Just because he speaks Chinese doesn't mean he has an accent. Canadians often speak at least 3 languages. English, French(fluent, not crappy American rudimentary spanish or something of like) and some native languages. If they're pro, they have no outstanding accents in either language, but perfect pronunciation.

Since people are curious bout Henry, I'll just provide more info.

As mentioned, he's a Canadian-born Chinese. Born in Toronto, to be more specific. His first language is English. His Chinese standard is not perfect but good enough to make conversation. He also has a meek knowledge of the Cantonese dialect. He learned French in Canada & picked up Korean once he entered SM in 2006 but I'm uncertain of how fluent he is.

His area of expertise in dancing in popping.

The cute dude speaking is Henry. He grew up in Canada & is a Canadian-born Chinese. Chinese cause his dad's from HongKong & his mum's from Taiwan. He's a gifted dancer & violinist & is currently in Super Junior M (Mandarin sub-group).

& Since they say they accept all races, just take their word for it (though I doubt they'll accept those with non-Asian descent :/)

Sure, it doesn't matter what race you are as long as you are Asian, preferably Japanese, Chinese, Korean or some other Eastern-Asian. This is actually on the SM web page. But it makes sense. There's a reason why you don't see any big Asian pop stars from America. The same goes for Caucasians in Asia.

@arjanganime2 That's because those two are individual artists, most singers/idols in Korea are in large groups so the pay is split. You also have to pay the company that trained you for about three years which is why the initial pay would be pretty low.

As far as I know- they meant nationality, but not ethnicity. SM Entertainment doesn't hesitate to find other Asian singers so they can expand their market in the Chinese and Japanese areas as well as their own country. However, it'd be very difficult to market someone who isn't Asian and has little or no experience speaking an Asian language. Let's say for example, you were Black. Not to sound racist, but an image like that wouldn't sell over in Asia as opposed to in the US.

All of them belong in groups in Korea that have become really sucessful, and they're not even korean. I'm pretty sure as long as you have talent, you don't need to be korean to debut in Korea.

That's true, SM does not look for talent, but more on looks. But what people misses the most is that SM also looks for potential. Haven't you noticed that some of our favorite SM artists auditioned with mediocre dance moves and vocals? That's because SM looks for people with BIG dreams. They believe that they can train you to be on-par with more talented people. SM is like a stepping stone for those people who has dreams of making it big but doesn't have much skills.

Well if you're auditioning in the US or Canada, i think by law they're required to allow you to audition. You can't stop people at the door based on race.

But actually having a real shot at getting in is a different story. :\

It is an East Asian market, so they are going to be looking for East Asians.

but...at the same time you'll never know unless you try.
