why the hell did i come here if i knewt this song was gonna make me sad.....when the day come when my parents and friends leave this earth i pray to GOD that i dont ever come across...cus i just might cry untill theres nothin left to give.....
well, i know it would be a lot easier and faster to use e-mail and texts. but in some ways, letter has more value. it's hand-written and definitely needs more time to reach its destination. But that's what makes letter more special. Things tend to lose their value when they're too easy to get or find.
@VagrantWatcher213 Same here... It ruined the masteriece given to us by the 2 previous chapters... It's still great though... just it could be better. Makes you wonder why the hell was poor Kanae's chapter for... Kanae and Takaki will forever be together in my imagination ^.^!
I loved the music video of the ending though. It provided a very nice closure to the first and second chapters, and let us understand Akari's and Takaki's relationship more, and how they're connected, and the overwhelming emotions that Takaki feels. The scenes where Takaki always spots Akari at the corner of his eye is so sad, and is a wonderful depiction of how people feel when they think of someone a lot.
Geez I love this. Those perfect images from the movie, the heartfelt lyrics, the melodic and hypnotic guitar that flows after each verse, and the acoustic outro. Wow.
This is why i like the internet; i guy can say what he truly feels without worrying about how ppl will view him. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever made. Speaks volumes to just about everyone on the planet. The movie was a masterpiece. You could stop the film anywhere and you'd see a perfect picture. 5 stars.
after seeing the whole anime i was sad for an entire weekend. after the ending i couldnt take it i looked everywhere on yourtube for the happy ending but came to realize that the flashbacks were the ending of it. very sad emotional and one of the best anime ive seen.

If you know a little japanese, you can tell that near the end of the video, around 4:34, you can see one of the characters writing 大丈夫 (daijoubu), which means something along the lines of being OK or being alright (Like for example, you can ask someone if they're okay by asking "Daijoubu?" and they can say yes using the same word. "Daijoubu.") In the context of this song and this movie, it's one of the most heartbreaking flashes of something I've seen in a film.
oh damn! this guy is like a reflection inside of me...first love, loving someone for years even as those years you've didn't meet each other. and now the one you love already has serious relatiosnship. oh my...i cried over and over, as my fingers keep me click 'reply' again and again. doh!
Makoto Shinkai captures everything that I have been going through. Even in the age of internet, cellphone, I still cannot have the same speed as the all the important people in my life. Everybody moves at different speed, and direction. All we have is the brief moment by chance. Once it crossed, we might not even meet again. First love, crush, best friend, college life, struggle with family stuff. Everything .......
This movie was truly one of the saddest movies ever created. It totally destroyed the inside of me, and left me depressed. I feel sorry for that guy though. If i was him, i would die from all that suffering that he went through.
Anyways, i'll make sure to remember this film for the rest of my life...
@elflegolas2622 Now I get it, thanks for explaining :) I haven't had a chance to watch the entire movie so I didn't understand what you meant by 'pathetic'.
Watching this movie always makes me sad, but it also gives me the feeling to do something, like right now, that I should'nt wait forever, because before I know it, it would be too late already.
@TheLubuKing The song is written by a legendary Jap Folk singer about his GF who died in an earthquake. It has a lot of meaning behind it. That tied with the story compliments each other.
This is so F..... Sad... one thing hits me. couldn't they just show up in each other's house... Dont tell me they dont know where their lover's parent's live.
@Diguize When they where young they lived to far away from eachother...and as time went by they drifted even further an further apart. By the time they had grown up to much time had already past. Even though this is a EFFING sad movie, it's one of my absolute favourites. I remember trying to keep my cool through the entire movie but by the end I was just crying rivers. But I guess that's what makes this such a great film.
wish facebook was invented in their time ^^ according to wikipedia the era was set during cellphones & social media are not yet popular and advance so its not their fault that they did become a couple loL!
@Lexman00 Dude, Cherry Blossom was set in the Early Eighties, Cosmonaut in the Early Ninties, and by 5cm Per Second, it was already 2008. It is very possible that Akari had already forgotten about Takaki by then, as she only remembers him when she finds her letter to him in 5 Centimeter. Also, The top Social network in Japan is Not Facebook, it's Mixi.jp

