  • I'm going to learn this tune on my 1921 Vega Fairbanks Whyte Laydie banjo because you have inspired me to learn it from your wonderful playing on your Harp!!! Thank You for your post!

  • Is this considered a celtic harp?

  • @sobefobik I'd like to think so. It's made by Camac Harps in France and is sold as a Celtic harp.

  • @sobefobik

It is if you play Celtic music on it.

It's a modern Celtic harp and not a bardic harp.

  • @sobefobik

So far as I can tell, it is Camac's Hermine lever harp, though it might be the Mélusine. See their website.

    Lg,

    Anke.

  • You are so inspiring!! I learned this song on the violin, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as your version, and your little harmonies and things! I look foreward to hearing more of your playing.

  • What a beautiful melody! Bravo!

  • Klasse! Hört sich super an. Da gehört sicher eine Menge Übung zu... ?

I just love the sensiblility you conveyed to this old folk favourite.

I'm not used to irritating people with asking for scores, but would you be kind as to also send me the sheet? I'm dying to give my own rendition of this great tune. :)

    Best wishes, keep harping!

  • Hi charlaine72, thank you so much for your nice comment. Just give me your adress and I'll send you an email with the song. No problem there!

  • Do you know where I can find the sheet music for this song? I've been wanting to play it forever! You play it very well :)

  • Just write me your emailadress in a private message and I'll send you the sheet music.

  • Really good attempt at this tricky piece!

  • I love it :-)

  • Dankeschön!!! :-)

  • This is great, the world needs more harp players, I think they're dying out. Keep at it.

  • I'm trying, but I haven't got much time lately... :-(

  • I absolutely love your base lines!! They really compliment the melody well with out taking away from it!! Bravo! I have always wanted to play the harp...maybe some day. Thanks so much for sharing your talent!

  • Thanks a lot too. I won't take the lauerels for the base line, for I got it from my teacher who got the song out of a book. Just go for it, harp is a wonderful instrument!

  • oh my gosh, that's beautiful! amazing job!

  • Thanks! Hopefully I'll be able to post more videos soon, perhaps together with Nathalie, the Singer in the Keogh's Green videos.

  • nice job Simaril11! Inspired me to learn this tune on harp. I will have to post mine sometime but your arrangement is much more interesting. =)

  • thanks a lot! I'm looking forward to seeing your video! (And between you and me, and now the rest of Youtube^^: this isn't exactely MY arrangement, I have it out of a songbook.)

  • Wonderful! Would it be possible to send me a copy too? Thanks!

  • LOL!!! I thought you we're calling yourself a musical priest XD

I was like, this guy is too hot to be a priest XD

    joking

    Good playing though

  • Haha! Thanks a lot^^

  • hey. thats sounds beautiful. Where do you buy your books?? and what are they called?

  • I'm sorry, I can't tell you out of which book that song is orignally. It's just a copy my teacher gave to me two years ago. I can send you a copy, if you like. Just send me your e-mailaddress.

  • This is really beautiful and really nicely played....makes we want to go and buy a small harp - lol. Where do I start? :)

  • This is one of my favourite reels. I'm also a Celtic harpist and i wanted to play this . . . usually it's faster on fiddle or flute but this is a great tempo for the harp. You've given me inspiration :)

  • Oh, I'm sorry, I have accidently deleted a comment again! It was from "madwiesemoore" and he wrote: "That was real nice. You are so lucky to get by with only the one big mistake at the end usually I end up with about four giant ones. Good work! Regards from US"

My answear: Thank you very much! I can't play it so good anymore, but I have to learn it again, because I have to play it on a concert on sunday next week!

  • Thank you for this excellent video ! I hope

to learn this tune on my harp. Now, if I study your hands, I just might be able to learn it.

  • This is awesome! Actually it's really good in this slower version. Be proud of yourself, you play beautifully!

    Best regards from Hungary!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Played with confidence and steady rhythm, a pleasant performance of the tune. Thanks for sharing

  • hey, this is agreat work, it really a good idea to post your songs

    i´ve subscribed you

    it is truly celtic music!

  • thank you very much, but I don't think that I'm THAT good, I'm just a harp-player among so many others!

  • perhaps you could not be the BEST, but the musics you choose to play are awesome. i really love the celtic style, and most of the musics you play, if not all, are the elder celtic style that i have heard at once, the "roots" of celtic, did you mean?

i am always searching for this kind of "root", and by now, yours musics are the most far i could went to.

sorry my not that good english, i hope you could understand :)

  • Thanks for the Video sue richerds plays it

  • Great playing, honestly I never thought a German lad could make this old Irish heart happy. I loved the relaxed feel to the song, it had my foot a movin'. Actually all these song on the harp are great

  • Thank you so much, comments like yours make me feel that it was worth uploading my videos. I admire Irish musicians and hearing that an Irish likes me playing Irish songs is great! It makes me think I got some of the spirit I admire so much in this kind of music.

  • It's sounds a bit like finntroll. But not as growl. Just that intro bit really. umr LOVE XXx

  • very very nice, someday i hope to learn the harp!

  • i learned the tune off this video! thanks again for posting!!:D:D

  • What do you mean with the second sentence? You can write in English ;-)

  • haha...okay. I guess my attempt at german failed miserably. I was wondering what made you take up the harp, and how you got interested in Irish music.

  • Yes, that is a fine tune well played! Had my foot tapping.

  • this is great! Ive always wanted to learn this tune but never gotten around to it!! i think i will make time after my exams to learn it as this video has reminded me how much i love the tune!! Thanks!also i think u look fine the way you are playing!its silly doing something other than natural when playing!!

  • It would be way better if you could express something with your face, I think. But your music is beautiful.

  • what should i do then? i could smile, but it would be kind of frozen, because i still have to concentrate too much on my fingers. and a frozen smile is worse than the face i show on the video, i think.

  • I'm sorry for my very late answer but just let you go. Maybe for now you have to concentrate because you don't know the music as well as you could. Or maybe just follow the rhythm with your head and trunk.

  • great playing! your music is soooo peaceful and joyful at the same time! thanx!

  • thank you so much, i'm always happy that people like the songs i play.

  • damn, with skills like that, you must get all the chicks don't you. lol

  • I don't play harp to get girls, you know...but thanks all the same -.-

  • its just my way of saying great playing

  • lol, i thought so, never mind my answear^^

  • hey hört sich richtig gut an =) schöne Melodie.

    Mach weiter so!

  • wow.

  • absoluter hammer !

  • schade, dass ich nicht daneben saß..

  • *lol* soso, du wärst also gern daneben gesessen? um WAS genau davon zu haben? :-D

  • Nice :D A little group of musicians and me are playing this wonderful song atm, in a kindof reggae version, with a touch of funk. imagine that =)

  • hard to imagine, but it sounds interesting, what about recording it, so that i can see it?

  • Bravo!

  • Hi Martin,

Of your current set of videos on youtube, this would be my favourite. Some very nice playing! I just want more inflections of sound , dynamics and maybe some ornaments? (sorry the harp teacher in me coming out) Even so very enjoyable to listen to!

    Robin

  • Thanks, Robin. You're right, there is still much to do, concidering my palying-technique!^^ I'm working on it!

  • I don't think is your playing technique, because your technique is very good! :-) ... its more some notes are more important than others, some phrases louder, others quieter.

Have fun and experiment with different ideas!

    Best of luck!

  • nice! ...wish i could afford a harp

  • Thank you very much! I hope that you will be able one day, harp is a great instrument! Best wishes, Martin.
