@kyorgadorgen Sorry for the delayed response, I hardly check messages on this account. If you can make a noise on a clarinet or saxophone, you can probably get a sound from this. It's the QUALITY of sound that will need lots of practice!
the 3 & 3 pattern sounds like your basic do-de-me kinda thing. I'm doing an independent research project about exotic instruments, and I'd like to know what sort of scale these have. For this particular one you have in this video, what are the notes? From all closed to all open.
Thanks a lot for this. I just got my Duduk today and found this very useful. I agree with not wetting the reed too much. From everything I have read it says its a bad idea. Although I would say it does sound similar to a saxophone, at least when Im playing it, but Im hardly any good Ive had it a couple of hours and have only just got a sound from it :-)
@GarikAxper Really? Do you play saxophone, or duduk? Personally, I do not think it sounds like a saxophone at all. As far as wetting the reed ALOT for a smooth sound: acording to everything I've read about technique on the instrument, having the reed too wet is actually a bad thing.
Getting a better sound would certainly come with practice, which I honestly have not dedicated time to do on this instrument.
Good video... I'm planning to make a duduk with a polypropylene pipe. If I'm getting to do I'm posting a video (ah, I've never played or seen a real duduk :-P).
Wow, thank you! I suppose that on the higher pitched duduk, the four-finger system would be easier to do. It does look very difficult, and I would think that after playing clarinet, an 8 finger scale would be hard to get used to. I take it there's no "2nd register".
I'm honestly not sure how much smaller the higher pitched duduks are, but I would assume the tone holes atre a little closer together, so yeah... they may be a little easier to play than this G.
The 8 finger pattern is a bit of a challenge... the other thing I have to work on is the straight, bagpipe chanter-like finger position.
No second register... not that I want to find, anyways. ;)
I WANT ONE. How hard is it to make noise with that?