@grubTuber there are books and reviews.. i felt the same way you did.. i thought i knew everything and was guessing on how the movies would end. felt very confident in myself... but the reality of life hit me hard....
@grubTuber , if wanted know more, just know this name - Makoto Shinkai. And watch His Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko (She and Her Cat), Tooi Sekai (Other Worlds), Neko no Shuukai and Egao. It`s his short stories, 5-25 minutes.
The story illustrated a reflection of reality. For some people it is easier to let go of their first love, others still holds on to the burden of lost love. The characters really represented difference between personalities. Akari understand and moved on, but those sweet memories will always remain. For Takaki drove in regrets because he lost the letter and he didn't take action to show his feelings again. I think we all are in someway similar to these characters like how we made our decisions.
Sigh, I don't know if I'll just repeat something somebody said... This is the first time I've cried at a movie... I usually don't like romance at all. But this is something else, I just can't find the right words to describe it, one thing I know... This is so realistic it makes you cry, how can somebody not like it?!
@Swarabi Were the same ..... I don't really like romance stories but this is a different case.... this anime is so touching , sad , and depressing....
How can you possibly dislike this?! Jeez. This movie is in my opinion one of if not the greatest animated film to ever be created. I don't think I've ever had any movie strike such an emotional chord with me. Makoto Shinkai is a genius. This movie is just beautiful in every aspect.
It is just me or this video has one original scene at the end? In the movie when the trains are passing we have the adult Takaki waiting on one end. But in this video his younger version is the one waiting, and when the trains are gone, she is also there waiting for him.
I love this movie but it pains me when they let something so beautiful die. That might have been the point but cynicism shouldn't be what dictates our lives. People should fight for what they had. This might be realistic but there are stories of real love lasting through time and distance because they have tried.
@fix3p I think that we're not teenagers makes it more poignant. After all by this time we've built up a substantial amount of regrets. I feel like I'll appreciate this even more as I get older.
@fix3p Same here. It's funny how I would see a guy who behaves this way and think "man that guys cool and he's got no worries". Now I wish I could be a little more emotional. I mean, I'm not exactly a stump who can't feel anything but I know I can't fall into a beautiful relationship as easily as I used to. Ah well.
@capostatus64 Yeah falling in love like a crazy may bring so much pain and sufferings cause nothing lasts forever. Its sad but the older u get the more clear-headed and rational u become
It's so sad because Masayoshi Yamazaki lost his girlfriend in an earthquake in Japan. You can feel the longing he has for her in this song and in another named Passage.
@thecowa29 not the recent earthquake, the Kobe earthquake in '95. However, I have to write fix3p back because I may have typed that a little too soon. I lived in Japan for a year and found this song and the other called Passage by him and really liked it. My Jap GF at the time told me the story and a lot of my middle aged students confirmed it so I assumed it to be true. fix3p asked me to prove it via link and I found quite a few, but all of them were blogs claiming Yamazaki said...
@thecowa29 what he said at a concert etc. The people who do not believe the rumor claim that Yamazaki wrote the song in '93 or '94, thus it would be impossible that he wrote it for a GF who died in '95. I don't think the real issue is when he wrote it but whether or not he really had a GF who died in the quake. That is very hard to prove as Yamazaki is very closed off in regards of his personal life. There were rumors he got married in April 2010 but even that information can't be proven.
one of my favorite anime directors of all time.. this was a masterpiece that makes me cry everytime i watch it.. one of the most stunning and breathtaking animes i have ever watched
The anime is beautiful..I haven't watched the entire thing but from what I've read here it ends sadly. Gbad1234 wrote something like you should live your life pretending to be happy even though you may miss the one you love. It kinda hit home for some reason...it really did
@YourTheBlame While English is not the best language for love songs, Japanese aint better. While this song is beautiful and i love it, it still has that rough samurai character to it.
why the hell did i come here if i knewt this song was gonna make me sad.....when the day come when my parents and friends leave this earth i pray to GOD that i dont ever come across...cus i just might cry untill theres nothin left to give.....

