when the nuclear fallout came from the vapourization of 2 islands, the fallout and ash fell like snow. the children were excited cuz they saw pix of snow before and began to play and make angels in the nuclear fallout. other big disasters were chyrnobyl in the ukraine when a nuclear power plant melted down. or union carbide in india which was a toxic gas leak, these disasters made alot of generations sick and killed many more all of which happened long ago and are still apparent problems today!

Wow...I just came across this video due to surfing on Google Earth. I'm so sorry to hear that people suffered unnecessarily on behalf of my country. You can't say that its all Americans fault though,because those that run the country are small in number in comparison to the citizens that live here. I didn't even know about this until a few seconds ago myself.

I'm American and I hate the stupidity that our country does without caring for others. No wonder everyone hates us...Didn't the U.S. realize that the radiation wouldn't just effect the people on the islands but the radiation was going into the ocean where all the fish that we eat live.

In regards to jnnfrgbly's comment please understand that my people are speaking because this is a HUGE issue. Even today, in 2009, we still can't go back to live on bikini island because the water surrounding it is still contaminated and the food as well. It may be a small islands but it's still our home. Also the other reason why compensation is such a big deal is because we still have elders and young that have medical problems. Please look at this from our point of view before you judge.

so if they've personally gotten some compensation so therefore they should shut up about it? I don't think they've ever signed away their right to say something. The truth is we destroyed their homeland.

I'm willing to concede that people in the 1950's were still living in a WWII type mentality, but that doesn't excuse our wanton destruction of another country's territory.
