@FSGZombie Check out the 16 minute plus version I uploaded. Split into two sections for youtube. They really brought the funk. You guys did a nice job but you might be amazed at how good high school kids can swing this piece.

Noiiiice. We've been practicing this song. Might do it for festival. I'm usually a clarinet player, but i switched to bari sax for jazz band, and i freaking love it. this song is my favorite out of all the ones we're doing. since i'm a new player i don't do any improvising really :)

trumpet - tuning? or notes that don't fit the chords? although the transition between the trumpet and alto sax solo was freaking tight!

alto sax - nice opener. just the right amount of repetition. something along the lines of the bari sax solo earlier, but nice. like the scale runs.

alto sax 2 - too much tongue in the beginning. more control so you don't squeek. although i like the altissimo the guy put in there :]

trumpet - SMOKING opener! this guy sets up the standard!

bari sax solo - i like how its a rhythmic type of solo, but it would be better if it was a bit more...jazzy y'know? like smoother.

trombone solo - t'was an alright solo. could've matched with the chords more. & more control over his/her sound. more air?

minuses: yup, the bone solo wasn't too great, and that one sax kept beginning his solos by playing the same note over and over...just a little boring

pluses: didn'really matter to me if it was too fast, i thought it was great, plus having the director solo was pretty cool

People are saying this was too fast, and while I agree, I can't help but laugh.

My school's jazz ensemble did this last spring and the recordings I made and mastered are so much faster than even this.

I think that this rendition finds the healthy balance of speed though.

It's not WAY too fast. It's about the right tempo. Maybe even a bit on the slow side!

No offense or anything, but this is supposed to be a lot slower. I don't know what versions you listened to but if you listen to original version with Herbie Hancock, its a lot slower

Hey trumpet solo. 1st off good job. just some pointers. If you wan't to be a little post modern and do some Brecker type stuff try some tri tones (in this case you're F#) and C# maj. and flatted 7th scale works like a charm. It's fairly simple and makes you look like a pimp. I mean who doesn't like bebop for realz.

Yes. All attend Fort Zumwalt North Highschool in Ofallon Mo. The band includes 9th,10th, 11th and 12th grade students who tryout for the jazz band positions.
