a homemade yogurt recipe on my channel too ;)

    Saludos!!

  • My friend showed me to put the warm milk in a thermos flask. This keeps it warm without a blanket. Very good video. :-)

  • @dewalii I bought it from amazonDOTcom a while back...the brand is Salton. It was really cheap as well...i think it was $14.99 :) You may find yogurt makers at health food stores as well...i just saw one at a natural/organic health food store for about $34.99 :)

  • @pathu32 oh, and the one have is 1 quart...not the one that comes with 7 glass jars...

  • hello manjula! i love your films! can i use the starter with soy or almond milk? using non-dairy milk instead of cows milk? thank you!

  • Namaste Manjula! Thank you so much for all your recipes. I have told all my friends too!

  • Manjula madam..It is so nice preparation...Do you have any Konkani recipe's?

  • I use Danon plain yogurt as a starter or Trader Joe's plain Greek yogurt. They work well. I put the yogurt inside a small cooler with blankets around it for insulation. You need the warmth to culture the yogurt bacteria so it gets happy and firms up the milk. I usually bring my temperature down to about 100 F, for a really smooth yogurt. Can't wait tp try her version at a higher temperature for both boiling and cooling.

  • @MarvyLoves you can use any "live" yoghurt as a starter. Heating the milk is a tradition in India, or so I am led to understand - you should not use "raw" milk. If you are using bought milk, that is already pasteurized, therefore heating to approx 30-35°C is enough.

If you have the luck and get fresh milk, you should heat it to 80°C, and leave it to cool while sealed. A good tip is to leave the spoon you are going to use in the heated milk, or sterilize it separately. Sterilize the dish too, ofc

  • For those in cold climates: I make yogurt using Erivan brand yogurt as a starter (available in healthfood stores) Boil milk and cool to 110 F then stir in 3 TBSP of the yogurt. Pour milk into a well cleaned mason jar (I use the quart size with a plastic screw cap) Wrap a heating pad and set on low heat for 3-10 hrs depending on how sour you want it. Keeps for a few weeks in the fridge.

  • does she ever answers back?

  • Why do you cover it with the sheet? Does it have to be kept in the dark to develop?

  • @lcooke you need to cover it, in order to prevent other "hungry" bacteria from developing in the yoghurt culture :) you want only your friendly ones working on the milk.

  • Can we use store bought yougurt as a starter ???

  • @rahul6string yes. Make sure the yogurt is unflavored.

  • Are there any recipes for women who are in their early stages of pregnancy?

  • I have been making yogurt for a couple of years now, and use the very same technique. It is just that easy! Yogurt has also helped my sister maintain good blood sugar levels (she's diabetic). We always have it on hand, and make a new batch every other day. Thank you for sharing this recipe with everyone!

  • I boil Milk in Microwave....its quick and easy.

  • thanks a lot reminded me of my grandmother who always preferred upon the use of mud utensils especially the one made of black clay...i still use that to make yogurt,....thanks a lot auntyji for the recipe.

  • I'd really love to try this. Can you tell me where to buy the starter? Also....does this taste different from store bought yogurt?

  • You can put the bowl into a supermarket refrigeration shopping bag or any cooler bag to keep yoghurt warm. This way you can make large amounts in big pots.

  • I bought a yogurt maker a while ago...it makes it so easy because it keeps the yogurt warm :) I also like to leave it out longer because I LOVE sour yogurt...especially with khichdi :)

  • Awesome!

This is a very good recipe! I can't wait to make my own!

  • you can buy it online on amazon.com ..just type yogurt starter culture in the search on the website.

  • Can you tell me where you ordered your online starter please?? thanks!

  • @Gerene37 you can use a "non flavored yogurt", it have lactobaciles.

  • @Gerene37 You can use 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt to start it. Just make sure it has live culture - most do these days. I've been doing it this way for months. I just keep a little left over from my last batch to make the next.

  • thank you so much I always want to make yogurt

  • looks so fresh and yummy. wish I knew where to buy 'starter'. I look around. :D Thanks Manjula....

  • can you use store bought yogurt instead of starter?

  • @kenokiatgmail : the problem with store bought yoghurt is that it makes your new yoghurt stringy (when u take a spoonful it doesn't come out like a piece instead there is a string that drips) and the texture also varies. But a lot of people do use it.

  • i love homemde yogurt my mom buys full fat bulk style yogurt instead of using the starter and goes through the exact same steps u used to this and at the end she adds the bulk style yogurt and it works really well...but id like to see if i can buy started somewhere too and give this a try!

  • Looks delicious. Can you use some of the store-bought yogurt to use as a starter (like Pavel's brand or something like that) instead of the special starter?

Also, how long does it last (assuming you don't finish all of it immediately)?

  • hello I love your videos, where did you get the cultures online.please tell me the site i live in new york city.Thank you

  • Thank you Mam for the nice video, we are in Syria making the yogurt at home from the fresh cow milk in the same way you are doing it... Thanks again i really love the Indian food

  • I had no idea it was so easy to make.Thank you for sharing your receipt..:)

  • can you put like strawberries in it?