Sigh, I don't know if I'll just repeat something somebody said... This is the first time I've cried at a movie... I usually don't like romance at all. But this is something else, I just can't find the right words to describe it, one thing I know... This is so realistic it makes you cry, how can somebody not like it?!
Swarabi 11 months ago 3
@Swarabi Were the same ..... I don't really like romance stories but this is a different case.... this anime is so touching , sad , and depressing....
6000record 11 months ago
How can you possibly dislike this?! Jeez. This movie is in my opinion one of if not the greatest animated film to ever be created. I don't think I've ever had any movie strike such an emotional chord with me. Makoto Shinkai is a genius. This movie is just beautiful in every aspect.
Whaleshawksareawesum 1 year ago 5
It is just me or this video has one original scene at the end? In the movie when the trains are passing we have the adult Takaki waiting on one end. But in this video his younger version is the one waiting, and when the trains are gone, she is also there waiting for him.

I love this movie but it pains me when they let something so beautiful die. That might have been the point but cynicism shouldn't be what dictates our lives. People should fight for what they had. This might be realistic but there are stories of real love lasting through time and distance because they have tried.

wtf? i'm 23 and i cried like a little girl..
why is this so fuckin sad? .. TT
fix3p 1 year ago 113
@fix3p I think that we're not teenagers makes it more poignant. After all by this time we've built up a substantial amount of regrets. I feel like I'll appreciate this even more as I get older.
capostatus64 11 months ago
@capostatus64 yeah
and u just recognize how realistic this story is
do u know whats interesting? i started to behave like Tono, i mean so laid-back
fix3p 11 months ago
@fix3p Same here. It's funny how I would see a guy who behaves this way and think "man that guys cool and he's got no worries". Now I wish I could be a little more emotional. I mean, I'm not exactly a stump who can't feel anything but I know I can't fall into a beautiful relationship as easily as I used to. Ah well.
capostatus64 11 months ago
@capostatus64 Yeah falling in love like a crazy may bring so much pain and sufferings cause nothing lasts forever. Its sad but the older u get the more clear-headed and rational u become
fix3p 11 months ago 2
@fix3p
It's so sad because Masayoshi Yamazaki lost his girlfriend in an earthquake in Japan. You can feel the longing he has for her in this song and in another named Passage.

solabanivla 10 months ago

so it wouldn't be difficult
fix3p 10 months ago
@solabanivla u mean he lost his girlfriend from the current japan earthquake? just like 1 week ago? where'd did u hear this news?
thecowa29 10 months ago
@thecowa29 not the recent earthquake, the Kobe earthquake in '95. However, I have to write fix3p back because I may have typed that a little too soon. I lived in Japan for a year and found this song and the other called Passage by him and really liked it. My Jap GF at the time told me the story and a lot of my middle aged students confirmed it so I assumed it to be true. fix3p asked me to prove it via link and I found quite a few, but all of them were blogs claiming Yamazaki said...
solabanivla 10 months ago
@thecowa29 what he said at a concert etc. The people who do not believe the rumor claim that Yamazaki wrote the song in '93 or '94, thus it would be impossible that he wrote it for a GF who died in '95. I don't think the real issue is when he wrote it but whether or not he really had a GF who died in the quake. That is very hard to prove as Yamazaki is very closed off in regards of his personal life. There were rumors he got married in April 2010 but even that information can't be proven.

The anime is beautiful..I haven't watched the entire thing but from what I've read here it ends sadly. Gbad1234 wrote something like you should live your life pretending to be happy even though you may miss the one you love. It kinda hit home for some reason...it really did

The Japanese language is such a beautiful language.
Compare an English To a Japanese love song like this one, English is just a Comedy.
YourTheBlame 1 year ago
@YourTheBlame While English is not the best language for love songs, Japanese aint better. While this song is beautiful and i love it, it still has that rough samurai character to it.
